As it's connected to the land, to the Earth cycles and Animism, and Ancestors, to me it's more an awakening or Gnosis to what is already within us than a conversion. To convert implies a rationalization and, while there is a process of that when we shed our previous beliefs and awaken to our Pagan and Heathen souls, it's far more instinctive and intuitive. Just decide to do and follow it.

As a closet pagan, knowing I don't have to physically or vocally worship the gods helps so much, it helps protect me from my crazy hyper-Christian family and from those in the Bible Belt that aren't friendly to pagans. I've been harassed, insulted, been 'laid with hands' without my consent (aka they put their hands on me to pray over me without my consent), been told that I'm wrong, that my beliefs are wrong, etcetera. It's awful here for pagans if you're lucky, dangerous if you're not. Stay safe, stay hydrated, may the gods bless you, regardless of what you believe, and may the year be prosperous for you

What Thor represents is what I strive to be like. I ten started paying patronage to Freyja as well after my kitty passed away. Like your Channel - as someone who is half Native American and raised Catholic i find a certain connection to the old Norse ways - both the worship and warrier ways. I will say my Catholic prayers and then say good morning to the 4 directions in the morning. If i have coffee while waiting for the bus in the morning i will pour a little bit of coffee on the parkway as a way to "feed mother earth or Itom Aye in my tribe's language". Also native Americans and Mexicans (I am also half Mexican) we also honor the ancestor - I pray for all those who have come before, those who are here now, and those still to come". Finally I too feel offended by the racists who use Thor and Norse religious symbols. To me who feels a connection to the Old Norse and who is not Norse, i feel offended by the racists. There is no room for them when it comes to honoring ancestors, the warrier spirit, and honoring creation in both its natural form and in the man made form which is just creation reshaped. Thank you again for your channel

I want to share one of the best statements I've ever read:
The Norse pagans didn’t give anyone a specific set of rules to follow, rituals to perform or gods to worship. They just did as they had learned from their family and friends. They lived their life and got on with things.
As a part of their life, they thanked and sacrificed to the gods. They would respect and share food with the local deities. They would respect their ancestors and house spirits. They had a codex that they generally followed and customs they would adhere to.
The codex and customs were much about: be true to your word, show hospitality to everyone, act with honour, don’t be stupid, respect the gods and spirits, live a life where people remember you for the good stuff and protect your close family.
There is not really anything you must or mustn’t do. You don’t even have to worship the gods. They don’t really care. You just don’t get their help, if you don’t contact them. And if you are untrustworthy, cheap and nasty, it is not the faith that punish you, but the society and the fact that you are fully responsible for your actions.

They may have been indoctrinated into fear that if they don't speak against it they'll be punished. Narrow minds can be punishment. Many pagans are solitary and don't speak of it to those around them for the same reason. I'm sorry it's like that. I'm no longer around relatives who are highly judgemental & have found good people. Actually I believe that the only barrier to entry to becoming a heathen is simply "belief". You cannot worship something that you don't believe to exist. That's like worshiping santa clause when your parents told you he didn't really exist. In order to worship something is to believe it exists, and also believe in it (which in turn is simply believing it exists and is worth worshiping). Saying this is wrong is like saying people worship things they don't believe in. And I can prove this by asking anyone here to go up to anyone who practices a religion that has Gods or angels or the like and ask each person who whole-heartedly believes in those beings why they worship them and if they truly believe they exist. I will tell you 9 or 10 out of 10 times they will say they do believe those Gods or entities are alive and well and do exist, either on this plane or another. So to me, and this is my truth - that the only barrier to entry to becoming a part of -ANY- religion is simply "belief", or your belief system. I hope I helped someone today understand and learn.

It's possible to use something natural. It is still received if animals or birds benefit from it too. We've encroached on their available foraging lands. Fruit, washed if from a store, nuts, seeds, something healthy bc wildlife may well find it, isn't waste bc all living beings are sacred. To leave something healthy for squirrels or birds, for instance, counts & it can be small. You can leave a hoop made of woven grass or stems or vine to honor the circle of life, or make a circle from fallen acorns, or little stones. It's an acknowledgement. It's not that they can't get what we're leaving without us giving it, right? It's the action of recognizing and gratitude, the intention, that is the real offering, the reaching out with respect.

Religion does not equal race. Culture does not equal race. It only takes one person that worships the norse gods, to teach it to someone who is not of Scandinavian heritage, for the faith to spread. There are of course people like you who believe that it shouldn't do this.
But you are not the majority, and you do not control the faith. The Gods will do what they will, blood has nothing to do with that. Odin was a traveler of worlds who slept with, and had children with, several beings outside of the Aesir.
The Vikings were travelers, the people before the vikings in Bronze Age Sweden traded with Arabs. For over a thousand years trade route were open to the whole world. And do you think they were closed off to these outsiders? If a person interested in Odin, who was from a far a way land, would ask to worship him, would the ancient swedes say no? I dont believe so.
Your ideals come not from ancient history but from recent history.

    • @markedwards9247
      @markedwards9247 2 года назад +4

      @@TheWisdomOfOdin I disagree.
Australian Aboriginal people are pagan, but they can never be Norse Pagan.
A white American can go pagan, but they can never be a Sioux.
Our entire culture has been under attack from interlopers since Roman times, and then the treachery of Bluetooth.
Paganism, or barbarianism, as the Romans liked to call it (Berbers) was not destroyed from within. My own kin, Druid Britons, were slaughtered by Italians.
I feel very strongly about people who want to invite outsiders in, for their own gain, just like Bluetooth.
Paganism is not a cult that is measured by its membership. It is a clan heritage. That is the fundamental philosophy of the belief. The words clan, and kin, are fundamental to this. It is not a belief system, it is a communal heritage. It is not a religion in the modern context, which is simply reliant on a belief system. The Aesir smited their enemies. Just who do you suppose those enemies were ?
As a Celtic Druid, ancient cousins of our Norse brethren, I for one do not appreciate an "open house" policy for our ancient heritage. When Celtic Druids passed the Edda to the Norwegian explorers, it was a gift of heritage.
When the Norwegians first "discovered" Iceland, who do you think was there ? It was Celtic Druids. Irish priests. Please do not betray us.
There has always been modern contraversy about why Greenland was not named Iceland, and Iceland was not named Greenland. It does not seem to make sense. The truth is that Iceland was never named Iceland. It was named Æsland. And at that place settled the survivors of Atlantis. That is why our belief is genetic. We are not a religion to be followed by anyone. We are a race !

How does one prove they have the genetic birthright to worship the old gods?
      What genes does one need?
How much of our genetic makeup is the right amount?
Do beings as great as gods care about human genes? If so, how do we know?
Is us sill Americans becoming an influential worldwide organization evidence that the gods favor us more?
Theres a lot of gaps your silly supremacist ass has to jump to reach your conclusion.

@@markedwards9247 your statements rely on either merely boiling down pagan religions to allegory and mere cultural value embodiment which you then use as an argument for a cultural appropriation statement. Or, you must believe that the gods only speak to someone of a certain bloodline, which is quite frankly silly.

@@rook1294 Is it silly ? Ask the Jews. "The Children of God". Can you "become" a Jew ? No you cannot. It is a matter of heritage.
