- So Mavado is now live for Mortal Kombat 1, the latest in the long line of Kameo characters and as a kameo he is very strong with very powerful abilities! I do not like this character, but even I will admit he is bringing a lot to the table, so lets deep dive on his options and gameplay!

I HATE MAVADO, but he is a pretty strong kameo in this game. This will not absolve him of his crimes of wasting my god damn time in MK deadly alliance, but its a good start. Like vid if you think Mavado is a bum too

Yoo Mavado actually did the impossible. He made young Shang Tsung's strings that never amounted to any kombos, to actually connecting them normally. This is absolutely amazing.
Have you not heard of scorpion or Sonya that can do the same thing?
there’s no point in using any string in young form tho cuz u can change to old form for the same thing n get more damage n chip if it gets blocked
He's made Scorpion's new string viable too and really effective at that. Great Kameo

I think one of his biggest strengths is the fact that he can turn a lot of stray hits into full combos. The way his combo kameo call works, it only comes out when they are in an actual juggle state, in that sense it is a build in Option select. For example, think of all the johnny shadow kicks people randomly get hit by, every one of that kicks can now be a full combo.
Very good stuff. The -100 health prevents him from deleting some other kameos

Mavado’s alpha counter feels a lot like Spawn’s armor break move in MK11. Both introduce mechanics that are requested by the player base. In Spawn’s case, armor breakers were then universally introduced to every character (in varying degrees of success) on the roster with ‘season 2’. It wouldn’t surprise if Mavado was a precursor to such a situation in MK1.

Same. He has a lot of potential and would have made perfect sense in a game where Kabal was sitting out.
Still can't believe he doesn't have a Spidey swing siiigghhhh. He's legit though hopefully he's playable in future sequels.
I remember thinking as a teenager that Mavado was the coolest thing ever, but I was also that kid who wore Jinco jeans with an Invader Zim hoodie and insisted that Donnie Darko was the greatest movie ever so take that as you will. That said, he might be my Kameo of choice given what he can do...

I wouldn't be surprised if every kameo has a alpha counter/block breaker, because i remember in mk11 spawn was the only character that had a armor breaking move and then everybody else had one later.
Glad I bought it on Switch sale after those patches!

They'll introduce that Flawless Block breaker to everyone eventually, NRS likes introducing a character specific gimmick before opening it up for the whole roster. They're aware people want more defensive options so this will test the waters.
He makes Johnny a bigger threat by giving him plus frames.

idc what anybody else says, this guy was one of my favs in deadly alliance - Armageddon and was my most anticipated dlc even over the guests and him being a crazy fun assist makes me happy

I think the reason Mavado's "Push Block" is unique to him and the real reason he takes away 100 health; the Push block can Kill.
you forgot to mention that Mavado's block breaker damages the opponent. this is absolutely insane.
You can actually get shaos ax buff before the back 2 when the mine hits them. You get a guaranteed 30% and nearly 40% throw if they upblock you.
When I was younger I always remembered Kabal fighting differently......It took me years before I found out that I was actually using Mavado, so I kinda have a soft spot for him

I spent so much time learning flawless blocking in mk11. It was my favorite mechanic in the game. I truly hope they are adding this push block/ flawless block to the entire cast. It will make the game soooo much better! I hope they are going the spawn route like in mk11 when they first dropped his armor breakers and then to the entire cast.
Hey roofle, do you think his collide assist and his mine assist will help with keepaway, prinarily peacemaker. Watched the NA Regionals the other day and peacemaker won it with zoning.
Agree on the alpha counter thing. Silly for one person. The game is aggressive enough that meter for a get off me would not go amiss

I feel he's kinda bugged. I'm playing him with Kitana and was having fun, but for some reason his moves sometimes don't come out, like stuff that works perfectly in practice is super inconsistent online. Anyone else notice this problem?
So while watching this video...(i also played him a little be4 coming to work) off the whim, i realize...the way mavado's 2 combo extenders are set up...technically he only has 1 TRUE ambush which is his landmine...the rest are actually like summon calls (hear me out). If u think about it, You use his combo extenders AFTER ur characters animations are done (like a summon), not DURING the attack animation (like an ambush)...the only difference is ur character is not posing...his combo cameo moves are like hybrid summons (if u will)...u have to call him in after a cancellable normal (like a summon) or after a special move...but there is no pose for your character to be in (like an ambush)
I kept saying he has an OTG and no one seemed to trip off it.
They fixed some brutalities! Now head and body parts have better physics and don't just fall to the ground clipping throught the body. Scorpion's spear brutality now makes sense!
I noticed the heads fly way further when u do the klassic uppercut brutality now😂

The trap from Mavado helps Quan Chi a lot with time to set up the zone that drains meter for armour. It feels nice to have more scenarios he can meaningfully gain from!

Just got past the otg attack and didn't see you mention mavado's otg allowing you to 100% guarantee havik's unblockable followup, giving him 600-700 dmg combos for 2 bars in the corner that almost build a full extra bar
I remember Maximilian thought all kameos were getting that push back thing mavado has but nope its unique to him

I don’t know man, -100hp is massive. How is nitara really meant to use him. Shoa and charters with good hp will be fine but low hp character really have no reason to pick him

I never bothered getting MK1 but i'm curious, it seems that essentially nobody cares about a cameo unless it is an ambush. Does anyone ever use the other kinds? Or is it just an arguably failed aspect of the cameo system?

Pretty much all the new kameos have been good because they open up a lot of options with ambush assists. I don't get why they don't just make 90% of the cast have ambush do that way pressure can be much mote open ended and free.
Also, why in the hell isn't the guard break a universal mechanic!?

The fact that you can combo off of any semi-launching hit means that Mavado can combo off of almost any Armored Reversal... Take a moment to think about that...

I hope people are seeing that mk1 is getting nuttier and better. People hated 11 then loved it. Mk played like to complain and every time a new game comes out they praise the last game till their very specific characters come in. We begged for 3d characters and if an anime or player came in with nitara it be a massacre. If we keep complaining and asking for changes and characters instead of learning a new game it's gonna hurt the next releases. I think we should have gotten a new dc game or a vs game. When is there gonna be a tag game with mk dc that's on the tag game level. Like it's been leaked that if we keep our heads out of our butt that there was a possibility for a 2v2 game mode. Idk, I'm going off the deep end but a 3v3 mk dc game would kill it or a DC game to try these goofy mechanics would be cool. But injustice games had anime installs so if we had installs and tag between 2- or three characters it be sick. But let it be known files have hinted at a more free form two v two. That we have to support the game 🎯 f we want a strong future. Microsoft has been prepping the ki team and if you don't think that they can release a new ki your crazy because it has the most loyal fanbase. If I was mk I'd have a ki/primal instinct season. But I've only played fighting games since they were invented.
I hate that that Mavado gets this cool mine while Cyrax has the shittiest bomb ever. I really hope they buff Cyrax, he needz it.
My thoughts exactly. I think a great buff for Cyrax would be adding a new move for dropping his bomb on a floor from chest like in mkx and prior so it has nice combo and mixup potential
The fact they know everyone wants Alpha counter and put on a DLC character only really sucks. "Testing the waters" isn't really a good excuse when it's locked behind a pay wall. I guess when season pass 2 starts up is when they will give everyone Alpha counter. WB gonna WB.

Honestly, of the big 3 FGs out, I'd say for my money that Mortal Kombat is actually on-top, when it comes to characters. Like somehow, Mavado is remotely "cool" character, at least in gameplay aspect. They really are putting their heart out for DLC and it's honestly nice to see. Nothing against T8 or SF6, but MK got that nice output of DLC. In a years time, we are getting 6 characters and 5 Kameos. Granted, T8, obviously a 3D Fighter is much harder to just throw a character into the game, given how many moves you gotta put into that one character and change the animations slightly. But SF6 ooohh my, I WISH we had the MK treatment of DLC in terms of characters. And I'm saying this as a SF fan. So good job NRS :)

I personally never liked Kobra, Mavado, Hsu Hao, and Kira. These are the only characters I'd never care for Ed to utilize in lore again.
Mortal Kombat 1 is for the people who like Sonic the Hedgehog 🤣💯 all these plus frame talking & b.s.
