Hi guys - YT has SEVERLY cut this one down. This is just some of the highlights. I may try to reedit it in the future to get it out but for now, here is just a little bit of EEAAO. thanks for watching just this little taste.
TBH Stephanie Hsu was robbed; Jamie Lee Curtis got a lifetime achievement award of opportunity. The "all my fault" line is where this movie broke me too. That hit different, and hard. Pretty much cried my way through the rest of the movie.
I have trouble understanding where he would get the idea that it could be all his fault. Does he believe that merely asking for a divorce would cause the whole universe- multiverse- to suddenly go haywire?
and Angela Bassett in Black Panther Wakanda Forever... they always take the opportunity to give an overdue award to a white actor whenever there's a BIPOC actor in the running smh, bc the academy is twisted. I'm not on the ins of the Film Academy, but I assume its similar to the GRAMMYs, and the GRAMMYs voting system has big issues.
Jamie Lee deserved the award. So did every other nominee. It’s an award for creating a believable character and bringing it to life, irregardless of how many moving speeches a character gives. Curtis breathed just as much life into her character as Hsu did. It’s just that Hsu’s character was more important to the plot and her character was given lines with more gravitas, but Curtis absolutely delivered, even in the scenes where she was in the background and/or had no lines. Joy had more emotional impact on the audience than Deidre, so I understand folks’ reaction to Curtis being awarded the Oscar, but, again, Jamie Lee turned in just as good a performance as Stephanie. ❤️
James Hong has been in 457 movies since his first role in 1954 when he was 25. Waymond and Gong Gong both explained why Jobu was upset; Alpha Evelyn pushed Jobu so hard that she started seeing every possibility all at once. Since Evelyn was able to survive the mind split that Jobu survived because she was the worst Evelyn, it suggests that Jobu was the worst Joy while Alpha Evelyn was a brilliant scientist.
She wasn't purposely being rude or mean. She wasn't kicking Becky out: she was not comfortable with the idea of her daughter's girlfriend looking after her father while the family did tax things. She is fearful of her father's judgement.
@@WatchwithMarcella Right? I mean she already felt criticized and rejected by him (I am curious as to what Gong Gong’s backstory with his own parents is like). So on top of base anxiety about leaving him with someone he hardly knows, she is worried about what his reaction could be, if and when he finds out who Becky actually is- it would, potentially, give him one MORE thing to carp at her about, he might turn on his granddaughter on finding out she was gay, and could even (she suggests) be harmful to himself, if the shock is severe enough. (and then to add yet a further layer to the mix, while she is, I believe, legitimately concerned about the potential blowback from him If he should learn the truth, she is _also_ using it is a convenient excuse to avoid acknowledgement that she is not in fact as open as she would like to believe herself to be.)
It's not that odd for security guards to carry guns. It just requires a certification and opens up higher paying positions. My dad worked as one for a few years. Plus since they're being audited, they're likely at the IRS building, which would be a government facility. You see when they first walk in that there are metal detectors and bag scanners. So guns are pretty expected there.
I can't with this movie. I'm crying AGAIN! I went to watch this when it was released, no one went to watch it so I was alone in the theater but I was glad that I was because I was crying and laughing at the same time. I looked like a crazy person.
I ignored it when it first came out. I tend to avoid things that are so hyped. FINALLY saw it and I agree. I cry every time. I mean a movie that makes me cry over ROCKS! Genius.
It's my head-canon that, when immigrating from China to the USA, the man who would be called 'Weymond' was recommended to change his Chinese name to "Raymond" but, because of the accent, it was mispronounced... and he knows it's incorrect, but he liked it so much that he kept it. That's just the sort of thing he'd do.
The security guards have guns because the IRS is a federal organization. They don't have unarmed security watching federal properties. All of their guards would be armed ones. My husband used to work for the Small Business Administration (doing IT work), and the guards at the building there had guns as well. Likewise, when you go into a Department of Motor Vehicles, any guards that are employed are armed guards. Basically, level of arming depends on what is being guarded. Police don't escort armored bank trucks (like Brinks), but they will hire two armed guards to stay with the money. Likewise with government agencies, their guards are always armed. Edit: There is so much significance to her saying "I'm sorry, what did you say" at the ending, because before, when she didn't hear, or understand, she would either pretend she did, or blame the other person for not being clear enough. Not only has she chosen to be present, and kinder, but she's also admitting when she doesn't hear or understand something. Before, she said she didn't need help, at the end, she accepts Becky and Joy's help. Evelyn's character arch in this movie is INCREDIBLE.
Her character arc is incredible. You are so right about her last line! I noticed that when I was editing. If I could have added everything I learned or missed while I was editing that could be a whole separate video. 😂 I wish all those places didn’t need armed guards. That’s just sad. 😩

I agree 90% most of my first reaction was confusion and awe and I felt like the movie fully hit me the second time. I remember not actually knowing how I felt about the movie after I watched it the first time. I told my mom I didn’t know if I liked it but I would absolutely 100% see it again. @17:48 - 1. Because movie 2. Because 'murica 3. Because this is a federal building so they would not be private security people. @1:24:40 - One of the actors that you see throughout this, like sitting next to her in the theater, is named Waymond (Lee). She put her foot down telling them it was stupid and would hurt the suspension of disbelief and investment in the character.

Nah... Stephanie deserves the oscar way more than jamie for this movie... Anyone would say that including me... Jamie i think got it beacause of years of being in the industry... Which isnt fair to Stephanie as she deserves more for this role
Stephanie was amazing, but she just wasn’t going to beat Jamie Lee. Once that train starts with the awards, it rarely stops and when she won the first one, I thought yeah - she’s gonna win the Oscar. Fierce, fragile, heartbreaking and the epitome of Strength all in such a short amount of screen time. Now though? I would have to call it a draw between Stephanie and Angela. Both were amazing. Jamie was great and maybe deserved the golden globe, but not the Oscar. Maybe. I don’t know. She was really good too. Three way tie!!! Has that ever happened?
You know, I thought about it when you said it didn’t seem like they were married in the beginning that is kind of the point how they weren’t acting like a happy couple and she was very dismissive
