  • Lenny Sly sensei of the rogue warriors training compound teaches us another aikido basic technique on yubi dori. Here sensei demonstrates how to apply yubi dori off of a yokomenuchi attack. Sly sensei once again shows us his outstanding teaching skills by breaking down the technique step by step, as well as generously showing us some variations on this great tenshin aikido technique.

    Always great stuff, Lenny, in regard to Ikkyo, I never used that leg sweep at the conclusion before, but I applied it and developed it, I love it dude, and so now me and my students are implementing that tactic into our technique, I still use Makoto Application initially but I did come across a particular student that did not want to take Ukemi all the way down, but when I swept that foot out from under him, he went down like a sack of potatoes! Thank you, just wanted to share that in gratitude to you and your teachings!

    Great video Lenny. I have only been doing Aikido for 2 months and your videos have really helped me. If I was over in the states I would love private tuition from yourself. Maybe one day or you could do a seminar here in the Uk 🇬🇧.

    Now that's funny, right there. :-) I love that you aren't buttoned-up and formally traditional, adding a bit of fun to shake it up. That's what makes videos memorable, above anything else. So many sensei I've watched are so afraid of 'breaking form', their projection is very 'vanilla' and uninspiring. Hard to find a sensei of your style on the other side of the Pacific!

    Actually, my foundation is aikikai and the yokomen you said is the way you do is actually the way we do too. I've seen the other way before but not among the aikikai folks of the USAF.

    Lenny Sly. Yesterday when I was doing Randori at the dojo, one of my partners came with a straight punch, and I tried to do a Tenshin IrimiNage. But it didnt worked. I tried to use all my strength to take his neck down with my hand, but he just didnt go down. He was resisting by leaning forward, and I can't take him down. What was wrong with my technique?

      @JunebugPresents 7 лет назад

      I know you didn't ask me but it would be better for whoever you ask if they could see what happened. But from your description, if uke was resisting and leaning forward then let him. Go with that. Whatever option you use, he would've most likely fell on his face. But, again, I would have to see. The ones who resist are the best. The tension they use to resist tells you as nage which way their force is going and all you have to do is change your game plan, adjust, and let him go the way he is going. You would find another technique out of that. And, yes, it all happens in a flash. But it takes years to learn how to, what I like to call, "find it".
