Student here. I have tried using Apple Notes full-time for handwritten notes and it's not very good in my experience. Mainly the fact that when you write a lot and the page gets longer, the writing gets very laggy to the point that the iPad will become very hot and the app would crash at some point (this is on iPadOS 18.2!) It also doesn't have page-by-page editing like Goodnotes or Notability (which might contribute to the issue above,) so that I can't export my notes as PDFs properly. What I mean by that is you can still export your notes as PDFs, but sometimes your writing would get sliced down the middle with one half on one page and one half on the other. Those are my two biggest gripes about this app. If Apple would have address this issue, I would switch to it full-time from Goodnotes. Otherwise, I use Apple Notes for everything that are typed-text, and Goodnotes for everything that is handwritten.
I found a workaround for this! You can prevent it from lagging by breaking it up with text. I was having this issue too and then I starting using text headers for sections, and the lag's basically gone now. It's silly that it needs a workaround at all, but it's a quick fix at least :) it can help a bit with the exporting too but you may still need to adjust a bit.
I do tend to think that Goodnotes is perfect for students (Although I prefer Notabilities aesthetic). It’s set up for it. The big thing I want Apple Notes to update is how it handles PDFs, it’s not good enough IMO.
@@drdentrepair5530 - you’re also able to ask Siri/ChatGPT to summarize or analyse that screen grab! It doesn’t really work with handwritten notes, however.
I love notability, but since Apple launched the handwriting neatening tool I can't use anything apart from apple notes it just makes notes so much cleaner
I love Apple Notes. It just keeps getting better and better. I take advantage of Apple’s Ecosystem and Notes is something I use everyday. Best of all is that it’s free! I’ve tried other note taking apps, and they can do some amazing things, but Notes does everything I need.
Thanks for this video - I also moved finally to apple notes, mainly because of the „ecosytem“, so I have everything on the Right place. Greatings to downunder (where I spent two years of my youth) from Austria and good luck with your channel, which now got one subscriber more 👍 So long, da Wolf 🐺
I bought notability back when it was a one time purchase, and I understand your fear of the apps longevity. When they moved to a subscription model I didnt like they did it without prior announcement. Since then ive been worried one day the app is just gonna be gone. I also wondered if moving to apple notes is the way to go. I just wish that apple notes was more full featured as other established note takers. If apple notes integrates was to link parts of notes together each other (like obsidian), that could be a good work around for how apple notes imports pdfs.
I am on the same situation as you, I kind of want to stop using Notability and use Apple notes because i have so much in there and it came to stay being part of the Apple ecosystem. Notability feels a lot better hand writing, not even close. 😞
The “ecosystem” is probably why Apple Notes is a minimally feature note taking app. From what I’ve seen it’s more of a crippled word processor than a functional note taking app. But because of the “ecosystem” I’m going to keep using Notes and lament is 3rd rate functionality.
I literally thought this was a huge channel at first surprised to see such a low subscriber count rn! Your video are good and Fair but somehow clickbait? Hope you blow up soon 🎉🎉🎉🎉 ps. Still sticking sticking with notability though 😂!
My main problem with apple notes is the organization…i feel like it’s not that hard to make a good notes app. But you have to nail down the basics…and Apple notes don’t do that…I’m not an artist, I don’t need 160 brushes or create art based on my drawing..I just want a good mangement system for my files and a good integration with pictures and PDF in my notes…maybe it’s harder to do than I think….maybe!!
As a busy professional I find the Apple does very well to create notes however there are some quirks when it comes to processing and navigating through your notes. I live in my notes so it makes it a challenge to use Apple notes as my primary notes app.
I'm finding AI in notes really helpful. I'm surprised how much it improves the wording. Also the integrated eco system has always been worth Apple Notes’ limitations IMO, but they are becoming less and less. Love Apple Notes.
Firstly, I do hope that doesn’t happen, as I think it’s excellent. And secondly I would image we’re at least 5 years away from that. But as to why…. I worry that the nature of subscription models within an AppStore results in a limited lifespan. It needs both new and existing users to pay regularly for a service that is available for free elsewhere. When apps were one off purchases (such as when I payed for Notability) I was a little more hopeful that it would last. I’ve had Notability for 5 years, but in the long run I find it more likely that Apple Notes outlasts it given its low cost of maintenance as part of a wider ecosystem.
Apple Notes allows one to search by combinations of tags-a great feature for me. How did you transfer the Notability notes to Apple Notes? I’ve stored thousands of documents in Notability and would love to transfer them to Apple Notes.
@@fidoalca9 the only way I’ve found is to have them saved as PDF backups via the Notability settings and the saving those PDFs into your relevant Apple Notes filing system. Hope that helps!

Great hack! Thanks for sharing
and Freeform...what a combo
I did not know you could tell Siri to send a screen grab! I’ve always screen shot it and then sent. That was a great tip

I do find it tries to guess as what I’ve written and gets it wrong though 😂

Totally agree!
I find myself using Apple Notes for my hand writing “on the go” notes but it’s hard to get rid of Notion.
For this channel, notes is where I create ideas and notion is where I capture and organise them. Including script writing, etc.. it’s a good balance

Thank you Wolf! Austria is not a country I’ve been to yet, but I plan to visit. Appreciate the support 🤝

I miss one off purchases. Subscription models fill me with distrust.

Is it available on iPad 10 gen
Apple Intelligence isn’t, as it’s only available on M1 chips. But Apple Notes and the Apple Pencil is available on it. So you’re good!
This was a nicely done video. Good luck for you and your channel.
Thank you so much!

The fact that they haven’t changed the filing system in a decade doesn’t make me hopeful for any improvements there 😩

Just wish I could pinch to zoom and squeeze to erase😊
You are so right! I can’t believe I forgot to mention that. So annoying
Love from india Sir ❤
I’d be interested to know why you think Notability might be going away.
