  • I LOVE THIS GAME! Anemoiapolis is a Liminal Space horror game and it's FANTASTIC! Liminal spaces are kind of like going out of bounds in real life, they are very unnerving but also kind of calming places. I really loved the pacing of this game, it started being calm, then creepy, then absolutely TERRIFYING. I hope you enjoy! Much love and see you during the streams :D

      At the risk of turning this academic, liminal spaces can be subjective where one person will feel more unsettled while another person will feel greater nostalgia. There are little things in this game that try to bring out both feelings. For instance, the slides are wonderful but the weird deep swimming pool with a platform that goes only halfway to the bottom makes me think of getting stuck underneath it and drowning. Also the "ghost" in the shower room making shower noises invokes an unease I felt in locker rooms knowing that someone else was there where I felt vulnerable. The character is getting away from the shower sound the way I would try to find a shower stall furthest from other people. This dev did their homework!

    24:40 - Ghost is flying
    26:15 - Ghost under the water
    33:20 - Ghost is taking a shower then going for a visit to bully insym
    33:33 - Ghost starts to bully insym
    33:50 - Darkness is following insym and then a ghost appears to bully
    34:42 - Keep moving
    34:54 - The lockers are opening

    Who else has just come here from watching Insym play the full release of this game only to discover that it was a huge disappointment? This was the experience we all wanted and expected. It was fantastic. Watching him not have to deal with that absolute immersion breaking ticket system and instead just enjoy a seamless experience was so much fun. And the shadow that was much more ever present stalking him the whole time added some nice terror.
    I never saw this video until AFTER I had watched his full release playthrough and I am so glad I came back to it as he strongly suggested. This is the real game, folks, short as it is. I really hope the developer takes the huge amounts of criticisms regarding the terrible decision to add those tickets to heart and ditches it completely in Chapter 2. Or maybe even find some way to fix it in Chapter 1. Regardless, he has a lot of disappointed fans right now.

    • @v1ku390
      @v1ku390 Год назад +5

      Yeah I do see his point
      the new mall place is just lacking in general it doesn't have much detail (I mean it is a liminal space but I mean the quality)
      Also wtf is the point of having tickets I hate the idea of that bc they shouldn't really exist and are unnecessary

    • @ellen-ofx4570
      @ellen-ofx4570 Год назад +5

      Also here from after the full release:
      I also found the entire mall structure with the elevators to also be immersion breaking. It felt more like game levels than this awful inexplicable maze you'd absolutely hate to explore but have to. Using the mall as a central hub could work, but I don't know, execution is just not quite there and the levels just felt too isolated to make the whole thing work
      The pool area was so incredibly well done, I was so disappointed by the other areas and the forced structure to the game, glad I came back to see this :)

    • @RookLobby
      @RookLobby Год назад +1

      Agreed!
      Every youtuber so far has reacted similarly to the changes, and it's way better to go back into beta gameplay. It's truly awful that the developer felt pressured enough by Steam policy to ruin their own game like this. I hope chapter 2 implements the suggested (better/original) changes.

    This game showcases every people's fear I guess.
    Isolation, being alone, a shadow chasing you. Areas that usually are cheerful are abandoned and are mazes, retail spaces and stores in pristine condition yet empty...etc..etc..

  • @immacat515
    @immacat515 2 года назад +14

    This game makes me really sad on some level, because as a kid I was never allowed to go to those swimming parks, etc. Then as a teen I had germaphobia/bacteriaphobia REALLY bad, so I couldn't really go anywhere without a fear of contracting something lol! And now as an adult I have no clue where I'd go, nor do I know if there is any place where it'd be acceptable for an adult to go since all the times I've ever heard of are meant pretty much only for kids.
    I adore this game, because it let me live my fantasy of wanting to swim and have innocent fun, but also sad because I never got to have that.
    All in all, thank you for playing this; it was an absolute treat and watching you have a blast re-living truly good and fun memories made me have fun with you and feel as if I was there too in a way. I hope that makes sense. xD
    Stay safe :)

    I remember my school didn't start taking kids swimming for PE until we were in the last year of primary school (10-11 years old). Now, it was shocking to me and maybe 5 others how few of them could swim.
    We were split up into 3 groups: A small group that had never swum EVER, almost everyone else: had been paddling and could swim enough and then this weird elite group that I was in with half a dozen other kids that worked on lifesaving skills.
    In hindsight I'm glad they did it because I hear of far too many people that are afraid or can't swim at all.... and being the UK and ESPECIALLY being a costal town with one of the largest tidal ranges globally, and it scares me the number of people going paddling that can't actually swim.
    My family has always had the ethos that a child is in water no later than 12 months old. By the time I was turning 4 I was swimming completely unaided, just needed to practise on form and stamina. It's literally a life-saving skill just to learn the basics and have an understanding of what to do in emergency situations (also a thing that got taught. Along with swimming fully clothed. Which sucks)

    I really like this game. It, along with other "liminal" imagery like old Chuck E. Cheeses, old, nearly abandoned malls, and the like, invokes that familiarity feeling... but it also makes me feel a bit melancholic -- like this is a part of a memory from my childhood, of a time long since passed that I will never be able to revisit. I love the feeling of familiarity, of the memories it brings back, and that is why I love this kind of artwork, and by extension this game.

    Rewireing is actually a thing that I have done to open a gate.
    I used to work as electrican for automation plants and one time when working at germany I and my collegaues had to open a gate to pass our car. I found out that the panel wasn´t locked and overwrote all security by pressing the relais to open and then close the fence. Noone said anything, so I kept on doing it for 5 day, after that the company ( a concrete processing plant ) gave us a key and locked the panel hard c: . It had no consequences, since it was compleatly legal to do what I did, just tired workers leaving for dinner/sleep.
    The bosses even saw no problem with it, it surely is in my top 5 of good places where I installed machines (now I study)

    Indie games nowadays look insane, I dont understand how they made all the water reflexions look so realistic, it feels like a real freaking indoor pool

    The whole swimming pool place strikes your desires and dreams even harder after Rona. 😅

    Since I can't swim, I'll instantly die on the first scene if it happened to me IRL lol

    As someone who is terrified of deep, dark water, I think exploring the pools scared me more than anything else LOL

    The indoor pool liminal spaces are the best!
    Seems like the game got that right.

    actually, if they were inside of a closet for recording it probably wouldn't be like that, I am an indie dev and one time I was working with a professional game va and her home studio was putting mattresses in front of her closet and recording inside it, that is literally how she recorded stuff for big companies like EA lmao
    fun fact I guess
