    Olivier... as a math professor I wonder how proud your geometry teachers must and should be.

      @Carlos Magno Martins Cosme --
      As an artist who can come up with some pretty wild spacial drawings, I have to tell you I stunk at geometry. I just could not memorize all those bleepin' theorems. (I now know I have ADHD.) In art I can just do, I don't have to explain or 'prove' my work. I did better in algebra, lol...abstract and I go way back.
      I really hope it's sooner then later when our nationwide education system learns how to fit the teachings to the child instead of forcing all children to learn by one teaching method. It flat out doesn't work. AND I hope that all children are taught to their strengths.
      I was teaching art to my 5th grade class. (My teacher loved it.) I have been a creator all my life. Trying to memorize endless math facts was literally torture to me. It wasn't because I wasn't trying, & it certainly wasn't because I was stupid.
      It was because I think differently.

      @@RevdUp.Art.Fotografer
      Memorisation doesn’t always work for ADHD brains (unless it’s related to our Special Interests); we often need to understand what’s actually going on in order to remember. Rote learning might “work” for a lot of people, but it rarely does for us.

    • @RevdUp.Art.Fotografer
      @RevdUp.Art.Fotografer 2 года назад +1

      @@ragnkja -- With ADHD I am able to 'hyperfocus' for a certain amount of time. It almost exclusively works with art, either doing my own or looking at other's. However. that can't continue for very long.
      My own physical, mental, emotional, & Spiritual health requires me to have breaks from that. With the internet...oy... I can head down the first rabbit hole then another & another, & if I'm not mindful - on some level - I'm down about 3-4 hours of getting all kinds of ideas for possible art projects. Some notes get taken, some just don't, but all of the ideas are in a greymatter storage area fermenting, perhaps with Koji, Saki, Steamed Barley, & a bit of Sugar.
      Trust me when I tell you there are ZERO stacks of dates, numbers, formulas (recipe exceptions), theorems, stats, etc... hanging out just waiting for shits & giggles. ZERO.
      The other problem I have is double vision PLUS one eye that has a mind of it's own. OY!!! I had a difficult reading and had to read passages several times to actually know what it said. My teachers thought I had 'issues' of comprehension. They didn't bother to notice my bifocals & trifocals when I was in grade school. 😮 And of course, they didn't know anything about ADHD. My 'HD' manifested differently than others. It still does. Whether it's my toes and/or fingers are almost always moving. My whole body can sway. Plus I'm NEVER doing just one thing, except when I'm Meditating. (Thank God for Meditation.)
      Right now I'm writing this and watching TV about gardening (LOVE gardening), planning what to make for dinner, swaying, & scrunching my toes. So nothing much. LOL...

      @ragnkja 2 года назад +1

      @@RevdUp.Art.Fotografer
      Hyperfocus is indeed an uncontrollable beast, and one that tends to neglect our physical needs. I’m sure you, like me, have forgotten to eat and sleep because you were hyperfocusing. And yeah, “stacks of dates” (classic examples of rote memorisation) aren’t exactly our thing, because our brains like stories and connections, not individual facts. Neurotypical brains also prefer that, but it’s more obvious with us.

    A beautiful piece! Two observations on technique: 1. Turn your final vase form while it is still between centers. By turning the form in the chuck you run the risk of putting your gouge into the chuck jaws and risking damage to the gouge, the chuck, the piece, and of course, yourself. Much less dangerous if it’s between centers first. 2. The lathe was turning much too fast when you inserted the Forstner bit which was evident by the amount of smoke that was produced. These bits are designed for use in slower turning pillar drills and will dull very quickly if forced in at faster speeds. Happy turning!

    Plus que votre art, j'apprécie que vous portiez un équipement de sécurité, comme une visière, des gants, et que vous utilisiez un bâton poussoir avec la scie. Très peu de personnes dans ces vidéos sur le travail du bois utilisent des équipements de sécurité.
