Bro, I'm so glad you did this live version. Birth of heavy metal
Leslie West jammin and singing his ass off like nobody's bizness! Fun story - Leslie lived next to my best friend for a year or so back sometime between 74-76 up in the Santa Cruz mountains (same area Neil Young sang about in Old Man). Me and my friend were in high school, we'd go hang out at Leslie's place, smoke a bowl and he'd show us his butterfly collection. He had the an extensive collection, trays and trays of gorgeous exotic butterflies!! 🦋💖
Yes, I'm a boomer. And yes, I know there's good music out there today, but I will accept every gray hair, wrinkle, ache and pain and be thankful that I was alive and young when music like this was being made. It was amazing then and it's still amazing today!
amen
Me too…
I'm so glad we have RUclips so this can be just as great and new to younger people as it was to us back in the day.
Never In My Life, Theme From An Imaginary Western, and Nantucket Sleighride are just a few of the great songs by Mountain. Definitely check them out. My band opened for Mountain 3 times and they were amazing. Felix Papalardi was the bass player and also produced the band, Cream. He was later murdered by his wife. Leslie West had one of the best tones on guitar and Corkie Lang was one the hardest playing drummers I ever saw. INCREDIBLE BAND!!
Leslie West was one of the ALL TIME GREATS of rock vocals AND the guitar. They called him the King of Tone because millions tried to emulate his guitar sound.
HOW is the live version just as good as the studio version? Something called TALENT, which SOME people have, some don't.
CORKY LAING is the drummer and he is STILL ACTIVE!!! That man is one of the hardest hitting drummers, and one of the most talented of all time. Dude could play his ass off and had a whole show going off in the background when he played!
Just followed him on FB. He just did a gig in L. A. area. I love any drummer that can hit the skins harder than even the great Keith Moon. He is amazing!
Absolutely love that you did this reaction. We used to cruise Main street in H.S. on the weekends listening to this 8 track in my 69 mach1. You brought back a ton of memories.
This is the first "Heavy Blues" guitarist, RIP ,,,,,,this is my national anthem
I was only 7,but I love this tune!
Thanks for doing this one live !!!love it !
Mountain one of the best live act ever.. My siblings and friends were huge Mountain fans, can’t understand why they didn’t have more mass appeal..
SO GLAD you took the time to watch both. They are really worth listening to (about a million times!). You have one of the better reaction channels, hands down.
Damn good song
Don't Look Around is another masterpiece by Mountain. It's a jam. The live version of this is incredible.
There was a lot of great keyboards back in the mid 60' to late 70's.
Sometimes quality is a quantity all its own. Lets go!!!
Thanks to RUclips the 60s and 70s music is just as new and just as great to young people today as it was to us back in the day.
It's definitely live in my mind because the studio can be done in a way where they come in one at a time and put their track down and then they might have to do certain parts of it over and over until they get it the way they want it to sound. And now days that is the way 99% of things are done. They have someone who comes in and mixes it and they can add sounds to it that the band didn't even do and change the way something was or sounded. When you think about all of the stuff they do to a recording before they will actually put it on the final cut and release it and then you think about the fact that this band just tore it slap up in the sense of they put it down in one take and then they did it over 5 decades ago to me that puts it in the category of greatness for real.
My former band "Harvest" opened for Mountain at the Ritz theater in New York on April 11th,1970. Got to meet the band backstage and it was great. Shout out to you for reacting to this live performance. Peace. P.S. you should check out the studio version of "Never In My Life".
Leslie West passed in 2020 in Palm Coast, FL....not even an hour from where I live. Wow! What a performer!
I saw Mountain back in 2008. Felix had already along passed on so they had a scab bassist. Leslie West and Corky were in fine form. A few years later I heard Leslie lost his leg then passed away. RIP Mountain
Great classic rock here❤😂🎉🌍🌎🌏🎉😂❤
Ole Leslie is grooving!
Leslie always seemed to play this a little differently every show. He had a ton of licks off of this song and would just reach into the bag and pick out a few juicy riffs every time.
The late Great Leslie West
Yes !! 🔥🔥🔥🔥
if you want to see/hear a different version Zakk Wylde (guitarist for Ozzy) has a crazy 9 minute version of this song where he just destroys guitar solos for future guitarists. It's a LIVE performance.
Zakk is my fav guitarist ever and truly underrated, but IMO among the greatest all time!
Corky and Lelsie were childhood friends in NYC. He didn't play drums, he beat the crap out of them. His girlfriend used to stand behind him and hand him replacement sticks because they went splintering off in all directions. I saw them in 1970 up close. I had to duck a few times :)
Lelsie..WTF? LESLIE
Yep. Corky beat the hell out of those drums. I have a broken stick from a Mountain show at Washington U in STL, 1972. Such an Amazing show !!
i don't play this often but when i do everyone who lives within a 3 block radius of my house enjoys it.
Leslie West looked like he belonged in a carnival exhibit.
And the weird shit you see from performers today isn’t more clownish and stupid?
LIKE your taste in music -giving this tune its DUE!! (in my pick of top 3 rock songs, EVER!) Studio take is my pref, & drummer you're probably thinking of is keith moon.
While I generally favor the live performance (like in this one), it was really reinforced when one of my favorite songs “Bad Company“ by Bad Company, would come on in the car and you just kept the engine running while it played. Fast forward, and I recently saw them perform it when they were significantly older (getting towards my age!😳) And it was BETTER!!! I couldn’t believe it!!
The lead singer is the Pavarotti of rock.
Listen man. Ive commented and commented. The drummer youre thinkin of is Keith Moon.
If you only listen to me once then hear me now: Louie Bellson!
This guy did double kicks 80 years ago...

I think he's thinking of Animal, the muppet drummer.
Have you done a reaction to Foghat? If not, you're gonna love em.
Lesley was from Da Bronx. Felix Pappalardi the bass player was shot and killed by his wife. Corky Lang is on the drums.
Only drummer I ever seen jam like that is Keith moon from the band the who go check them out
Ozzy even had to make a cover of this and it is pretty good ..
Leslie West was a Mountain of a man.!!
Drummer reminds me of Keith Moon from The Who....rippin' it!
Corky Lange was the drummer
Watch the live long version Another Brick in the Wall...Pink Floyd
Foo fighters covered this u should check that too
No auto tune LOL
in the early rock & blues days you had to have real talent, not so much if ever now days, it's so much faked.... never will compare to the late 60's -early 80's.
You still don’t get it! If the band is really good, the live performance is always better! Novice! 😵💫
It was at a TV studio. Live was better and there are mountains of other good Mountain songs.
Luckiest 12-person audience ever!
In that performance Leslie left a lot of the guitar work out. Its not one of the best performance. Its kinda disappoinring to us Mountain Fans
So long-winded that I can't watch you anymore
You are really long-winded
