Thank you for the detailed and high-quality video! Let me add some information. If the sensor has three contacts, then it not only turns on the reversing lights, but also informs the engine ECU that neutral gear on manual transmission is engaged. If the three-pin sensor breaks down, an engine malfunction may occur with a diagnostic code for the neutral sensor. This will cause the CE light on the instrument panel to come on. There is no such sensor on automatic transmissions. Instead of a reverse sensor, an inhibitor is installed there, connected to the automatic transmission selector. Information from the repair manual: To check the sensor, disconnect its electrical wiring connector and check the continuity between the sensor contacts. Note. The contact numbering (1-2-3) goes from left to right when the connector latch is facing upward. There should be continuity between contacts 1 and 2 when reverse gear is engaged, and between contacts 2 and 3 when the manual transmission is in neutral. There should be no conductivity in other positions.
Thanks for detailed information about "three contact sensors". My Clio 4 car also has three contacts. I've replaced the switch. Now my reverse light works. But somehow car computer gives error about stop-start system and hill asistance error. Do you know what can be the problem?
Garage says my Micra k12 which is automatic needs a special reverse light switch one with a long cable as it has to run through the ecg ? I can't find this anywhere! 2007 Micra spirita model
Nice tutorial mate, is this the same rough procedure for other cars? I have a Megane mk3 and have changed the fuse for the reverse lights but they still don't work, my next step is to change the switch.
Thanks. A lot of cars with manual gearboxes have a very similar set up. Depending on the position of the switch, you may need to drain the gearbox oil or be ready to plug up the hole as soon as you remove the switch.
this switch is the on/off power for the parking sensors as well, because the parking sensors are connected to the positive wire from the reverse light bulb.
Thanks for the video..Has this switch got 3 pins, if so do you know how to check the 3 pin variant.. Also, Is it worth replacing the gearbox oil at 50k miles? If so how much oil and type required for this vehicle? Many thanks..
Yes it has 3 pins. Changing the gearbox is recommended every 50 to 60 thousand miles. This video has all the details about the oil and capacity: ruclips.net/video/0wfNRjdeh18/видео.html
I'm not sure if there is such a switch on the automatic gearbox. It might be integrated into the gearbox somewhere but I don't actually know. I've never worked with one, sorry.
Found 32005-6J00A for K12, K13, T31 (Xtrail) on parts page Manual Transmission case & clutch release (unit) BUT it appears to be 2 pin plug. Tridon says TRS081 which is 3 pin (dual normally open switch) 32005-00QAE is correct for 3 pin Reverse/back-up switch
Sensor k wajah se kabhi kabhi dash board mein engine light on rahegi. Reverse gear bulbs acche hone k bad bhi lights on nahi hora iska Matlab switch change karna padega

@@screwsnutsandbolts Cheers dude, I'll be sure to have an oil pan just in case, could probably do with a change anyway, the car has done 80,000 now.
That help for reversing parking sensors as well ?
No this just activates the reverse light at the rear of the car

Thanks so much. Very helpful.
You're welcome, thanks for watching !
Hi is it necessary to drain gear oil first?
If you watch the video from 6:19 I explain how you can do it without draining the gearbox

Where can I purchase one of these backup light switches
You can probably pick one up from ebay or amazon. The part number is 3200500qad but double check that with your car to be sure it's the right part.
Hundai accent reverse light switch price?
It would cost about $20 dollars, or less

Do you have a real part number?
The part number I found is 3200500qad. Double check that number to be sure it matches your car.
