Shigaraki has evolved from "I want to kill All Might because I'm angry" to "I want to tear down the society that relies so much on heroes that people suffer more when those same heroes are nowhere to be found. Like when All Might wasn't there for me."
@Sam Cherry when i first saw shigaraki i immediately did not like him that much considering my most fav characters in the show is all might and midoriya but after i saw his character development and motives and his relationship between all for one i just got hooked. now shigaraki is one of my favourites, and i already seen the manga so i cant wait some of those shigaraki moments to be animated!

He does hate the general hero society and people he just wants to kill All Might because he is the face of all that. It would be practically impossible to kill ALL the heroes however if he kills All Might it would feel (to the general public and even other heroes) that hero society is dead
Think of it this way if Endeavor was the number one hero from the start then Shigaraki would hate him as much as he hates All Might now, it’s the position and the prestige and trust of the people that comes with it that Shigaraki really hates

I'm not sure if the series is going to follow the ideology that villains believe that they are the heroes, but at least Stain has fit into that. All For One didn't feel very sympathetic, but Shigaraki might still have potential. The thing to keep in mind is that now that he's lost his mentor, in the hero's journey it shouldn't be long before we see him on the rise.

I haven’t really seen anyone point this out in comment section yet but I was actually kinda suprised at how well all for one took care of his minions. Like he encouraged shigaraki to keep trying after he failed, then made sure everyone got away safely before all might could go all out. I’m so used to seeing big bad villains not care about those below them that it was a refreshing surprise that he actually cared
You know, I could be wrong of course, but I don't neccessarily think AFO really...cared, in that sense at least. I thought of it like this: similar to Deku being All Might's successor, Shigaraki is AFO's, a villain with the potential and with careful guidance could prove to be a challenge if not even surpass the Symbol of Peace (All Might or perhaps Deku in the future). If something severe were to happem to Shigaraki (along with the supporting villains) his plans of overthrowing All Might as well as hero society etc could not really come to frutition. All for One is pretty manipulative and grooming Shigaraki to become the opposite of what his very own rival's pupil is (Deku: Symbol of Peace, Shigaraki: Symbol of Evil), maybe I' reading too much into it but I think ifa threat of All Might's calibre were to directly harm Shigaraki, all his plans would go to waste so evacuating the area beforehand seemed logical enough. ...I'm so sorry if my comment irked you! I'm not disrespecting your opinion on it just thought to add in my own view of that scene. :)

He gives Shigaraki complete agency to come up with his own plans, take the lead and learn from his mistakes. And he is also there for him when he needs emotional and physical support. Its weird to say this but AFO is 10000 times a better father to Shigaraki than Endeavour is to Shoto... Hes a great parent figure Hahahaha
The bunch that he pulls out isn't just any bunch of low level lackeys though. Seems there's been some investment in this villain team that parallels those of the hero kids. If they're putting in an effort towards the underlying plans, then it'd be a waste to throw all that away. Not to mention abandonment might get some to go turn-coat, which would be a problem. On the other hand, the Nomu seem pretty unintelligible and single minded, so those lab-grown mutants are the disposable minions despite being some of the strongest monsters for the heroes to go against.

nah I really prefer him to be this physically weak but DEADLY character. It will force him to be more tactful in how he fights deku. Possibly using meat shields, poising gas etc to win where as deku has to over come those odds.
Not exactly new to us Manga readers, but yes. Shigiraki's growth in parallel to Deku's has very likely been the plan the whole time. Personally, I rather like it. It's not an angle used much, in fact it's pretty rare. Plus the dynamic between him and All for One is awesome. A villain the makes, and sticks to an organized plan is scary, true, one that actually cares about his underlings is more so imo.

I think the author tricked us when he introduced Shigaraki. All Might made him out to be a joker-type villain, being evil just for evil sake. I think he is the way he is because he got tired of people's hypocrisy. People create rules for themselves, morals to live by. These same people walked by while he was in need of help. I think he is wanting people to be free to be the people he believes they truly are, without morals, without rules.
Nathan Higgins all for one took a small fry and gave him a push and while protecting him he makes sure he becomes as strong as him and takes his place, just like all might did with Midoriya. Shigaraki's motives came little by little

joker is NOT evil for evil sake my man 😭 yea ofc shigaraki didnt have a clear understanding of why he was a villain, as he was conditioned to suppress memories and do bad things because of the anger in his heart of which he couldnt remember the origin for, which is why he made those cheesy statements, but dont get it wrong yea in a way it was a joker influence, especially since they embody the same things and kinda have similar backstories, they both experience the extremes of injustice in their world, and being in a setting that heavily advocates the importance of justice (batman for the joker, and the hero society for shigaraki), they find the irony repulsive because of their own experience and swear to bring it all down with their own hands. both of them were nobodies, "jokes" in the beginning of their arcs, but they took that hatred and used it as fuel to become a deadly force to anyone trying to stop them.
Just like how Deku is learning to become the worlds greatest hero, Shigaraki is learning to become to worlds greatest villain. This is basically a stroke of genius from Horikoshi

Excellent video, Matt. Shigaraki it is very evident that Horikoshi made him to be akin to Deku. Someone learning to be evil. Shigaraki clearly has some major beef with hero society, a lot now teased in this season with All For One. But that's the thing; Shigaraki didn't have a purpose. He was as All Might and everyone said, a "man child" in that he was lashing out without any convictions. heck, Midoriya calls out Shigaraki's cowardice at USJ when contrasting him with Stain. And it is there that Shigaraki understands. That everything he was doing even under All For One's guidance was aimless and unfocused. He needed a goal to focus on; something that would drive him to be do better. Killing the symbol of peace is that goal. Combined with him becoming less angry, I can say I genuinely love Shigaraki as an antagonist.
I'd say the manga actually excels at some things better than the anime, yet the anime still surprises manga readers with fights and extra scenes (for example, the next episode stuff with yaoyorozu and todoroki during hero license exam is completely anime only) so I don't think you should worry too much about getting the shock factor being lost. Or at the very least, read the manga chapters until where the anime is at, the comedic timing is generally better in the manga and some of the translations by fans are pretty interesting and add to the story more than the official ones are
idk, since i read the mange from 110 on (where the series is at) and i guess the series adds stuff..... shows stuff the manga didn't. i suggest u read the manga....
His development, especially in regards to his conflict with Overhaul, another villain, is so freaking good. I mean, Shigaraki literally planned everything in advance without failing to accomplish said plan
I like how Shigaraki just stumbles into people following him due to Stain yet he doesn't just tell them off or roll with it, he tries to understand via a session with Dr. Deku no less, cause apparently he's everyone therapist, why they're so into Stain and not him. It was hilarious, creepy, kind of scary and neat. I loved it.
You perfectly described the experience with Shigaraki for many thoughtful viewers. When I first saw him he was so blunt and pale, the only thing that characterized him was his insanity and wish for the destruction (like so many others washed-up villains). It really hard to take seriously the man that wears pajamas as his casual outfit. But it was only because we didn't know the intentions of Horikoshi - to make the main villain grow alongside the main hero. And it's so fascinating, it's such a rare situation. From my head I can name only one another example - Zuko from Avatar, but even then Zuko and Shigaraki is nothing alike, I'm sure Horikoshi will take different route with him. To create such a deranged and marginalized character and then make him learn and grow... I can't wait to see how Midoria and Shigaraki relationships will play out in the future.

One must see he didn't come 'done' to us. We're seeing the process, the progress, the birth of what may be the next most important villain in the whole series. Y'all just want strong 'STAIN' villains right away, because that's what you're *used to* . Don't forget he has a parallel development to Midoriya. And that is what make him so interesting.
DogeKing 666 That I believe is Horikoshi fascination with hands. He's admitted in multiple interviews that he loves drawing hands and hands for those adept at drawing, are often the hardest thing to draw. Just knowing that makes me look at the series a lot more differently.
Lol if you want the legit answer it's cause the image of All for one reaching out a hand to help him is sacred to him, he seems all for one as his father and the hands are representative of always having his father's hand guiding him.....or he just wants to have a quiet life that's just my guess
Shigaraki is interesting because of his growth. AFO is clearly acting in such a way as to cultivate him and their relationship exactly mirrors deku and all might's. Shigaraki is developing from a rotton (but victimized) child throwing tantrums into a scheming and jaded adult, who in turn challenges Deku's ideals. His relationship with midoriya is important because they develope off of each other, so without exchanging many words, each character is an obstacle for the other to overcome. It's still somewhat shallow and needs more development but we can clearly see where it is going, and it's will be quite exciting the next time they properly confront each other.

You kinda got his new goals wrong. While yes, he does still want to kill all might, he is more focused on destroying society as a whole now. If he still only wanted to kill all might, then he wouldn't have even attacked the training camp.
The title should be "Why Shigaraki MIGHT become a revolutionary villain", because the way the current title reads comes across as very matter of fact, which is not the case at all. Saying he's becoming a good villain is all well and good, but implying that he's already a revolutionary villain solely from the fact he learns, is definitely a stretch. Beside that, this was a really good video.
But you literally say "quite possibly" before saying revolutionary villain towards the end of the video, which has more or less the same implication as saying he MIGHT become a revolutionary villain. Also, one of your main arguments for why his ability to learn is what makes him revolutionary is that you've never seen any other villain before do that. Well, given that, who's to say any other anime villain hasn't done this before, that you may not be aware of. And even if this isn't the case, I could easily say that another anime villains are revolutionary because I've never seen any other villain do what they did before. Again, I find it to be a bold claim for something that while still very good, is still somewhat subjective. Another point I want to make is that while yes, his ability to learn from the protagonist is a very good, and I'll admit rather a unique character trait for a villain to have, this doesn't make Shigaraki's new found ideals any more impressive. Even you said in the video that their still not the most powerful ideals, and the way he comes to gain his ideals, are still kinda weak in comparison to other villains, like Stains and just other anime villains in general. One idea I thought would have been interesting, that I'm surprised this anime hasn't touched upon yet, is the discrimination of people based on their quirks, and that some parts of society believe that some quirks make the individual inherently evil. And given Shigaraki's quirk, and that we know he's been abandoned, it would be interesting if that became his motivation for wanting to kill All Might. Wanting to destroy the symbol of peace and justice for a society that doesn't reflect it in themselves. The last point I wanted to make, is that even if it does become the case that Shigaraki does become a revolutionary villain, I would have I thought a video like this would come out a bit later into the anime, when there is slightly more to go off on, as in what he actively does with what he learns, instead of making the statement solely based of the fact he's a villain shaped by the protagonist. We've already seen the beggings of Deku's hero journey, but we've only seen started to see the beginning of Shigaraki's villain journey. One for All said it himself. He still has much to learn. I'll be honest, I didn't want to make a big deal out of something so little, and as much as I am lovely season 3 of MHA, I found a lot of RUclipsr's give both first and second season a bit too much credit than I think they deserved, and I don't want this trend to return for the third season to, before it's even halfway done.
Lincoln Beckett-Scott I completely disagree with your arguement. What makes Shigaraki so special is that he's constantly evolving and becoming better. He's already Revolutionary because he's currently umdergoimg a process no other Shonen Villain has ever gone through. You're thinking of the final product when you should be paying attention to how he's becoming an amazing villain.
"Revolutionary" might be a bit of a stretch. The concept of a villain progressing alongside the protagonist while still retaining their villainy isn't super common, but it's not exactly new. Viral from Gurren Lagann is a good example of this (before the timeskip, at least). The tricky thing about a video like this is that Shigaraki's journey isn't over yet, so while someone like Viral does eventually join up with the heroes as part of his overall arc, there's no way of knowing where Shigaraki will end up. He could potentially end up the same way. We don't know since the story isn't over. He's certainly an interesting character, perhaps one of the show's most interesting characters, but I think it's a little early to call him "revolutionary." (I only say this because I've made similar mistakes in my own videos when it comes to making overly broad claims without enough supporting evidence to back it up) (I'm sure there are better examples than Viral out there, but that's all I could think of at the moment. I guess, to a lesser extent, Meruem from Hunter X Hunter has a similar character arc going on (starts off just attacking randomly but eventually develops a purpose to act upon), although that's during a single arc rather than an entire series (I mean...the chimera ant arc is actually longer than the amount of Hero Aca material you're covering here, and Gon has his own mini-arc in that section of the story...). Okay, so the dynamics of the two aren't quite the same, but they're similar enough that I'm still going to call bullshit on your Meruem video again lol. Mathwiz97X I’d say it’s more refreshing rather than revolutionary. As you mentioned, when villains grow as characters and their beliefs evolve its almost always towards being good. Seeing a villain do the opposite, grow as a person and in their beliefs in order to be a better villain, usually doesn’t happen. Or if it does, it’s not so obviously meant to parallel the main protagonist’s journey.
I'm all caught up on One Piece but its been such a long time since Blackbeard has made an appearance I totally forgot about him or what he's about. He does have a lot of similarities with Luffy. I'd say the big difference is that both Luffy and Blackbeard already have fully formed beliefs on the core themes of One Piece (Freedom and friendship) prior to ever meeting and don't really change each other's beliefs and don't really have their beliefs changed by anyone else. Blackbeard is still a great villain, but more because he has an incredibly different interpretation of the same core beliefs held by Luffy.
Donquixote Doflamingo Fair enough. I think it depends more on what kind of story you like. One Piece is a much more grand story with a massive, I’d say Tolkien level, amount of development put into the world itself, but with a much looser unifying theme. There are a lot of moving pieces and each have their own motivations. MHA is much more tightly condensed and single minded story asking a single question: “What is a hero?” I think both villains are great for their respective stories, but which you like more might come down to which kind of story you like more.
I'd agree with most of that. I don't think fights need to be long to be good, but I agree that the Stain fight and Deku vs. The most recent villain were really good, and mostly because they went through distinct phases and had interesting fight dynamics. I'd say the Overhaul arc was overall the weakest arc thus far, but I think it was more meant to develop Shigaraki and the League of Villains as opposed to Deku (although the Kirishima development was awesome). I wish it had been much shorter though.

Shigaraki is a child. These staging are like him maturing. Shigaraki would have made Bakugo crumble to dust like the farts of and 90 year old woman. But he puts up with it, going with the plan. Insane
I really dig your style. You've got a defined look, something that people immediately will see and hear and know "That's Manime Matt!", and I think that works extremely well. The biggest thing I like is the look. I'm a sucker for minimalist and light colors, and your videos are really easy on the eyes as a result. There's clearly time and effort put into making these, and it shows. Your audio is quite nice as well, and combined it creates a really pleasant experience. In fact, when there's clips being shown your work really speaks to a high level. This video is a great example, and as a result it looks damn fine! The only problem comes from when screenshots/images are used. So there's a few segments in this that really popped at me. They're probably not going to with the average individual, since the visuals are just an accompanying piece, but I'm rather big into the visual element as well and these things really distracted me. I've also noticed them across numerous different videos as well, as I wanted to check if this was just a one off, so I hope you don't mind me getting into a bit of detail with them. Such as at 0:37 we end up with jagged edges, which are unfortunately highlighted greatly by the blue background. At 0:49 we end up with a low quality image enlarged. However, the biggest notice of the variation of quality in images is at 1:36. This becomes really hard to ignore, and is incredibly distracting as well. While my content is far from perfect, and I entirely understand with a limited quantity of time and resources, I can't help but to feel that these products really bring down the overall quality of your content. Which is really strong, to be perfectly honest. Some of them even come across as just half assed, or even worse just plain lazy. Especially since there's methods out there of image enlargement without losing quality (waifu 2x for a quick method, or RUclips search How to Enlarge Image 500% without Quality Loss in Photoshop if it's available to you) but I personally would recommend using an entirely different image that maintains a consistent quality with the ones you are using. Extractions an issue? Take the time to learn the Pen tool if possible or spend a bit of time really getting acquainted with the lasso as well. A good extraction goes a long way in presentation, and also will look much better enlarged. It's quite strange to see you put such time and effort into the video production end, but on the image end have them be so low end. If you find yourself in a position where that ends up happening, in most cases it's better to not use an image at all than to use one that really throws off the balance of the whole video. I hope you don't mind my words, as I do not mean any offense or to be disrespectful. I just personally feel that if you were to nail down the entirety of your production, you'd really be hitting a whole new level. Especially with the quality of work you're already producing! I just feel that the images really bring down the hard work you put into your product, and does a disservice to some serious quality content. Thank you for your time, and take very good care of yourself too!
Learned from his mistakes? He was a goalless psychopath who went after All Might for no reason. Now he's a Goal oriented Psychopath who actively goes after All Might because he's a symbol of peace. Not That Big A Change
first of all he is a sosyopath two. his master afo made him believe he can do whatever he wants three. the reason he hates heroes makes sense cause he was the victim and ue attack was his beginning and think about everything about him, he is really growing fastly. i think you cant see the point
Excellent video. Making phenomenal protagonists is one thing but making phenomenal villains that can play off of the heroes and even learn from them, and vice versa, is one of the best ways to have a compelling series. Horokoshi nails this so well, it's great.

I’m glad you’ve come to this conclusion. I usually only see Tomura getting hate, but I always thought there was a huge potential with him, and since the Season 2 finale, we’re seeing that. Having him realize what it is he wants to accomplish and his path to villainy actively during the show makes him one of my favorite villains ever. I even thought about making a video myself, despite that not being my thing, because it didn’t seem like anyone else appreciated this. Especially today, something most people tend to forget is that “simple =/= bad”. But you articulated it here better than I probably would, so props.
He’s taking initiative as a villain but still seeks guidance and he’s learning to be more of his own. I love it. Even in the opening of season 3 he’s reaching out to him but then learns to walk on his own and guides the leave of villains mmm I love it

Great video.. I am not sure if this is something that much revolutionary as you make it out to be, but I do definitely agree that I feel like I've grown to enjoy seeing Shigaraki much more nowadays than I did in season 1 where he didn't seem that interesting to me. I myself am, for a year already in fact, on the search for and writing down a few character "designs" or like.. base motives .. for me to use once I do some cringey furry comic. And I had a lot of things written down that I later on, when I started watching My Hero Academia, also found in Shigaraki. And, because I myself was pretty proud of how this antagonist I had made was something super cool and new and awesome, I now, even if I can't use him anymore cause people would call him a rip-off, am excited to see how it'll go along in mha at least... Idk...
My issue with the MHA villains in general is that they’re just evil because they want to be evil. What we really need is a villain that has a point, a point that makes the heroes honestly question if what they’re doing is right or not.
So...I think I have an idea on Shiguraki. It's inspired by a post on Reddit, but I differ from it a bit. The gist of this post was a theory on Shiguraki's hands. The idea is that all of the hands belong to people with powerful quirks who have been killed. The hands can potientially, one day, give Shiguraki the ability to use them like All For One does on a smaller scale. That's ludicrous though. People's hands don't contain the quirks. If you cut off Deku's hand, it won't destroy his quirk. But I do have three theories which are related. First, what if the hands are not actual hands, but recepticals? All For One embed them with powerful quirks so that Shiguraki can use them at will by activating them. Another theory I had is the idea that we haven't actually seen Shiguraki's true quirk. Basically, he has a quirk that can stockpile and borrow other people's quirks. Similar to that arrogant dude from class B. The last says All For One gave him a quirk like the one above or will give him it in the future. In either case, with different people's hands touching him, he can take their quirks. Even if they are dead. I mean, he doesn't get much out of hiding his crusty face. It didn't take much for him to be recognized. And so, the hands have to serve some purpose. Intimidation yes, but more than that. Bear in mind, we have never seen Shiguraki fight. Never. Not in the manga or the anime. The reasoning thus far is that his quirk is too dangerous. People are going to die if he fights. But he's also not terribly threatening on his own right now. Just keep him from touching you with his entire hand and you're golden. There are so many heroes we already know who could take him out. Izuku by virtue of his reflexes and speed, Todoroki, Bakugou, All Might, Momo, Kaminari, even friggin Mineta. Ranged attacks or quick attacks. Either would work. And it's not like Shiguraki is a super hulking guy. He doesn't seem particularly athletic, more lanky. Yes, he could just be the king piece, ordering people around.

I’d like to point out that when we first meet Shigaraki, he barely flakes some skin off of Eraserhead’s elbow. But when Overhaul attacks them, he instantly disintegrates a minion with a touch. And yes, I read the manga.

I'm so late this is so old, there a possibility that Shigaraki could become enlightened (in a sense) by the end of the series, once All for One is defeated and give up his villainy, thinking far ahead here... But I'd bet Shigaraki himself will have a hand in all for one's demise ...
This growth is really noticeable when in the fourth intro, we actually get a really intimidating shot of him walking confidently with an army of Nomus writhing around behind him. It's the first time that the camera tells us to respect him, and it's the episode after his talk with Miduriya at the mall.
Stain is the Revolutionary Villain. He's the one that even called out Shigtarki for not having a motivation. So you can see that Horikoshi could write great Villains before hand.
Stain is nothing revolutionary at all, FAR FROM IT. An anti-villain as he, dragged to a dark and horrible place by unyielding believes that twisted him, while still holding strongly to those beliefs in a way that can only inspire respect even if you disagree... is not really new? Not really common, but not rare either. Your attempt at proving your point does nothing more than reinforce Shigaraki's freshness. He's a manchild without much real motivation and thought when Stain talks with him, which HE SHOULD BE if he wants to be a minor nobody villain that actually grows into a bigger deal. And even Stain himself agrees - underneath all that, he has something that he shows when he got pushed to a wall, and he can respect that.
Major Lawliet what’s funny is everyone thinks Stain is super hardcore but nobody reads the spin-off manga where he was introduced as a hero basically. Only killing villains or something, and then he gets punched by knuckleduster and thinks he lost because his ideals were weak so he right on the spot changes hahaha. He had time to grow as well. He’s like late twenties mid thirties atleast. And shigaraki is still a teen, maybe 20 but no older.
I am not aware of just how much presence ILLEGALS has compared to the main series, but seeing how I took some time to even come across it, I don't doubt why it's not discussed a whole lot.
Major Lawliet it doesn’t have a big presence but it has the introduction of Stain, the quirk drug that’ll be introduced in season four, and three spin off characters. It’s a really good spin off, the main character is crawler but they call him creeper because laughs and he can slide on any surface as long as he has 3 points of contact. A pop idol who can fly or float or something, and the last guy is an old man, former cop I think who uses brass knuckles to beat the shit out of people. No quirk haha. It’s drawn well, and it’s canon so if look it up.

one thing i think was extremely fucking brave for horikoshi to do is make his end game antagonist of the show a bad saturday morning style villain. the very idea of him becoming a good villain and learning what is takes to be a criminal mastermind is one of the most interesting character development arcs i've ever seen.
this video opened my eyes to shigiraki, usually in manga/anime there’s always that huge villain that is basically the goal to defeat and the manga/anime ends with their defeat. with bnha i always thought that all for one was that villain but since he got defeated by all might so early on i was a little confused. now i see that shigiraki is the villain that will probably be defeated at the end. with deku becoming the #1 hero and shigiraki becoming the #1 villain i can see that the series will probs end with them.
I really liked how Shigaraki just went from liking to cause trouble because he wanted to be a villain like his father figure AFO and not really knowing what he was doing- to actually wanting to fight with purpose. And somewhat actually being understandable why he wants to kill the symbol of peace. The hero system is flawed and Shigaraki wanting to tear down that society and create one that is more like people just doing what they want and not relying on heroes to help them. Kind of an anarchist society where people have to think for themselves. They have to decide what they should do in a situation and not rely on a hero to make that decision for them. A society where people do what they want, rather than do what is expected of them. A society uninfluenced by others' opinions where the only opinion that matters is your own. I don't know if a society like that would work, but I could see why he may want something like that.
actually I also am amazed with All for One. He is a villain but he acts pretty much like a father figure to all of his underlings. He cares about them, I cant say for sure that its genuine (although I believe he does). It's such a refreshing thing to see a big villain not seeing his lackeys as expandable resources.

@@St0nek that's the beauty in writing a story....in season 4, for the growth sake of characters, they introduced zmillion as an already established hero for midoriya and overhaul as an already established villain for shigaraki....those characters were meant to let the main protagonist and antagonist to grow...
I've learned to love Shigaraki for the simple reason that you explained here. Like Izuku, Shigaraki is finding his own optimal way to fulfill his dream. They're the complete opposite of each other, and yet they act almost the same. Izuku is a master planner, but he doesn't realize where and when to use those plans yet. Shigaraki knows how to strike, but he almost never does so with a plan. *Yet.*
All of my problems with Boku no Hero Academias villains derives from the fact that the author never specifies their goals and motivations. Shigiraki wants to kill All Might. Okay, but why? Does he think that what All Might represents is evil and thus by destroying him he will be able to the destroy said evil? Or does he thing All Might himself should die? Stein kills the heroes because he percieves them as corrupt impostors, why? We're never given any examples, to the point where everything he says sounds like mad ramblings with no sense. Why did All For One become evil? We're never told. In fact one thing that bothers me is what the author said in the back pages of the manga: "I don't want to make them too likeable." What does that mean, no backstories? No clear motives? Being evil just for the sake of being evil? What the artist set himself was to write cookie cutter Sunday morning villains, that, as you said, only appear to throw a wrench in the heroes' plans. We don't know if they actually make a valid point or if they are completely delusional. Should we be entirely indifferent to them? That's boring. The villains are plain boring. There is nothing revolutionary about Shigiraki, he's as interesting as a roadkill. I respectfully disagree with this video. This is one crucial flaw in Boku no Hero Academia. I don't know, maybe there is something I'm not seeing. Maybe all will be explained later in the manga
If you want to see a similar character arc to Shigaraki's watch Fate/Zero. I won't spoil who, but there's a character that develops from apathy into pure unadulterated evil over the course of the series and it's actually extremely entertaining seeing how they get corrupted and start having desires. I'm not sure if Matt has seen Fate/Zero before, but if he hasn't he should.
You should analyse the first ti.e we saw him and how he was! I think he changed a whole lot. What was up with his neck scratching thing? And I think that over time he lost the weird hand design and just kept one on his face.
along with bakugo , shigaraki is one of my favorite thing about the show usually the big bad guy is some legend forshadowed by the characters or some behined the scene guy lurking here we get to see shigaraki grow on parallel with deku......so their last confortation will have more weight and impact
Shigaraki has evolved from "I want to kill All Might because I'm angry" to "I want to tear down the society that relies so much on heroes that people suffer more when those same heroes are nowhere to be found. Like when All Might wasn't there for me."
@Sam Cherry when i first saw shigaraki i immediately did not like him that much considering my most fav characters in the show is all might and midoriya but after i saw his character development and motives and his relationship between all for one i just got hooked.

After the post-credits scene of season 3 episode 12, I suddenly realized just what's going on here. He's literally being given a "hero's journey".
LOL Icon did you notice that the scene when all for one sends shigaraki away is the "hero is saved, but the mentor dies" trope? shigaraki is being given all the hero tropes, only twisted.
I'm not sure if the series is going to follow the ideology that villains believe that they are the heroes, but at least Stain has fit into that. All For One didn't feel very sympathetic, but Shigaraki might still have potential. The thing to keep in mind is that now that he's lost his mentor, in the hero's journey it shouldn't be long before we see him on the rise.

Like he encouraged shigaraki to keep trying after he failed, then made sure everyone got away safely before all might could go all out. I’m so used to seeing big bad villains not care about those below them that it was a refreshing surprise that he actually cared
You know, I could be wrong of course, but I don't neccessarily think AFO really...cared, in that sense at least. I thought of it like this: similar to Deku being All Might's successor, Shigaraki is AFO's, a villain with the potential and with careful guidance could prove to be a challenge if not even surpass the Symbol of Peace (All Might or perhaps Deku in the future). If something severe were to happem to Shigaraki (along with the supporting villains) his plans of overthrowing All Might as well as hero society etc could not really come to frutition.
All for One is pretty manipulative and grooming Shigaraki to become the opposite of what his very own rival's pupil is (Deku: Symbol of Peace, Shigaraki: Symbol of Evil), maybe I' reading too much into it but I think ifa threat of All Might's calibre were to directly harm Shigaraki, all his plans would go to waste so evacuating the area beforehand seemed logical enough.

He gives Shigaraki complete agency to come up with his own plans, take the lead and learn from his mistakes. And he is also there for him when he needs emotional and physical support. Its weird to say this but AFO is 10000 times a better father to Shigaraki than Endeavour is to Shoto... Hes a great parent figure Hahahaha
The bunch that he pulls out isn't just any bunch of low level lackeys though. Seems there's been some investment in this villain team that parallels those of the hero kids. If they're putting in an effort towards the underlying plans, then it'd be a waste to throw all that away. Not to mention abandonment might get some to go turn-coat, which would be a problem.
On the other hand, the Nomu seem pretty unintelligible and single minded, so those lab-grown mutants are the disposable minions despite being some of the strongest monsters for the heroes to go against.

nah I really prefer him to be this physically weak but DEADLY character. It will force him to be more tactful in how he fights deku. Possibly using meat shields, poising gas etc to win where as deku has to over come those odds.
Not exactly new to us Manga readers, but yes. Shigiraki's growth in parallel to Deku's has very likely been the plan the whole time. Personally, I rather like it. It's not an angle used much, in fact it's pretty rare. Plus the dynamic between him and All for One is awesome.
A villain the makes, and sticks to an organized plan is scary, true, one that actually cares about his underlings is more so imo.

I think the author tricked us when he introduced Shigaraki. All Might made him out to be a joker-type villain, being evil just for evil sake. I think he is the way he is because he got tired of people's hypocrisy. People create rules for themselves, morals to live by. These same people walked by while he was in need of help. I think he is wanting people to be free to be the people he believes they truly are, without morals, without rules.
Nathan Higgins all for one took a small fry and gave him a push and while protecting him he makes sure he becomes as strong as him and takes his place, just like all might did with Midoriya. Shigaraki's motives came little by little

yea in a way it was a joker influence, especially since they embody the same things and kinda have similar backstories, they both experience the extremes of injustice in their world, and being in a setting that heavily advocates the importance of justice (batman for the joker, and the hero society for shigaraki), they find the irony repulsive because of their own experience and swear to bring it all down with their own hands.
both of them were nobodies, "jokes" in the beginning of their arcs, but they took that hatred and used it as fuel to become a deadly force to anyone trying to stop them.

everyone here is focusing on who he defeated smh, the chapter where he starts caring for his allies is a better example of shigaraki's development.
Excellent video, Matt. Shigaraki it is very evident that Horikoshi made him to be akin to Deku. Someone learning to be evil. Shigaraki clearly has some major beef with hero society, a lot now teased in this season with All For One. But that's the thing; Shigaraki didn't have a purpose. He was as All Might and everyone said, a "man child" in that he was lashing out without any convictions. heck, Midoriya calls out Shigaraki's cowardice at USJ when contrasting him with Stain. And it is there that Shigaraki understands. That everything he was doing even under All For One's guidance was aimless and unfocused. He needed a goal to focus on; something that would drive him to be do better. Killing the symbol of peace is that goal. Combined with him becoming less angry, I can say I genuinely love Shigaraki as an antagonist.
Also, Matt what I will say is when Season 4 of MHA the series take such a cool turn that it really blows me away at how good it is without spoilers.

I'd say the manga actually excels at some things better than the anime, yet the anime still surprises manga readers with fights and extra scenes (for example, the next episode stuff with yaoyorozu and todoroki during hero license exam is completely anime only) so I don't think you should worry too much about getting the shock factor being lost. Or at the very least, read the manga chapters until where the anime is at, the comedic timing is generally better in the manga and some of the translations by fans are pretty interesting and add to the story more than the official ones are

I like how Shigaraki just stumbles into people following him due to Stain yet he doesn't just tell them off or roll with it, he tries to understand via a session with Dr. Deku no less, cause apparently he's everyone therapist, why they're so into Stain and not him.
It was hilarious, creepy, kind of scary and neat. I loved it.
You perfectly described the experience with Shigaraki for many thoughtful viewers. When I first saw him he was so blunt and pale, the only thing that characterized him was his insanity and wish for the destruction (like so many others washed-up villains). It really hard to take seriously the man that wears pajamas as his casual outfit. But it was only because we didn't know the intentions of Horikoshi - to make the main villain grow alongside the main hero. And it's so fascinating, it's such a rare situation. From my head I can name only one another example - Zuko from Avatar, but even then Zuko and Shigaraki is nothing alike, I'm sure Horikoshi will take different route with him.
To create such a deranged and marginalized character and then make him learn and grow... I can't wait to see how Midoria and Shigaraki relationships will play out in the future.

Everyone didn't seem to look at him as a rising villain. He's _learning_ . And you see... He's getting less help than Midoriya's getting in his hero development - relying most of the time in his own judgment and wits. One must see he didn't come 'done' to us. We're seeing the process, the progress, the birth of what may be the next most important villain in the whole series. Y'all just want strong 'STAIN' villains right away, because that's what you're *used to* .
Don't forget he has a parallel development to Midoriya. And that is what make him so interesting.

DogeKing 666 That I believe is Horikoshi fascination with hands. He's admitted in multiple interviews that he loves drawing hands and hands for those adept at drawing, are often the hardest thing to draw. Just knowing that makes me look at the series a lot more differently.

Shigaraki is interesting because of his growth. AFO is clearly acting in such a way as to cultivate him and their relationship exactly mirrors deku and all might's. Shigaraki is developing from a rotton (but victimized) child throwing tantrums into a scheming and jaded adult, who in turn challenges Deku's ideals. His relationship with midoriya is important because they develope off of each other, so without exchanging many words, each character is an obstacle for the other to overcome.
It's still somewhat shallow and needs more development but we can clearly see where it is going, and it's will be quite exciting the next time they properly confront each other.

I've always loved Shigaraki's character because of how
interesting he is. I would like to heard more on his past.
The title should be "Why Shigaraki MIGHT become a revolutionary villain", because the way the current title reads comes across as very matter of fact, which is not the case at all.
Saying he's becoming a good villain is all well and good, but implying that he's already a revolutionary villain solely from the fact he learns, is definitely a stretch. Beside that, this was a really good video.
Sorry that you MIGHT be annoyed by this but no I think I made a valid argument so I'm keeping it.
Shigaraki is definitely different from most villains, especially in Shonen standards.
But you literally say "quite possibly" before saying revolutionary villain towards the end of the video, which has more or less the same implication as saying he MIGHT become a revolutionary villain.
Also, one of your main arguments for why his ability to learn is what makes him revolutionary is that you've never seen any other villain before do that. Well, given that, who's to say any other anime villain hasn't done this before, that you may not be aware of. And even if this isn't the case, I could easily say that another anime villains are revolutionary because I've never seen any other villain do what they did before. Again, I find it to be a bold claim for something that while still very good, is still somewhat subjective.
Another point I want to make is that while yes, his ability to learn from the protagonist is a very good, and I'll admit rather a unique character trait for a villain to have, this doesn't make Shigaraki's new found ideals any more impressive. Even you said in the video that their still not the most powerful ideals, and the way he comes to gain his ideals, are still kinda weak in comparison to other villains, like Stains and just other anime villains in general. One idea I thought would have been interesting, that I'm surprised this anime hasn't touched upon yet, is the discrimination of people based on their quirks, and that some parts of society believe that some quirks make the individual inherently evil. And given Shigaraki's quirk, and that we know he's been abandoned, it would be interesting if that became his motivation for wanting to kill All Might. Wanting to destroy the symbol of peace and justice for a society that doesn't reflect it in themselves.
The last point I wanted to make, is that even if it does become the case that Shigaraki does become a revolutionary villain, I would have I thought a video like this would come out a bit later into the anime, when there is slightly more to go off on, as in what he actively does with what he learns, instead of making the statement solely based of the fact he's a villain shaped by the protagonist. We've already seen the beggings of Deku's hero journey, but we've only seen started to see the beginning of Shigaraki's villain journey. One for All said it himself. He still has much to learn.
I'll be honest, I didn't want to make a big deal out of something so little, and as much as I am lovely season 3 of MHA, I found a lot of RUclipsr's give both first and second season a bit too much credit than I think they deserved, and I don't want this trend to return for the third season to, before it's even halfway done.

"Revolutionary" might be a bit of a stretch. The concept of a villain progressing alongside the protagonist while still retaining their villainy isn't super common, but it's not exactly new. Viral from Gurren Lagann is a good example of this (before the timeskip, at least). The tricky thing about a video like this is that Shigaraki's journey isn't over yet, so while someone like Viral does eventually join up with the heroes as part of his overall arc, there's no way of knowing where Shigaraki will end up. He could potentially end up the same way. We don't know since the story isn't over. He's certainly an interesting character, perhaps one of the show's most interesting characters, but I think it's a little early to call him "revolutionary." (I only say this because I've made similar mistakes in my own videos when it comes to making overly broad claims without enough supporting evidence to back it up)
(I'm sure there are better examples than Viral out there, but that's all I could think of at the moment. I guess, to a lesser extent, Meruem from Hunter X Hunter has a similar character arc going on (starts off just attacking randomly but eventually develops a purpose to act upon), although that's during a single arc rather than an entire series (I mean...the chimera ant arc is actually longer than the amount of Hero Aca material you're covering here, and Gon has his own mini-arc in that section of the story...). Okay, so the dynamics of the two aren't quite the same, but they're similar enough that I'm still going to call bullshit on your Meruem video again lol. Mathwiz97X I’d say it’s more refreshing rather than revolutionary. As you mentioned, when villains grow as characters and their beliefs evolve its almost always towards being good. Seeing a villain do the opposite, grow as a person and in their beliefs in order to be a better villain, usually doesn’t happen. Or if it does, it’s not so obviously meant to parallel the main protagonist’s journey.
I'm all caught up on One Piece but its been such a long time since Blackbeard has made an appearance I totally forgot about him or what he's about. He does have a lot of similarities with Luffy. I'd say the big difference is that both Luffy and Blackbeard already have fully formed beliefs on the core themes of One Piece (Freedom and friendship) prior to ever meeting and don't really change each other's beliefs and don't really have their beliefs changed by anyone else. Blackbeard is still a great villain, but more because he has an incredibly different interpretation of the same core beliefs held by Luffy.
Donquixote Doflamingo Fair enough. I think it depends more on what kind of story you like. One Piece is a much more grand story with a massive, I’d say Tolkien level, amount of development put into the world itself, but with a much looser unifying theme. There are a lot of moving pieces and each have their own motivations. MHA is much more tightly condensed and single minded story asking a single question: “What is a hero?” I think both villains are great for their respective stories, but which you like more might come down to which kind of story you like more.
I'd agree with most of that. I don't think fights need to be long to be good, but I agree that the Stain fight and Deku vs. The most recent villain were really good, and mostly because they went through distinct phases and had interesting fight dynamics. I'd say the Overhaul arc was overall the weakest arc thus far, but I think it was more meant to develop Shigaraki and the League of Villains as opposed to Deku (although the Kirishima development was awesome). I wish it had been much shorter though.

Shigaraki is a child. These staging are like him maturing. Shigaraki would have made Bakugo crumble to dust like the farts of and 90 year old woman. But he puts up with it, going with the plan. Insane
I really dig your style. You've got a defined look, something that people immediately will see and hear and know "That's Manime Matt!", and I think that works extremely well. The biggest thing I like is the look. I'm a sucker for minimalist and light colors, and your videos are really easy on the eyes as a result. There's clearly time and effort put into making these, and it shows. Your audio is quite nice as well, and combined it creates a really pleasant experience. In fact, when there's clips being shown your work really speaks to a high level. This video is a great example, and as a result it looks damn fine!
The only problem comes from when screenshots/images are used.
So there's a few segments in this that really popped at me. They're probably not going to with the average individual, since the visuals are just an accompanying piece, but I'm rather big into the visual element as well and these things really distracted me. I've also noticed them across numerous different videos as well, as I wanted to check if this was just a one off, so I hope you don't mind me getting into a bit of detail with them. Such as at 0:37 we end up with jagged edges, which are unfortunately highlighted greatly by the blue background. At 0:49 we end up with a low quality image enlarged. However, the biggest notice of the variation of quality in images is at 1:36. This becomes really hard to ignore, and is incredibly distracting as well.
While my content is far from perfect, and I entirely understand with a limited quantity of time and resources, I can't help but to feel that these products really bring down the overall quality of your content. Which is really strong, to be perfectly honest. Some of them even come across as just half assed, or even worse just plain lazy. Especially since there's methods out there of image enlargement without losing quality (waifu 2x for a quick method, or RUclips search How to Enlarge Image 500% without Quality Loss in Photoshop if it's available to you) but I personally would recommend using an entirely different image that maintains a consistent quality with the ones you are using. Extractions an issue? Take the time to learn the Pen tool if possible or spend a bit of time really getting acquainted with the lasso as well. A good extraction goes a long way in presentation, and also will look much better enlarged. It's quite strange to see you put such time and effort into the video production end, but on the image end have them be so low end. If you find yourself in a position where that ends up happening, in most cases it's better to not use an image at all than to use one that really throws off the balance of the whole video.
I hope you don't mind my words, as I do not mean any offense or to be disrespectful. I just personally feel that if you were to nail down the entirety of your production, you'd really be hitting a whole new level. Especially with the quality of work you're already producing! I just feel that the images really bring down the hard work you put into your product, and does a disservice to some serious quality content.

I’m glad you’ve come to this conclusion. I usually only see Tomura getting hate, but I always thought there was a huge potential with him, and since the Season 2 finale, we’re seeing that. Having him realize what it is he wants to accomplish and his path to villainy actively during the show makes him one of my favorite villains ever.
I even thought about making a video myself, despite that not being my thing, because it didn’t seem like anyone else appreciated this. Especially today, something most people tend to forget is that “simple =/= bad”. But you articulated it here better than I probably would, so props.
He’s taking initiative as a villain but still seeks guidance and he’s learning to be more of his own. I love it. Even in the opening of season 3 he’s reaching out to him but then learns to walk on his own and guides the leave of villains mmm I love it

I am not sure if this is something that much revolutionary as you make it out to be, but I do definitely agree that I feel like I've grown to enjoy seeing Shigaraki much more nowadays than I did in season 1 where he didn't seem that interesting to me.
I myself am, for a year already in fact, on the search for and writing down a few character "designs" or like.. base motives .. for me to use once I do some cringey furry comic.
And I had a lot of things written down that I later on, when I started watching My Hero Academia, also found in Shigaraki.
And, because I myself was pretty proud of how this antagonist I had made was something super cool and new and awesome, I now, even if I can't use him anymore cause people would call him a rip-off, am excited to see how it'll go along in mha at least... Idk...
My issue with the MHA villains in general is that they’re just evil because they want to be evil.
What we really need is a villain that has a point, a point that makes the heroes honestly question if what they’re doing is right or not.

Yea , I was very surprised when Shigaraki didn't atack Bakugo
So...I think I have an idea on Shiguraki. It's inspired by a post on Reddit, but I differ from it a bit.
The gist of this post was a theory on Shiguraki's hands. The idea is that all of the hands belong to people with powerful quirks who have been killed. The hands can potientially, one day, give Shiguraki the ability to use them like All For One does on a smaller scale.
That's ludicrous though. People's hands don't contain the quirks. If you cut off Deku's hand, it won't destroy his quirk.
But I do have three theories which are related. First, what if the hands are not actual hands, but recepticals? All For One embed them with powerful quirks so that Shiguraki can use them at will by activating them.
Another theory I had is the idea that we haven't actually seen Shiguraki's true quirk. Basically, he has a quirk that can stockpile and borrow other people's quirks. Similar to that arrogant dude from class B.
The last says All For One gave him a quirk like the one above or will give him it in the future. In either case, with different people's hands touching him, he can take their quirks. Even if they are dead.
I mean, he doesn't get much out of hiding his crusty face. It didn't take much for him to be recognized. And so, the hands have to serve some purpose. Intimidation yes, but more than that.
Bear in mind, we have never seen Shiguraki fight. Never. Not in the manga or the anime. The reasoning thus far is that his quirk is too dangerous. People are going to die if he fights. But he's also not terribly threatening on his own right now. Just keep him from touching you with his entire hand and you're golden. There are so many heroes we already know who could take him out. Izuku by virtue of his reflexes and speed, Todoroki, Bakugou, All Might, Momo, Kaminari, even friggin Mineta. Ranged attacks or quick attacks. Either would work. And it's not like Shiguraki is a super hulking guy. He doesn't seem particularly athletic, more lanky.
Yes, he could just be the king piece, ordering people around.

I’d like to point out that when we first meet Shigaraki, he barely flakes some skin off of Eraserhead’s elbow. But when Overhaul attacks them, he instantly disintegrates a minion with a touch. And yes, I read the manga.

I ADORE this part of MHA its so rare we get to see a villain activly learn and develope and i am freaking stoked to see where it goes in the future.
This growth is really noticeable when in the fourth intro, we actually get a really intimidating shot of him walking confidently with an army of Nomus writhing around behind him. It's the first time that the camera tells us to respect him, and it's the episode after his talk with Miduriya at the mall.
I like the idea of Him a next generation villain that grows usually the villains are already matured when we see them so this is a Nice change of pace
Stain is the Revolutionary Villain. He's the one that even called out Shigtarki for not having a motivation. So you can see that Horikoshi could write great Villains before hand.
Stain is nothing revolutionary at all, FAR FROM IT.
An anti-villain as he, dragged to a dark and horrible place by unyielding believes that twisted him, while still holding strongly to those beliefs in a way that can only inspire respect even if you disagree... is not really new? Not really common, but not rare either.
Your attempt at proving your point does nothing more than reinforce Shigaraki's freshness. He's a manchild without much real motivation and thought when Stain talks with him, which HE SHOULD BE if he wants to be a minor nobody villain that actually grows into a bigger deal. And even Stain himself agrees - underneath all that, he has something that he shows when he got pushed to a wall, and he can respect that.
Major Lawliet what’s funny is everyone thinks Stain is super hardcore but nobody reads the spin-off manga where he was introduced as a hero basically. Only killing villains or something, and then he gets punched by knuckleduster and thinks he lost because his ideals were weak so he right on the spot changes hahaha. He had time to grow as well. He’s like late twenties mid thirties atleast. And shigaraki is still a teen, maybe 20 but no older.
I am not aware of just how much presence ILLEGALS has compared to the main series, but seeing how I took some time to even come across it, I don't doubt why it's not discussed a whole lot.
Major Lawliet it doesn’t have a big presence but it has the introduction of Stain, the quirk drug that’ll be introduced in season four, and three spin off characters. It’s a really good spin off, the main character is crawler but they call him creeper because laughs and he can slide on any surface as long as he has 3 points of contact. A pop idol who can fly or float or something, and the last guy is an old man, former cop I think who uses brass knuckles to beat the shit out of people. No quirk haha. It’s drawn well, and it’s canon so if look it up.
Stain is an inferior version and poorly handled Garou (from OPM)

one thing i think was extremely fucking brave for horikoshi to do is make his end game antagonist of the show a bad saturday morning style villain. the very idea of him becoming a good villain and learning what is takes to be a criminal mastermind is one of the most interesting character development arcs i've ever seen.
this video opened my eyes to shigiraki, usually in manga/anime there’s always that huge villain that is basically the goal to defeat and the manga/anime ends with their defeat. with bnha i always thought that all for one was that villain but since he got defeated by all might so early on i was a little confused. now i see that shigiraki is the villain that will probably be defeated at the end. with deku becoming the #1 hero and shigiraki becoming the #1 villain i can see that the series will probs end with them.
I really liked how Shigaraki just went from liking to cause trouble because he wanted to be a villain like his father figure AFO and not really knowing what he was doing- to actually wanting to fight with purpose. And somewhat actually being understandable why he wants to kill the symbol of peace. The hero system is flawed and Shigaraki wanting to tear down that society and create one that is more like people just doing what they want and not relying on heroes to help them. Kind of an anarchist society where people have to think for themselves. They have to decide what they should do in a situation and not rely on a hero to make that decision for them. A society where people do what they want, rather than do what is expected of them. A society uninfluenced by others' opinions where the only opinion that matters is your own. I don't know if a society like that would work, but I could see why he may want something like that.
I love Shigaraki so much and really hope he gets a happy ending somehow....

He is a villain but he acts pretty much like a father figure to all of his underlings.
He cares about them, I cant say for sure that its genuine (although I believe he does). It's such a refreshing thing to see a big villain not seeing his lackeys as expandable resources.

@@St0nek that's the beauty in writing a story....in season 4, for the growth sake of characters, they introduced zmillion as an already established hero for midoriya and overhaul as an already established villain for shigaraki....those characters were meant to let the main protagonist and antagonist to grow...

I've learned to love Shigaraki for the simple reason that you explained here. Like Izuku, Shigaraki is finding his own optimal way to fulfill his dream. They're the complete opposite of each other, and yet they act almost the same. Izuku is a master planner, but he doesn't realize where and when to use those plans yet. Shigaraki knows how to strike, but he almost never does so with a plan. *Yet.*

All of my problems with Boku no Hero Academias villains derives from the fact that the author never specifies their goals and motivations. Shigiraki wants to kill All Might. Okay, but why? Does he think that what All Might represents is evil and thus by destroying him he will be able to the destroy said evil? Or does he thing All Might himself should die? Stein kills the heroes because he percieves them as corrupt impostors, why? We're never given any examples, to the point where everything he says sounds like mad ramblings with no sense. Why did All For One become evil? We're never told.
In fact one thing that bothers me is what the author said in the back pages of the manga:
"I don't want to make them too likeable."
What does that mean, no backstories? No clear motives? Being evil just for the sake of being evil? What the artist set himself was to write cookie cutter Sunday morning villains, that, as you said, only appear to throw a wrench in the heroes' plans. We don't know if they actually make a valid point or if they are completely delusional. Should we be entirely indifferent to them? That's boring. The villains are plain boring. There is nothing revolutionary about Shigiraki, he's as interesting as a roadkill. I respectfully disagree with this video. This is one crucial flaw in Boku no Hero Academia.

If you want to see a similar character arc to Shigaraki's watch Fate/Zero. I won't spoil who, but there's a character that develops from apathy into pure unadulterated evil over the course of the series and it's actually extremely entertaining seeing how they get corrupted and start having desires.
I'm not sure if Matt has seen Fate/Zero before, but if he hasn't he should.
You should analyse the first ti.e we saw him and how he was! I think he changed a whole lot. What was up with his neck scratching thing? And I think that over time he lost the weird hand design and just kept one on his face.
Now the real question is where does All for One fit in? Is it just a game for him or what does he want?
