- How to do sankyo is the featured technique of this aikido lesson. Lenny sly sensei of the #roguewarriors training compound demonstrates his unique method of this popular aikido technique. sly sensei show us a completely different version of this sankyo by first showing us how to use the suriage deflection to avoid being punched. Then he shows us how to use atemi to our advantage to apply the sankyo wrist lock. After the applied sankyo he then show us how to turn the sankyo lock into a nagewaza. And finally he goes into a completely different application of a standing pin amoungst other pins that can be used. Lenny Sly aikido is becoming a house hold name with in the aikido community.

Great speech Lenny, you are a voice of clarity in Aikido that we need...maybe the old generation are not interested but the new generation needs to see there is another way. Jason.
I am really proud of what you have done to evolve traditional Aikido into something practical, and real time with today! Thank you Lenny! You have saved my life. Keep up the good work!
I do the best that I can , thank you
I love what your doing and I watch all of your videos and hope one day I find myself in your neck of the woods. I would join your school in a heartbeat. I train with your videos all the time and I've learned more about aikido from your videos than the few years I studied in the aikikai. This practical application of aikido is the real deal. I'm sure you heard it before, keep up the good work educating and bringing light to a relatively dark room.
That's why I like this guy so much! Real Aikido as meant to be!. Thanks Lenny!
Hi Lenny I've been watching your videos lately and I like your modern interperetation of Aikido very much. I'm sick of people saying Aikido doesn't work. Only bad Aikido doesn't work, good Aikido is very effective in street situations and for developing character. I come from a Tomiki background with plenty of competion/randori and I believe Tomiki was thinking there was a need to pressure test Aikido and a lot of traditionalists shyed away from this. I used to cross train in muai thai, arnis and vale tudo. The guys that cave in usually are the ones with the biggest mouths who never pressure test their "traditional" art. Oeshiba was an innovative martial artist for his time, I believe you are in your time. Keep up the good work. Best channel I've seen in ages and your honest perspective is refreshing along with the clear sound and very good camera work(thumbs up for the camera guy!). I wish you all good luck with your channel.
Thank you very much Lenny,
During the past ten years of my aikido journey, for 3 years i have been continuously repeatedly watching your brilliant videos to refresh and update my mindset during increasing experience, thanks very much again and wish you all team have a further success and be in health, greetings from Turkey🙏😊
Thank you so much we really appreciate it.
I appreciate the ranting and the technical teaching you give thank you
I'm applied your technique in my dojo, and now thanks to you, more people come, and the atmosphere is more alive, my deepest respect for you sensei sly 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻
Great pins and great points! Violence today is crazy and this form of Aikido is very much needed and is very effective. Modern day mainstream aikido only works in the dojo. Keep doing what you do! TAA, I'm on my way!
You are off the chain!!!! Lenny......I love It. You always keep it real, that's why I'm steady rollin with ya
Man I think your video are most helpful and deliver a great onsite of step by step guide. Keep up the great work. ✌
Lenny, you're the man. I totally love tenshin aikido and the way your teaching and showing your way of aikido. I trained in Asu aikido for 7 years. I woke up and opened my eyes. It was very boring and I was taught the same basic techniques over and over. But I had the honor of attending a few of Ikeda Sensei seminars at Oberlin college. I will continue to support your aikido and I back you 100% brother. keep it up and maybe some day I'll have the pleasure of training with you.
Lenny, you and your team are brilliant. Can't thank you enough. I'm with you 110%!
Nice new and refreshing approach to Sankyo. Our former teacher never showed me that! Your speech was a great and invaluable lesson in itself to all of us.
hello Road Warriors , I just started and Aikido November 2016 and I absolutely love it originally fell in love with Aikido 22 years ago but never actually to take any classes because it was too expensive. I just wanted to let you know that I try and share all your videos with my Aikido friends on Facebook. keep doing what you're doing I really think it's great. domo arigato.
Love the hand defections! Without the pain compliance techniques do not work, the same with atemi, thank you Sensei Sly and keep doing what you do best, Domo Agrigato.
Very well done! I have not seen Sankyo applied like that before. Coming from a Corrections background, I would often go from Sankyo to a Transport Wristlock, but that was about the extent of my transitions. I appreciate being shown more things to play with in this technique.
POWERFUL FRIGHTENING AIKIDO TECH. I LIKE HOW U ADDED THE FOUNDER OF AIKIDO IN THIS VIDEO YOU ARE THE MAN THANK YOU LENY SLY
Absolutely fantastic technique! Thanks so much for sharing Lenny.
Very well said lenny love ya bro love everything that ur doing on teaching aikido tecknieks its very much appreciated bro!!!! Plz keep them coming ur the greatest!!! Really u r!!! Ur the MAN ON TEACHING AIKIDO!!!! Ty again brotha ur friend jack from mi.
Your application of technique of this art is masterful. I work both as a CONTOMS LE Paramedic and on a street medic unit in high crime areas. When I'm working a non LE unit I cary no sidearm,Tazer,or baton. I do however carry my most effective weapons, my mind, my training, and my hands. I have learned so much from your videos that has real world practical application in both worlds. Your intensity and professional bearing keeps me coming back. I would love to come to your DoJo for training. These techniques have taken my abilities to a whole new level. Keep it going brother.......SEMPER FI
Tier1 TacMedic
HELL YEAH. Thank you for sharing your thoughts with me. your welcome to come train anytime.
Lenny~
great video, have never seen or thought about applying the sankyo and trapping the other arm in that manner. great concept, keep up the good work and keep taking aikido back.
Ahhhhhhh Yesssss ! ... So true !!!... love the rant Lenny and the technique freak'n grouse as well !
Keep it coming brother, I support your perspective about Aikido, I love it too, but most of all, I appreciate your heart behind your teaching and all you are getting across, being spiritually prepared either to die or to kill in Self-Defense must be taken in consideration, because if we don't apply Aikido that works, we will likely meet our maker, either way we need to be ready always! And consider the cost!
Hey Sensi. Another great video! ignore all the naysayers. Real world violence is an ugly and traumatic experience. Anyone who has been involved will understand. The problem with traditional Martial arts is they are still trying to fight Samurai on horseback and swinging a katana around their heads...... Last time I walked down the street I haven't seen many of those guys around. Anything that doesn't evolve to meet the needs of its environment WILL eventually die. Your evaluation of aikido is what people need AS WELL AS a firm foundation and understanding of the traditional.
Keep up the great work
Love this stuff. I've recently picked up Aikido again after a years long hiatus.
Both my old and my new sensei teach the traditional technique but both will often add:'But when you're on the streets, do this instead...."
I never even heard of no-pain compliance or not inflicting pain.
But I like the fact that I have an option to not inflict permanent damage.
Hi Lenny, great vid, best aikido vids on RUclips! 👏🏼💪🏼👊🏼👍🏼
hey lenny we worked on this at class tonight .............. awesome thanks from aikido of bristle county and south coast tenshin aikido in wareham ma.
Totally awesome love it great video too nicely done thank you so much
Always enjoy the process and your point of view
Rant on brother! Street-smart Aikido for today's world. love it!
very well said, my instructor left the tenshinkai flowing style in the 90s because of being nonrealistic and went his own way... I'm continuing that and taking it a few steps futher and have went this direction...good stuff man... arigato goziamas
Awesome. Totally agree with you on the pain perspective. I think it's important that people, especially Aikidokas, understand the idea of not wanting to hurt/kill while having the full capacity to do so, which doesn't mean that we should disregard the training to inflict pain. Dancing and compliant ukemi do not prepare you for a real self-defense scenario, this kind of (pain-compliance) training does.
Dude seriously finding your channel, I want to dedicate my life to training aikido. I basically have done it all but aikido because of you has my attention brother
The only problem that you’re likely to encounter is that I’m the only one that teaches aikido the way I do. That’s because I don’t care what other aikido sensei say about my methodology.
I’m going to teach it so others don’t have to spend decades learning shit wrong.
So unless you live here in Illinois you will have a never ending battle finding someone that teaches it like I do, which there is no one.
ROGUE WARRIORS TV well I’m in luck , I have your videos.
ROGUE WARRIORS TV and thank you very much I shall join a class then apply your teachings too it.
it is what it is; f**k what others say; if it works it works; you know your stuff lenny; kick-ass and keep uploading vids on defensive training. honestly the military should hire you to train us.
I love this! And you make lots of great points!
I saw one utemi as a setup for the sankyo, mentioned and was careful not to break his wrist, but to inflict pain. That is still Aikido in my eyes. Take it back. Take all of Aikido back!
Very nice version of sankyo, thanks for the video.
Thanks for saying what needs to be said! #takingaikidoback Hell yeah!
great work and words, thanks Lenny Sensei¡¡
Thank you for all you do brother.
I really enjoyed this video, thank you for sharing!!
Love the aikido rants sensei keep the vids coming, love your aikijutsu osu
I will return to my school in Valley Stream, NY when I have the chance. I've experienced exactly what you're talking about as a beginner. I'd be interested in Tenshin school in NY if there is one.
I love what you are doing! Aikido has not evolved and it is falling behind..thank you sir..
You mentioned it in the video, but would you mind making another one about kuzushi vs deflections vs blocks?
This is somewhat troublesome when it comes to traditional aikido teachers, so I'd love to hear your opinion and see some amazing applications.
Look Sly people really need to know more than one thing....which you do. Opportunities present themselves.
I start with boxing in an altercation . They asked what I had done when I showed up at their dojo. Boxing wrestling, 9 months of Kung Fu, Army combatives and some bjj for me. so basically I am not a push over.
When I first started Aikido they had a boxing rendori. I made them all look silly. They started cross training in boxing and bii after that. You should know know at least 2 or 3 different things. You use the Aikido when the opportunities present themselves..... and they will. Aikido is very effective. I took to Sankyo immediatly, it my favorite wrist technique I make black belts say ouch with it ( I'm not a black belt btw).
love your vids and the cute blonde football chick you used to have on..... that was awesome.
This is a great RUclips channel Sensei! Domo Arigato Gozaimas!
Thank you!
Thank you for sharing REAL Aikido with us! I am a USAF student of almost 10 years and the stuff that you teach is definitely superior to Akikai techniques. The Combative Concepts stuff kicks ass! I pity the fool on the receiving end of that! I will be binge watching your channel. Domo arigato from Amarillo, Texas.
Thank you again much appreciated. One of these days I’ll start filming again. The stuff I could share blows away what I already have. I’d say at least another 50 videos.
@@SLYSCOMBATIVECONCEPTS13 Definitely looking forward to more videos.
Love it ? Yes I find myself watching you more than tv haha. I have never been in a fight outside of the dojo and hope to never have one but if I do I’m not gonna be nice I’m gonna do what it takes to put that person in the hospital. Bc it’ll be me or my family member’s life on the line. I love what you do for sure. Am I an expert HECK NO but I’m a better karateka than I was and now I’m trying to incorporate your style of Aikido along with my Shorin ryu. Not easy ha but with our bunkai and also your techniques I don’t see how I can go wrong if need be. Practice practice practice ! Thank you Lenny !
This is fucking bad ass, keep them coming, Lenny! 👍👌
Have you ever planned en european tour? Would be wellcomed at our dojo in switzerland!
Listen Man, I Agree With You100%. Big Up Yourself Lenny.
we love aikido! The Laughing Lion
very nice sense
Respect Sly Sensei.Errol
As Ed Parker use to say " I fight in the dojo for points, I fight in the street for keeps"
peter wong
Love that quote!
Another awesome video. So great! What would in your opinion be the first thing to train to improve one's Aikido into an actual martial art coming from a "traditional" school?
Always enjoy your videos
you are a great man🖒🖒🖒
Love your Aikido! Do you have any further media available?
Natasha Anderson-Hunt
We have over 200 training video's in our online dojo library at

Your welcome
Hi Lenny Sensei, Awesome stuff. How did you learn this type of technique and train it? I'm very keen in adopting this type of training, but unfortunately no one has opened their eyes to this new way and wants to train it. Any suggestions would be appreciated.
great stuff, keep it up.
are you going to do any seminars in Britain any time soon?
I never EVER heard Choate-sensei say that there is "no pain compliance" in Aikido! I never felt more pain in my arm up to that point than the one time that Ikeda-shihan put me in a nikyo. John Stevens once wrote about the time that Rinjiro Shirata sat in a dojo talking about "nonresistance" (muteiko) as a major principle of Aikido. Just then some jerk jumps up and says "Nonresist this!" Shirata-shihan tossed him from seiza and says, "See, no one can resist nonresistance!"
Maybe there are no sacrifice throws in Aikido. Saito didn't seem to teach them. But no pain compliance???
Gregory W.
Exactly! Thank you for your comment. I wish the brainwashed aikidoka would understand this.
Thanks for the hard work. I've done Iwama for many years, and recently done some mainstream Aikikai and have completely lost interest in Aikido and basically I've stopped training. Your approach is making me reconsider picking up Aikido again. Keep it up! Aikido is a martial art...and everything evolves...otherwise it dies out...Domo arigato gozaimashita!
AstrotominChina
Thank you for commenting. I totally agree with you. That's why I've been sharing my aikido methodology with the world, via RUclips. Fortunately your not alone many people have been messaging me with many concerns. A lot of these people have done the same as you and now are reconsidering coming back to aikido because of my efforts of showing and speaking the truth to aikido.
Your techniques are great, but what i realy like is your mind set. This warrior mind set should be taught in ever dojo, because without it,any martial art is just a set of moves, coreography without any use in the real world.
By far my favorite version. #takingaikidoback
Love it you ever been to the hombu dojo lenny ?
No unfortunately I haven’t been to Hombu dojo. Maybe one day.
Thank you for watching and commenting, God Bless
@@SLYSCOMBATIVECONCEPTS13 be great for you to demonstrate there show it thanks I'm always looking to develop what I know
You know, I personally don't care. This is my expression of aikido.
Need that a lot more in aikido I think. I was in Iwama in 1985 with Saito Sensei and he was demo'ing some of his stuff and he said the same thing. He russled a few feathers but it was Saito Sensei, so who was going to say anything? And he proceeded to demo a whole range of key techniques all from HIS understanding of angles and pressure. It was very cool.
Nice 1...makes sense
Question isnt his style of aikido and mentality really daito ryu aikijujutsu
What different between aikido vs judo ?
Please reply to my comment Mr Lenny Sly. I got a question. Is the hand deflection in this video identical to the hand deflection of Kao Tsuki IrimiNage?
Aung Thiha Phyo
yes
Love what you are doing... I agree and also advocate that it is the students’ responsibility to seek efficacy in everything they learn. If they don’t understand and have quests then they should spend time to find answers.
There is however an effective yet “magical” side of martial art that’s not unique to aikido. I’ve seen it done with a very small number of people. It doesn’t work 100% of the time as everything has a counter. But when understood, it can enhance the power of any technique, to the point that people will less likely to want to or have time to counter.
To me the traditional techniques are questions left by the founder for future students to answer. And modifying as you are is a legitimate way, but I think the art does have the potential to evolve to the level that fits the ideal of the founder. An ideal is unfortunately is misunderstood by most of the aikido community.
Curious question and I hope you guys respond. Have you ever heard of Dan Harden, he's an Aikido guy that also does MMA. If so what do you think of him, is he legit?
rant lenny rant love it
Nikkyo and Sankyo hurt ........... depending on how you apply at my school it hurts.
Funk them Aikido bashers. Just Give me my real- World application. Do not give them your time on explaining. Fuck email all... I was a teenage Aikidoka practitioner and up until the last 10 year's I was Ukemi into and out of situations. So kudos thumbs up man.
If reincarnation was real. This is Takeda Sokaku reborn.
Like I tell my guys, "Little blood and a Little pain keeps us honest"...
1 love it
If they want Non Pain , they should stick to Tai chi . I have Three words Sensei , More , More , More . The more we know , the more we can Defend , and the more we can Attack if need be . Many Thanks to you and your assistant
i agree sensai
Amazing technique and yet, I do not see it work when there is a rain of fast punches and kicks. Problem is, to catch a punch in a real fight is damn hard. I have never seen any UFC fighter to apply a grip to a punching hand. Punches come fast and retract so fast, that there is no time to apply any grips. So the technique will surely work once the grip is secured. How on Earth do you secure a grip, when someone is punching you in a non-cooperative manner?
I would like to see a demo where this technique is applied to a person with boxing descent boxing skills who is punching for real.
⚡️TCB ⚡️
Summary: Aikido works, if you look like me.
Tell it brother
YES. More Jutsu, less Do. This is 2023, not Meiji era Japan. The fighting arts are not outlawed by the Emperor, boys. Don't freak out because the instructor isn't acting like a passive monk.
Fucking savage
Too many cut scenes, want to see straight full explanation. Swearing is ok. Like your aikido way sir!
Ronin
I wasn't cutting out profanity, I was cutting out dead space.
Never mind the naysayers. Most whining about what your doing are delusional about the effectiveness of their own Aikido.
Who's care
Who cares what others think I think it's great keep up you're very skillful
you should do a top 11 of your favorite/most brutal tecniques... 👌
kepaluri
Now that's a great idea. I will do that!
