He was one of the few survivors of a Hashishin assassination attempt and maintained a great relationship with the french. If Edward 2 wasn't such a F up, then there would of likely been a union of France and England as one country. Very smart, very aggressive, and honorable (he did not institute prima nocta etc). Moreover, unlike the movie, the Irish conscripts fought with the English, they did not change sides at all, as the eastern Irish at the time were his allies.
Being a king's son would've been hard. Imagine knowing you are totally unfit for the role, and knowing what a shame and disappointment you'll be, and yet your birth means you have no other choice.

The guy who played him absolutely knocked this out of the park. Probably the most authoritative, intimidating and scary presence i've seen put to film.

Thing with Braveheart, it could be a lot more accurate than we think. History texts are manipulated , much like Hollywood scripts depicting real life events. Either way this film is a classic , and the main truth is shown brilliantly. That being Scotland wanted sovereignty, and they got it.

Usually great kings make bastard fathers (e.g. King Jorge V) and great fathers make lousy kings (e.g. Czar Nicholas II). King Jorge the VI was an exception though. This movie was SO full of historical inaccuracies that it should count as a totally FICTIONAL film. But I’ve come to expect that for any “historical” film by mel gibson. The historical names and events of this movie should indeed be changed to fictional names to match the fictional story.
Never understood why people get so upset that it’s not historically accurate. It was never advertised as such. It is what it is. An entertaining blockbuster.

I think Longshanks is a good example of someone with psychopathy. He was ruthless, cruel, and power-driven. He only cared about how to control Scotland and didn't care about the Scottish people's suffering. Nonetheless good qualities for leadership.

I think Mel Gibson knew more about Norman and Viking history than people give him credit. The man was educated at St. Leo's Catholic school so he's well cultured and knowledgeable.
In the scene where they discuss breeding the Scots out, while he and the guys are laughing, crudely, cause they get to rape hot girls, he's laughing sadistically and his man says, "Excellent idea" in a sadistic way, more typical of a Swede or Dane or Spaniard or Jew. It makes the scene very chilling. Even in the midst of the confusion about the Isles, people still love "Harry Potter." Hell the Dursleys aren't as creepy as this asshole.
