Loved this episode. We are also OKW 1993 members and so much of what Rob mentioned resonated with me (Commodore House, park passes, valet parking, complicated banking rules, how small BWV rooms seemed after OKW). I didn't remember the peach linens but I'm still sad they took away the mismatched tableware too. We will be 3 generations in a Grand Villa at OKW this summer thanks to our added resale points. (Only our 2nd time ever in a GV)

I thoroughly enjoyed this episode. Rob adds such an interesting touch to the show! We love his knowledge and history of DVC! And I would’ve love to have been one of his kids growing up at Disney like this! I was in my 30’s the first time I went to Disney and pray my children, mainly my youngest since the others are grown, can say they grew up this way ❤ Great episode!

Great episode. We are members at DBCV and have been since 2002. We have only stated there twice (it books up incredibly fast). We have also stayed at OKW, HHI, DWLV, DBV, AKL-Jambo House, SSR, BLT, and Riviera. Can’t beat OKW for room size, the two bedroom villas have more square footage than my house. SSR is our least favorite, not just because it’s isolated from the theme parks, but also the air con has always had issues (someone always gets sick and my youngest got pneumonia once).
As far as perks, we got two perks but were only good for our first stay. We received 3 nights at any resort on Walt Disney World property and length of stay passes for our first stay at DBCV (included the three days at the other resort as well), we stayed for 10 days total.
Even though many things at Disney World are very expensive, DVC has paid for itself. We haven’t had “addonitis” yet, but we don’t have grandkids yet.😁

My husband & I bought our first contract at Old Key West in Aug 1997. We added on at Villas of Wilderness (Boulder Ridge) , Saratoga Springs and Bay Lake Tower. We closed 3 of our contracts at Doorway to Dreams at Woodfield in Schaumburg outside of Chicago. I’m positive that we met Derek there. We used to visit Doorway to Dreams just to get updates and talk to the cast members there.
My husband passed away and last year I decided to sell my OKW & BR points as I had too many for just myself, we did not have children and I have no family left. I kept to use for bringing my friends trips & BLT for my solo trips.
We used our points at Grand Californian a few times, Disneyland Paris Hotel, Aulani and yes Disney Cruises.. yes I know not the best use of points .
This was a great show today!!!

Member since April of 1992. Additional perk included the OKW bus stops at the theme parks were the closest to the park entrances. Also, the member socials at OKW twice a week. Hot wings, various snacks and beverages, at no cost to members. Rob mentioned the small photo album gift when you entered your room. These ¨Ẅelcome Home¨ gifts included the photo albums, DVC Coins, and various Christmas ornaments. Not to mention periodically, various gifts arriving in the mail. (beach bag, collector pins)

OMG, Derek, nostalgia here, when you said “sign by Mickey and date by palm tree”. I only have been member since 2007 but I have all bags with all those logo. also remember getting the heavy mail with all the documents in it and thru this day, I have to keep all my documents

I have an RCI timeshare, and they make you pay your dues for next year before you are allowed to borrow them. Disney allows you to borrow points you haven't paid for yet, which is nice.

Rob, it was great to see you on the DVC show! Is OKW the only resort you’ve ever stayed at or have you tried others?
We have been OKW members since 1997 and have tried other WDW resorts in the past, but Old Key West is the only one that feels like home!

My first cruise was on the big red boat! Grew up staying at the Polynesian and first trip it was $89/night during Easter break. Shifted to moderates once they existed. My parents bought Poly resale years later and still say they should have bought year one. We visited every year or two.

Very interesting history. We all wish we knew to purchase then. Real Estate in Florida actually went DOWN from 90 to 2000’s. Now it’s back up but a lot of people sold early 2000’s due to the $700 one way airline tickets to Florida during all school vacation breaks that lasted for years.

This episode made me feel so much better! Listening to ALL THE CHANGES over the years! Wow! I have lost perks I absolutely loved, but at the end of the day, I bought a pre-paid vacation at my favorite place on earth! As always, and as this video shows, my biggest regret in buying DVCRESALE..... is not buying sooner!!!

I was at DisneyWorld when the hurricane came through. My children were 4 and 8. We had bought 5 day passes from AAA and were able to make 2 trips because the passes never expired. We did have to make the second trip before my daughter aged out of a child’s ticket.

I would love a financial analysis for the other stockholders of DVC - ie Disney on the direct side, and the listing agencies on the resale side. Why are they involved in the business from a financial perspective, what are the various revenue streams, and sources of cost. How does it compare to the typical vacation model and travel agent proceeds. Lotta videos on doing the math on the consumer side, curious how the other parties make out.

DVC is the bitcoin of Disney. If ya got in early ya woulda raked it in, but it was definitely not a given back then. Also think bitcoin is gonna expire in 2042 ;)
