In a recent interview, Paul said that Evil has nothing to do with the serial killer couple.

@@Dutch9780 Not yet. In fact, it is not excluded that Paul lied, as when he denied any influence of Joy Division on Interpol, but then I discovered that in their youth they had dedicated a CD to Jan Curtis.

Actually yes and no... The music and music video... it uses the killer couple as a metaphore. The song is about a man loving a woman that has feelings for him but won't admit it to him nor to anyone else because the two individuals come from a family that are religious but both follow a different religion which one family would not permit her to date or marry a man of another faith. So, he song is asking her to confess your feelings and admit you feel the same way. He thinks she's his soul mate but in the music video it ass more to the music and lets you see that this is kind of an out of body experience more spiritual. If you look at the puppet... It moves weird just like a soul would when you first left your body. However, he is going in and out of the body. We at one point see medics checking the eyes of the puppet... where then it shows a transition to where he's in an ambulance and the medics are again checking his eyes. The woman is knocked out cold. This in a nutshell is a song about how this man wants to have relationship with a woman that feels the same way but don't act on it because she's worried about her father and her family to disapprove the relationship based on a religious grounds. At the end of the music video you see the surgeons walk out of a room and the lights dim and the puppet kinda walking in place. It means that he died but this is playing on metaphors.. That pretty much the relationships ended before it could even start. Which left the man dead..

The workload for the video was insane. The head was an animatronic unit, but the whole body was a string-puppet. There are some photos on the web from the hospital-set where you see the whole thing suspended in mid-air with several puppeteers operating some complex rigging to move the limbs from outside frame.

Wait it was about the wests, I am not going to lie I honestly thought it was about a drunk or drugged driver who hit someone or got in an accident, I thought Norman the puppet was meant to be the person who was the driver and that's why he's been taken in the ambulance cos he was suffering from shock, well now I feel bit like an idiot
