Grew up there in the mid-1950's till the early 60's. Steeplechase had closed down by then but there were lots of rides still, horror houses, cotton candy, ice cream cones, and Nathan's hotdogs. We lived 3 blocks away and my mother would make tuna fish sandwiches and we would go to the beach and eat them there - so good in the salt air! And we learned to walk a lot all over. My brother and I still walk a lot today - just the healthy habit we were raised with. Thank you, Riegelmann Boardwalk. I remember the bumper cars, the twisting ride, the ponies, and the airplane-helicopter ride, and we watched people scream on that famed Parachute ride.
I can't believe I rode those Steeplechase horses when I was a little kid. Rode on it with my father -- he in front, me clinging to his back. Even then I thought it was a scary ride. Don't remember being strapped in. There was one spot going downhill where it really picked up speed. Wowee. Then at the end of the ride you had to run a gauntlet of little people running after you with noisy sticks and a machine that blew girls' skirts up. All this in front of a seated audience that got a free show at our expense.
Riding those Steeplechase horses was great the line was always alone no but it was well worth it I will always remember that ride and the slide was another experience it was so high wouldn't and you had to hold your elbows on your lap because if you didn't you get burned on the way down on that slide
I had the same experience with my Dad around 1951 (I was 10). He remarked with surprise how flimsy the strap or whatever it was seemed. Never forgot that ride.
Sad that most of these rides don't exist any more. Although a tad dangerous, they could have been modified. I dream of having been able to ride the steeplechase :( No, the new one just isn't the same on any level.
Busty Blonde Beach Bunny me too and I have been desperately trying to recapture it for years. I own 4 vintage trailers, a vintage car, vintage Predicta tv, vintage machine age furniture and more.
Back then, you could ride a freakin roller coaster that didn't have any seat belt, nowadays people have to buckle their kids up like a mummy for a simple drive to the store.
as part of my historical research I am fascinated what the Injury Rates of specific rides were and how the park handled accidents its rarely described anywhere
So sad that by the 1970's Coney was a no-mans land. You needed a gun to hang out there, cops stayed in groups. Beach was filthy (not like now) with hypo's, broken glass and Coney Island White Fish (condoms) every-freakin'-where. A stark difference from Brighton Beach. Brighton did have them hot Ruskie chicks. Didn't need Viagra.

Wish I could take a time machine just to spend a day there.

P.S.: the blown up skirt show was not free. I believe it cost you one punch of your ticket.
Would be something to experience, at least for one day, maybe two! 😂
Aloha 😊🤙🏼

Busty Blonde Beach Bunny it’s a ‘57 AMC Rambler. Two tone teal and white.
No, you can't go back again. But if I could, I would.

A special time for me
Many of those rides are long gone thanks to legions of fun-killing lawyers.

Was there 2 years ago, still a great time
Looking at the cars near the end this might have been as far back as the 40s.
Destroyed by Fred Trump, thankfully we still have Cyclone.
🎢 a roller coaster👍

In the Summer it's still great, but stay away in the Winter, especially at night. No joke!

Noticed there were NO seatbelts on the Cyclone.
Are there seatbelts on it now?

Different time. That was definitely not fun to watch that part. But it was what it was.
