At 54 I bought the KLX 300R after not owning a motorcycle for over 25 years, and I love it
53 and just got back into riding last year. My first bike was a KX85 in 1985, so I decided to stick with team green. I’m not disappointed. This machine is incredible for the price point.
The only mods I’ve done is new pro taper bars (bent the stock ones hitting g a tree 😂) and hand guards (crushed my hand on the same tree). It’s a beast and will tractor up any hill with ease.
If 58 and just about to buy my first trail bike. I raced KX80's in 1981' 82 and had a blast. Im looking at KLX300r of TTR230. The weight of the KLX was a concern. Also have you adjusted ok to a 4 stroke? that was also a concern for me.
@@Ian3199 She is heavy, but I’ve never been on the TTR so I can’t compare. No issues with the 4 stroke. It’s no 2 stroke, but it has plenty of power. 1st gear is a waste, but will tractor up any hill.
At 57 I also bought a brand new 2022 kLR 300r for $6,500 out the door price last October. Love it.
Love my 300r, put a 54 tooth on the rear with MX14 rear tire and it eats up trails here in Michigan, I'm right under 200lbs and so far suspension does well even in our whoops.
Where in Michigan you ride? I'm at the IN boarder looking to pick up this bike.
Picking mine up next week as my first bike at age 42. CanNOT wait!!
Congrats! It takes some guts to get involved with dirtbiking in your 30s and 40s. I commend you on that and making a smart choice on a bike!
@@mxgryan Some call it guts, my wife calls it a mid life crisis. 😁
@ronowens1095 maybe so...but there are far worse mid life crisis hobbies to get involved it! 😁
perfect choice
My Dude, I think you just convinced me to buy one of these little green billy goats. Thank you for the entertaining ride and insightful commentary!
Heck yea! Thank you for the kind words bro!
You just sold me on the bike. I'm new to riding dirt bikes but have a 125 I play in my woods with and have been wanting to go up a bit. My area is just like this. So this bike is perfect. Great video!
You won't regret it. Thanks for the kind words Randy!
Did you get one RawDawg?
@@Differentthingsstandup I actually ended up with the super moto version (klx300sm) and absolutely love it. I lowered the front sprocket to a 13 tooth and it’s perfect for running around town and wheelies.
I had a 2021 model. They are way better bikes than they are given credit for. The stock suspension is actually pretty good for riders up to about 170lbs. For order of business is a fuel tuner, air filter and an exhaust system. Together they really wake up the power. Hard to find a new bike that works that well, in that price range.
Just bought one this week and already love it. Probably do a fuel controller and exhaust (because I can't leave anything alone).Looks strange in the garage with 3 KTMs and a Honda😂😂
My brother has a 2023 and he put a power commander and a procircut full exhaust on it and it really seemed to wake the bike up.
He's got the DB insert out of that Q4, and they lose low end power with them out + are way too loud. They run better with them in on every bike Iv put them on. These bikes run so good with the oem exhaust anyway.
I installed the 300 r piston, cylinder. Cams and injector on my 2018 camo 250. A power bomb front pipe and a Supertrapp muffler. The 300 r being off road and more performance than the street version. Its an animal and someday ill come across a KTM TO BEAT. THE KAWI comes on strong at 7500 to red line and cruises over 70 +. Almost as fast as my klr650 camo.
Little green tractor! 😁
I can tell you I'm an advanced rider in trails some moto and insane hill climbs and single track and with the right sprockets and do not!! Lower this bike my klx300r is perfect I keep up with 450s and 250s and they can't leave me and if I'm in front they can't stay right up my tail pipe this bike is perfect for the woods and trails
Thanks for mentioning the loud pipe. If you want to make sure your kids won't have a place to ride, replace your stock exhaust. More riding area has been lost to needless noise than anything else.
Absolutely agreed.

@@innawoods.larper common sense qns experience.
I think I'm gonna buy one of those as a playbike. And the trails way more fun than mx bike.
Awesome video this is my next bike for 2024!!
Good choice!
at 13:00 that thing just tractored up that hill man
Dude this bike surprised me!
@@mxgryan Definitely the bike to get if you want a trail bike honestly
epic video, man!
Thank you bro!
I was unable to find anyone with any experience on these bikes. I have recently purchased one and will be telling everyone I know about it.
@@randomfellow6245 great bikes truly.
Got the same bike, very nice but a total pig in tight areas
Seems the 2024 model in Canada only comes in battle gray. I'd like the green. More. They must be trying to get rid of 2023 stock.
Id like the grey
Great land for Moto X, trail and Deer Hunting. That would be a great scout bike. This is the style of bike I'm looking for, for my daughter and I ... Is that one tooth for trail riding... for that lower gear ... I saw the game feeders...someone is a hunter
Just getting back into riding and have a 22 300r, what a fun bike these are. I'll probably leave it stock since it performs well for most applications and it's super quiet.
Be a fun hare scramble bike!
How about an update on the bike after you did the suspension work on it
ruclips.net/video/VNlfouJG0sM/видео.htmlsi=dOLppIwszbIV3yud
he also changed the pegs
Heck yeah!!!!!🤘🤘🤘💯
Maybe ride totally stock and review it
How does it compare to an 06 CRF250? im planning on buying this one brand new but im not sure if it will be as fun but the maintenance is killing me on mine haha
Stock sprockets are super torquey.
Yes they sure are, haha!
Damn wish I could afford one of these I’m just too damn broke 🤦♂️
Good review but that obnoxiously loud exhaust certainly wouldn't work for the Riders around me or using helmet communicators
Yeah i hate that exhaust.
How is the suspension for MX track jumping?
@@millerssmallenginerepair2142 in stock form far too soft.
What's the main performance difference between this and the dual sport klx model?
The chassis are different. Both are 300s, but the street legal doesn't have the same ground clearance as the 300r stock and is full sized.
Is there much difference between the r and the dual sport version besides being street legal?
I do not know all the differences. I own the dual sport and it takes some uncorking, fuel controller, exhaust, secondary throttle plate removal, kdx intake. Mine is a tractor. I ride with intermediate riders on ktms and huskys all day long.
Gearing, weight, suspension, brakes , and tires… im sure there’s more
Do those bikes run lean
You mention you're a 220 lb guy, how tall are you? Just wondering for reference, I'm 200 lbs, 5'8" but my KLX300 is also the dual sport all modded out. My suspension is way too soft for me.
5 foot 11
can you link the dash thing you have on the handlebars?
Hmmmmm not sure what you're referring to my man
what a dork
Are you in Western PA?
WV!
@@mxgryan ahhh close! I knew the terrain seemed a bit familiar!
Not $100 a month. Pay cash or can’t afford
Wrong.
Thats not a 2024 that a 2023 or older!
Eh, same bike
No its NOT, its been 90% redone, I know I have 1. @@mxgryan
Why did the owner decide to go down in the front and not up a tooth or 2 in the back? Going down in th front is harder on the chain because the smaller sprocket had a small circumference putting more stress on the chain, wearing it out faster. If they went up in the rear it also wouldn't be such a huge difference in the way the bike "tractors" as.you like to call it.
Normally people change the fronts because it's quicker, easier and cheaper.
