If you do ever see that again with any sheep or lamb please get hold of the farmer, he would take it out the field and they would hand feed it and call for a vet. Things can change within hours so you should never assume the farmer is allowing it to die. I would suggest asking for the farmers numbers in the fields you walk in and keeping it saved on your phone. Farmers rely on walkers to be eyes and ears when they are tending to other animals, they work 14/16 hour days and can’t be on hand 24-7

The lamb story was 🐑 heartbreaking and such a tricky situation also imagining that your surrounding fields look so VAST and big and probably not that easy to find/figure out the farmer. Tricky situation and understood where u came up with that choice too. Must have been difficult. I do understand. Knowing what had happened, the best thing you can do to at least make something of that situation is to eventually find out the surrounding farmers contact info ; just incase for the future. I’m so glad you shared that though which was an incident that definitely had shaken you up.
Also enjoyed your content of you at home in and out the garden and you doing your everyday thing. The tulips in that clay vase was beautiful! Please do not apologize about the vlog! Enjoyed it and always remember , you always just be you! ❤ sending love from a city girl.

I watched this happen in the field next to me, jumped the fence, wrapped the lamb in a blanket and my partner went to the surrounding farms to find the farmer. He was so happy with what we had done. This happens loads and like in this case, he had 2 other lambs in the same situation and he had a barn with heat lamps etc and foster sheep waiting to help out. Go back and find that lamb and send Ally out to find the farmer. There’s no need for that lamb to die. I double checked with my daughters 2 friends who are both vets specialising in farms animals and they said no farmer just leaves a lamb to die. I understand you being unsure, but sheep aren’t wild animals, you’re not interfering in nature when it’s farm animals in need of help and the farmer just hasn’t been around to notice yet. X

I’m no farmer or expert but I don’t think many farmers would just let it happen! Try and find the farmer! They hand rear ‘pet’ lambs or they adopt lambs onto other ‘better’ mothers! Farmers care for their lambs. I would get the number of the farmer from your local fields.

So crazy you say that about the lamb! One of the ladies brought their pet lamb to work and the exact same thing happened. The mum rejected the lamb so this lady hand reared the lamb. And the lamb thinks she’s a cat as they also have a rag doll and they sleep together and the lamb even uses the litter box and scratches by her food like cats do to hide the scent! So cute and mad 😅,

With all due respect: to cry about a lamb (baby) while you knowingly eat it and wear its skin is absurd. Its fine to cosplay as a country bumpkin, its another to eat certain foods just because they fit that role and appear 'refined'- its all artificial and has real-life consequences- psychological and physical suffering we couldn't even imagine,. We sugarcoat it with lies and defence mechanisms but the truth is ugly, so either you contribute to it and stay quiet or you don't contribute and you take action against systematic cruelty: a choice based on personal pleasure and normalised habit, or compassion.

Awe, Lydia... one of the most profoundly important characteristics about us, is our ability to express our compassion, concern and love of others; humans, dogs, cats, lambs and gardens - without losing the primary emotion. ;-) It's easy to let compassion slide into grief, and then into anger. And to *stay* with the compassion while sorrow rises is such a mark of maturity and growth. Your concern for the lamb is poignant - and honestly, it tells us how in touch you are with your own sensibilities... how hard the work is to stay in touch with those emotions. Well done... ;-) (PS, there's nothing harder to witness than a vulnerable soul in need ... if you've been there, you know... I know.)

Poor you, it is awful to see and nature is cruel but the comment below is correct the farmer would go pick up the lamb and either pet it or give it a new mum that may have lost her lamb or lambs. It's a difficult and sometimes frustrating time of year for us farmers but it is mostly rewarding towards the end seeing all the fine lambs produced thriving. Please keep eating good quality meat, livestock farming depends on people buying their produce and our beautiful countryside would look a whole lot different without the farm animals grazing etc. It is a fine balance of separation between the love of animals and the consumption of them. They wouldn't be there to see without that chain. I also hate sad situations sometimes when dealing with animals and sometimes the worst cruelty comes from their own the same as our own race. Hugs all the same, your a kind sole. xx

Horrible situation with the lamb. Think most people right to say contact the farmer. Ask at the pub next time you in. Very useful to give the number of the ewe and lambs they would be able to go straight to it, spot on that. Feeding a struggling lamb yourself would be difficult .. backstory: lambs are not warmed by their skin or wool. As ruminants they ferment their food to generate warmth, like a little internal heater. So a weak lamb is likely hypothermic, even in reasonable weather. Before you feed them they need to be warmed up, hence the hoary old putting them in the aga .. but what you would feed them is the issue. Within 24 hours of being born they need colostrum .. but if they’ve been numbered it implies they are older than that .. otherwise you would need to buy a sack of lamb milk and feed them via teat and bottle - or with a lamb that can’t suck by stomach tube - both of which are too much to ask of of passers-by . My ultimate advice would be to get to know your local farmers, even indirectly. If you feel you have to intervene, wrap them in a blanket before taking them back. In the very unlikely event the farmer not bothered then raw cows milk is the best food for them . We don’t let nature takes its course in the uk, we leave that to NZ. Lol. Sorry, pizled not untypically for this time of night. We’ll make farmers of you both yet ! 😀👍💪

I appreciate your compassion for the lamb, that was certainly hard to hear and sad to imagine. However you remain silent on the ongoing genoicde of real humans, thousands and thousands of them. I wish you would extend your compassion to those suffering under extreme, vile conditions. 🍉🍉🍉

I don’t feel you seem not connected at all, I was actually thinking before your interview around Hermes bags you seemed very confident calm and considered, it’s sometimes easy to become obsessed with things, and over analysis, but go easy on yourself we’re all human trying to figure out the balance 😅☺️

Contrary to popular belief, one can love animals, be a compassionate person, and eat meat. Those are not mutually exclusive of each other. Don’t beat yourself up over that or think that eating meat says something negative about your character. Life is precious. Respect the meat you eat by not wasting a morsel of it for that also is life. You are a gentle soul and that is obvious.

The farmer take that lamb…..take the skin off a lamb that has died and cover the lamb in it and try to get the mother that has lost the dead lamb to take the neglected lamb as its own cause it smells its own lamb on it. Farmers don’t want to lose lambs.

    Hi Lydia,
I like many of the others whom have commented on this vlog regarding the lamb have all given our opinions and advice as what you should have done and what we recommend you do in the future. However I am well aware that you love to learn and soak up information like a sponge. So I know you will learn so much from this vlog as will many others whom may not know about this topic.
I have come across situations which I'm sure I didn't make the best choices but have learnt and reflected later. None of us are perfect and will not always make the choices others might expect of us and yet most people would never know as most folks are not on public platforms. So don't be too hard on yourself with this vlog and all the replies like mine saying what you should have done.
    Kind regards.

Never leave a lamb in that situation ! Contact the farmer immediately. It doesn’t mean it’s ill. The farmer will bring it into the barn with other orphans/multiples or rejects and bottle feed and provide heat etc. This is really bad advice and with the size of your audience I’d hate for this to happen again. That poor lamb :(

    • @SophieJ-zm9mr
      @SophieJ-zm9mr 5 месяцев назад +3

And I’m sorry but this is super hypocritical. Whether you try and justify it I don’t understand how you can get so upset about this yet still eat meat. I’m not against people eating meat but you’ve got to accept where it comes from if eating meat is a choice you make. Those lambs will be taken away from their mum and killed but because you don’t see that part that’s ok?
Love your channel but this sort of thing makes me so angry.

Often times the lamb will come around if bottle fed, hopefully the farmer spotted it and cared to it
I grew up with sheep and sometimes it was due to the mum being under weight and unable to feed two so they look after the bigger one and abandon the smaller one. It is sad but just hope that the farmer is caring for it

Aww it is so sad Lydia but as others have said..farmers often have a few lambs they're hand feeding...a good farmer never just lets nature take its course because in some cases...unfortunately not all ewes are great mums and the babies are fine and not ill... and just need extra help. Lambing season often sees the farmers with boxes of little lambs in front of their heaters until well enough to go out again! ❤

@Koherents I grew up on the farm and I can honestly say I don’t know one farmer who would knowingly leave any of their young out in the field to die. After all every lamb or calf to be born is your livelihood, and you will do anything to keep them alive.

It’s always hard seeing nature doing its brutal thing but like so many others have said on here, often the farmer will step in and hand rear the rejected lambs…. I don’t think you seemed off in the vlog but I know what you mean about not feeling like yourself, sometimes when we let one thing slip others can follow and before you know it the good habits which help you feel happy and healthy in body and mind have gone landsliding away 😂but don’t get frustrated with yourself or cross with yourself, just finding that moment of awareness that it has happened and the impact it has had is super powerful and from there you can ease back in to the things that nourish your body, mind and soul ❤❤❤

Please never lift a lamb from a field. I'm from a farm and we're currently lambing. More often than not, the farmer is aware, and collecting the ewe and her sick lamb from the field is next on the never-ending to do list. Ewes can also lose patience for their lambs when they are under pressure, for example dog walkers in the same field and the ewe goes into flight mode. Contact the farmer and never interfere, this is someone's business during their busiest time of year. The farmer knows best for the lamb.
