As a father of 3 the time after my kids are asleep is like gold. I would pay anything for a fireworks view so I can watch while they’re asleep without having to leave the room.

I appreciate that Panda brought up the 'style' of vacation when discussing room view decisions. It depends on the type of vacation I'm taking as to whether I'm willing to pay extra points for a specific location or view. Boardwalk is a great example. I stayed at Boardwalk once specifically to enter Epcot for the Food and Wine Festival. I picked a standard view because I spent so much time in Epcot on that trip. On the flip side, I paid the extra points for a theme park view at Bay Lake Tower when my kids were younger so we could see the fireworks without navigating the crowds.

Totally agree. If I have park plans every day, then chances are no view is going to be worth it. But if it's a slower trip, then maybe it will be.

New DVC owner (RR), as of yesterday,. I really appreciate this type of discussion. This group sharing their combined knowledge and perspective is very helpful to a Disney Resort newbie like myself. A lot of good nuggets provided within, so thank you! If nothing else, you just saved me a handful of points bypassing the Preferred View at RR for our next trip. We are a family with 2 girls, ages 8 and 6. I stress over every detail to ensure they get maximum enjoyment out of the experiences. At the end of the day, they don't usually care much for another fireworks show because they have likely seen them several times at the park. So unless it's a Savannah View or a Boardwalk view (if we ever stay there), I think we will maximize saving our points over all else. Love the content...keep up the great work!

For Riviera, I will say that it is nice to have a water view, as well as a view of the Skyliner. And the sunrises and sunsets are beautiful. Very reminiscent of a BLT lake view, or a pool/garden view at any other resort.
The standard view is also reminiscent of BLT's theme park view - parking lot by day, but views of Epcot in the distance and fireworks by night.
I've gotten both. When I want to relax on my balcony for an extended stay, I like the preferred view. When I want to save points, I book standard. We are not always in our room during fireworks, so while it's nice to catch them once or twice, it's not necessary to book a room just for fireworks views.

I hear ya, Derek, on the balcony angle. Love them! Favorite thing to do at WDW, sit on the balcony/porch and hear the sounds of morning starting. And the 'standard' view at GF is considered a garden view.

This was one of your best episodes ever! I really loved getting all of your perspectives on which rooms you would choose. Please do more shows like this for 1-bedrooms!!! We are Riviera owners and sometimes we choose the preferred view and sometimes we don't. It depends on who we are bringing or the purpose of the trip. If we are spending more time at the resort then the preferred view is worth it to us. Or if we choose a studio room, we will then choose the preferred view vs a 1-bedroom with a standard view. If we lived near the parks and went more often we would probably choose standard views to get as many night's stays as possible but since we come about 3X a year we sometimes use our points for the beautiful view!

As always, loved todays content. I’ve now stayed at almost all the WDW deluxe resorts with the exception of Riviera. I wouldn’t want to spend my own points at Saratoga or OKW, but I appreciated going for 1-2 nights on someone else’s points. I now want to upgrade my spring break Boardwalk trip to a Boardwalk view, but I am sure that will be hard to get. Polynesian is my favorite resort, and I’ve stayed in a standard room on all my stays here. I’m not sure I want to spend the extra points on lake view but I would love to just to see the difference. I’m also pretty sure I need Derek’s lamp 😂 Thanks for all you guys do! We love the show! Amy and Paul, you do a great job, and we love it when Derek, Panda and Jeff join in!

I’ve done the lake view at poly and it’s a coin toss. First floor is terrible because of the bungalows. The rest are great. We are flipping the coin this new years and hopefully will have an amazing fireworks view from the room without walking out

As an owner at Bay Lake Tower, availability and not your preference will, most likely, decide whether or not you can book a Standard View. When we bought in, we initially purchased 200pts as that would get us 2 full weeks in a Standard Studio during our preferred travel period. Our first three trips were all booked at the 11-month mark and we were only able to book a Standard View once. On our third trip we added on another 50pts so we could book 2 full weeks in a Lake View.

This is my thought. The date they picked down plays the value since weekends are closer between categories. As example for late May /early June trip it’s 10 pts standard vs 16 pts boarwalk for weekeday.

We had an Island Garden view at Aulani overlooking the Luau. Loved it and would book it again. Big Pine Key studios are bigger than deluxe studio at VGF but my wait lists keep coming through so I haven't been in either room myself yet. I don't pay for the lake view at Poly since we always have ended up behind a palm tree. Even on second and third floor the palms are often in the way. So, we request Tokelua facing pool.

17:09 with us because we're usually traveling with our 19 yr old autistic son, we almost always get a one-bedroom Villa. Also we always go from Sunday through Wednesday. So if we are going on the week of our wedding anniversary, (in Oct) we're talking about 21 extra points for that Boardwalk view. Every once in a while we will buy some extra one time use points and do it, but not always. As for the pool garden view I don't think that is worth it. Honestly I don't even see how that's the same number of points.

  • @tutuluvsminnie7129

We prefer the Boardwalk view rooms at the BWV as we love the lake view in the early morning with our coffee on the balcony and love to watch the entertainers from our balcony at night.
We stay every 3 years at a grand villa in bay lake theme park view. That two story window is fabulous. It is worth it especially with younger kids who can't stay out late in the parks but can watch the fireworks in their PJs.
I never pay for the lake view at the Poly. We prefer to walk to the beach at fireworks time.We ask for a view of the pool.
I absolutely want a Savannah+ view at Kidani. We prefer Kidani because they have a community center at Kidani but not at main AKL.
At the grand Flo we go for lake views in the original villa building.

Riviera Thought- once it's sold out they will change standard vs prefered point gap (add to standard, reduce prefferd). They want to show a lower point possibility while selling. Maybe introduce a 3rd category if rules allow 'lower floor view'

Derek not every DVC room has a balcony. The new DL Tower has limited balconies, mostly on 1/2/3 bedroom rooms have them. I also think there is one at Boulder Ridge or Copper Creek and a few in the New Grand Floridian Resort studios I want to say 7 or 8 with no balcony.

I own at Saratoga and will be going for 5 nights at end of January. We’re a family of 7 so always need a 2 bedroom and preferred is 5 extra points a night plus 9 for a fri. Would be 41 extra for the week. It would never be worth it for me I request paddock. I had a room at poly in July the theme park view and the bungalows were blocking my view so don’t think the extra points are worth it.

I know if your going to Disneyland, California. A great use of DVC points for a big family. Would be the 3 Bedroom Presidential Suite at the Anaheim WorldMark Resort. You would be about a 7 minute Uber Drive away from the main entrance. To the Disneyland Entrance. You can also opt out for the Disneyland Shuttle. Across the street from the WorldMark Timeshare Resort. You can use the Interval International Exchange Company. To trade in to that Resort.

I was actually thinking as we walked through the Grand Flo last month that if I paid for a theme park view and all I had was that row of trees but the tippy top of the castle, I would be really mad! It's kind of the same with Poly theme park views. And I thought it again in relation to some of the lake view rooms at Copper Creek where all you see is trees...I wonder if in general Disney is opposed to topping trees. If that's the case, you will lose some categories altogether as trees continue to grow and views are obstructed!
