Thank you so much for this in class my teachers are always telling me to engage my core but I honestly never really understood what it means 😭

That deep breath explanation was probably the most useful description of how to achieve an engaged core. Thank you!

Thank you very much! Whenever I learn dance videos or do workouts they say engage your core but I didn’t know how .Your explanation is quite helpful to me as self taught dancer.

I want to thank you. I’ve been watching a few videos about how to breathe for dancing, and you’re the first one who’s actually teaching us “how to breathe for dancing“ instead of just telling us how important it is to breathe, or just telling us that it’s important to breathe through the diaphragm or whatever… You’re really teaching us what dancers do and I appreciate that.

this was so helpful, especially the reminder to focus on how it feels not how it looks!

What’s you’re saying is what I always do for my workouts. I always make my court harder and stiffer/tighter, as opposed to squeezing everything in. Makes it a lot easier to maintain my stamina and breathing. I do squeeze everything in when I am doing stretches/yoga. For flexibility. But other than that, when it comes to my singing or workouts, it’s really about making everything harder/us differ not about sucking anything in or pushing anything out. So of course for singing, I still have to kind of hold out/expand my core area and breathe in gradually , but I never go all the way in.

5:06, nice to know I’m not the only moron that was trying to walk around like this a couple years ago, lol. Good thing that phase didn’t last long.

Hey, I found your analogies and examples incredibly helpful!!! May I also ask if this is applicable to all dance styles? (e.g. commercial jazz, hiphop, jazz funk etc.) Also, I've heard that core engagement has to be dynamic, do you have any thoughts on this? Thanks in advance!!
