it is alot brighter , not as rich compared to the mono , but apparently ogs looked like that
Hi Chad, many thanks for the clarification of the Art Pepper covers. In the end, it is the musical sound presentation that matters, and for me the Mono version is the preference.

YES! This is my favorite of the Jazz reissue series that you have been doing! Killer quality, killer records, that have not been given the same love and attention that other labels have been given over the years (Blue Note, Verve, Impulse). Love it!

Chad, nice to see some titles that haven't been reissued very often and not relatively recently. Im definitely in for the Leroy Vinegar and Art Farmer. West Side Story and some of the others, not so much.
Having said that, man there are some titles that I wish you would take a gander at.
Why?
Because these are titles jazz folks would go over the top for AND they are in your wheelhouse as far as your tastes:

(please do this title. Mono)
Harold Land-The Fox
Howard McGhee-Maggie's Back In Town!
(Straight up winner and right in your wheelhouse. Im serious please listen to that McGhee album)
Hampton Hawes -For Real!
(What a great album and one people would go nuts over being reissued)
And yeah, what about Hampton Hawes?
All those Volume 1-3 of "All Night Sessions" would sure make a great boxset. These are some of the more popular titles that people clammer for at auctions and online used.
Victor Feldman?
Why not "The Arrival Of Victor Feldman"
(If a Feldman is going to be done. Has Scott LaFaro and a much better album despite the stupid looking cover)
Jimmy Woods Sextet-Conflict
(with Elvin Jones cookin on those drums. A great album that is very difficult to find.)
These above Contemporary titles are not just one individuals wants, but some of the greatest titles that many many jazz fans want to see come out that are not that easy to find.
Chad, you want to blow jazz fans minds and have folks knocking down the AS doors?
Please allow me to mention 2 titles that are extremely desirable, are not crazy out there musically, are considered two of the top of the heap hard to find Contemporary titles and originals cost a gob of money:

We are in contact with the Marley estate, but we have a good relationship and we plan on doing more things, not sure when and what will be next. Pretzel Logic is not that far off.

Tell us about the difference between Contemporary Stereo vs Mono (the audio). When most of my friends listen to Art Pepper Meets The Rhythm Section almost everybody prefers the mono. Same goes for many other titles including Way Out West, Jazz Giant, etc. Why aren't we seeing more of these titles in mono ?
Cause mono is boring.
Why settle for black and white when you can have color?
Most people would rather have Stereo.
@@analoguecity3454 Its a case by case basis. Whatever mix serves the music. Maybe you like have a sax jammed all the way over into the right channel. The fidelity on mono also can be just as good or better. This myth that people prefer mono is not really true. Look at the RSD Mono of Art Pepper. Sounds fantastic and people were clammering for it left and right.

Yes, I verified that this is the case. We're using the same parts that Bernie cut for the box.

yeah ! one of my top 5 jazz labels. with my top 2 engineers ( roy d.n. and RVG ). you did great work as always ! DO YOU KNOW THE EVERLASTING MYSTERY of the STAMPER NUMBERS ( D1 D2 D3 D4 etc ) in the matrix ? if i have a stereo first press contemporary records LP with D1 stamper, that seems EARLY issue. but what does D2 and D3 mean related to the release year ? or even about the vinyl-quality, the pressing itself ? my STEREO "first presses" S 7003 LEROY WALKS has D1 D1 ( H stamp, Hollywood ). but my S 7018 ART PEPPER MEETS THE RHYTHM SECTION has D4 D4 ( H stamp ) and my S 7017 SONNY ROLLINS WAY OUT WEST has D1 D1 ( H stamp ). so the D4 art pepper is perhaps 5-10 years LATER pressed than a D1 stamper ?! is the quality the same ? sound? the value ? roy d.n. was not "there" anymore, perhaps even Bernie Grundman was there perhaps. please solve that mystery !!!! can Bernie say anything about that ? ..... asks andreas schmidt, jazz pianist in berlin/germany ( SURE that all details of cover, label color, DG etc are all like a first press "should" be, even at the D4 D4 stamper LP )

Why do you have Pretzel Logic behind you when it did not even have a release date? Did you slow down the Steely Dan albums to prioritize other releases? I thought Steely dan was a priority and I am not buying other things to make sure that I have the money to buy Steely Dan whenever they become available. Please, don;t forget Steely Dan.

I wonder if the Ornette Coleman albums are the exact ones from the box Craft released.
My biggest complaint on the art pepper stereo jackets is that the text on the front is slightly out of focus; not as crisp as it should be.

excellent News! The Contemporary catalog has so many treasures in it. For many years the only source for these titles was either an OJC pressing or trying to find an LAX or GXC series pressed by King Record in Japan which are not easy to find. Those early MONOs are truly terrific sounding too. So many turn up their noses at the MONOs but they are really, really good SQ wise.

Serious question: why such long lead times still? Supply chain challenges are shortening, globally, from the past few years relative to materials. Is this a capacity thing? More RTI outsourcing coming up?
We can only make a certain amount of records per day. We are into quality before quantity.

I don’t get this. Chad is saying here all the sub-standard Art Pepper stereo covers were scrapped, yet the one’s I’ve seen in the shops still look very poorly reproduced. If the ones in the shops are the “corrected” version then then first lot of covers must have been truly shocking.
