We have 3 contracts, all with December, and we feel like we are always ahead of the game. Don’t get me wrong, we only have Dec bc our first contract but it’s seemed to work out. Worst part is paying those dues in January but not getting points until December, however we just received our 22 points and it’s almost 23. We already have them booked bc you have access to next year’s points. “As of today” point that Paul touched on is exactly the point. Probably the most important thing is when your banking window falls and that’s based on the use year. Which for December is the end of July. If you travel from Dec-July then you can cancel and bank those points. Anything after July that is cancel would have to be used or lost at the end of November.
30:51 I do wait list all the time but then again, my stays are usually Sunday through Wednesday and typically off season.... So I've even had value rooms filled
Use year is definitely more confusing the first yea when you buy direct. Because you get the current year's points immediately, and then get more points at your actual use year.
Just had our akl value studio waitlist come through for January. We’ve been lucky to have 3/4 waitlist request go through so far since we started trying it out a few trips ago.
I have a December use year. It works for me (summer vacations) but it's so confusing when trying to deeming how many points I have for a given time period. If I had to do over I would choose a Feb use year.
Just had an offer accepted for a Dec use year and it’s now going through ROFR. I am so confused what this means since points load in December. Does this mean I have a month to use those points before they need to be banked?
@@knik7029 pretty sure you have until 4 months before the end of your Use Year to either use then or book a stay using them, or else bank them. So you’ll have 8 months from Dec 1 to use or book a stay using all your 2022 points ….if you still have any points at end of those 8 months, so July 31, 2023, you either need to book something to use them before Dec 1, 2023, before that Use Year ends (which nowadays is almost impossible to book anything inside of 4 months from date of booking) or bank them into your next Use Year.
@@knik7029 you have 8 months from when the points are awarded (deposited) . the page on "points" in the DVC vacation club website will help you keep it straight
I think graphics on use year would be helpful! thanks for what you guys do, I'm probably 2+ years away from getting a contract but I like to be informed and you guys do a great job
Counted 29 times you collectively said “use year” (might have actually been an even 30 I think I missed 1) in the 7minutes leading up to when you put out the counting challenge….😂 so yeah definitely do a full show on it with physical buckets and even a “banking” window. Full on teacher mode Amy!
I bought Rivera in 2021 and had no idea what the resale restrictions are on our contract. We bought direct and am not very concerned. Where can I see the video that talks about riviera restrictions.
Question, if you buy points at multiple resorts, say one contract at Poly and the other contract at GF, would you have to pay both resorts annual maintenance fees? Second question, if you buy two contracts at the same home resort, would you only have to pay the annual maintenance fees once?
I'm surprised your guide did not offer any information regarding the Riviera restriction. Our guide, Randy Kruger, spelled out every little charge to expect, when to expect them and of course, the Riviera restrictions since that is where we added on. Randy knows we know our way around DVC, but still made sure he mentioned every little item with the caveat, I know you know, but please remember.....
I fully understand my own use year, September which works great because I usually travel in Sep, Oct or Jan. BUT I don’t understand how to manage multiple use years! I waited a long time for the perfect Sep use year contract on resale to stick with the same use year and I probably didn’t need to but need advice for next time on how to use multiple year strategy
I believe that having multiple use years will also give you multiple member numbers. We use the points in one of our use years to book at 11 months at one specific resort, our other use year points for all the other resorts. I believe points from different member numbers can be combined, but we haven't tried that, as yet. It seems, to me, to be easier if you can stick with one use year.
I would love a show about use year. I like to think about points and use year like planning a paycheck. At the 11 month window I “budget” my points by booking a reservation. I actually receive the “income/cash” when my use year starts, and I don’t actually spend it until my check in date. This is just an easier way for me to rationalize it and hope it may help someone else!
I believe DVC will be changing over to Interval International Exchange from RCI. For January of next year. You may want to do a show about the change over. Talk about the positives and negatives for this change over. You may want to make sure to talk about the three month booking window. How it can be a great deal for DVC members. I know your company talked about RCI awhile back on one of your past shows. You just forgot to mention the 3 month booking window discount.
@@YamKriegs Will you be doing an update? For the new DVC International Exchange Company. I will have to join Interval International Exchange. That is the only way I can exchange my WorldMark Timeshare in to DVC. I am a California Resident. I usually use my Anaheim WorldMark Timeshare. I have about a 7 minute Uber/Lyft drive in to the main entrance to Disneyland, California.
I'd be curious as to what the interest rate is for mortgages on timeshares right now given the fed hike and all. Is it the same as a mortgage or more like a credit card.
Panda’s volume was so much more loud than the Kriegers. I kept having to turn my volume up and down. I hope you can coordinate and balance all the speakers sounds/volume.
Just curious for you guys that live down there why do you bother buying direct It doesn't seem like there's any benefit specifically other than going to a occasional party. You already get a discount on food and and merge from your annual passes which you also get a discount on because your residence I can't figure out why you wouldn't want that huge savings for resale? Thanks
Panda, exactly what happened to me. ALL Virtual, missed that personal touch, especially because we paid in full. Question: we are not Florida Residents, but since we have property now with DVC are we entitled to get an annual pass as a Floridian
I would love you guys to do a show on use year. Also, tell the members how they can buy up to 24 points every year to add onto their trip if they don’t have enough points for a steal of $19 a point. They don’t get to keep them lol just use them if they need more for there trip. I do it every year Love you guys
How do you surprise someone with a contract being names need to be on the deed. I assume you do everything under your name and then amend everything afterwards? Is that a difficult process?
I know what a use year, and "get it" at a high level. But I also find it somewhat confusing, especially having one later in the year (October) and figuring out when to bank and planning trips around those timeframes and deadlines. I almost wish DVC contracts were as straightforward as dues. Everything starts fresh in January :-)
Would love a show in use year and banking / borrowing rules My ex Sept use year . Banked 100 from 2022 Borrowed 200 from 2024 For Dec 2023 If I cancel my reservation (before 30 days) I should have my banked 100 and my borrowed 200 to use by sept 2024 And my 2023 points should all be bankable Confused yet?
joined in '97 was well worth it with the kids being little, some good times but was DVC members I feel like we are being treated like red headed step children. As DVC members we should get priority seating but not any more. I would never purchase points again.
Why does he keep referring to DVC as a condo association? This is the furthest thing from a condo. This is closer to a car lease, where at the end of your lease, you have exactly what you started with. Nothing. At least with a condo, you can sell it for a better price than you paid for it.
Am I missing something? I see a lot of questions requesting a video just on use year, but isn't that already here from a year ago: ruclips.net/video/V5ovodjVaQQ/видео.html
I would love an entire show based on use years with extra attention given to December:) Thank you so much for all of your great content!

Yes! Please make a comprehensive show on use year that is clear as though you were explaining it to a five year old!
Stayed for our 39th anniversary in October. Was upgraded to a club suite with access to the lounge. Very nice resort only stay!!
We just sold off the last of our DVC points after 20 years. When it turned from magic to aggravation, it was time to let it go.
We purchased i 2001 and we are looking at dumping them too.
Yeah it really doesn’t look attractive these days.

Lord, YES please do a show focusing on use year, banking and borrowing! 😀
I agree with panda. We need an entire show devoted to use year. So confusing 😵💫
The first weekend in December (this past weekend), Target always has a 10% gift card sale and includes Disney!

And thank you Paul for not wearing that distracting baseball cap with the ridiculously over-bent rim.😂🤣
