This is arguably the most flawed system in the entire game. When you get to the status of a king, you have a few vassals and holdings then you no longer want to run around chasing people of a lower social status and please them till they come help your ass. You wanna conquer and take care of the kingdom - this is where the warband system of them just coming to your hall was pretty fucking sweet.
DUDE it took me so long to figure this out. you can only recruit clans that dont have a town or fief! because towns or fiefs are worth about 1 million denars in this game!
Very informative video. Straight to the point and I learned a ton about vassals and Mercs without having to sit here for 20 minutes. More of this please.
Thank you! I have slowed down my tutorials a little bit the last week or two as Taleworlds is beyond description, patching things so quick that it is hard to keep information relevant! I will definitely keep making tutorials as the patches settle down.
I have actually recieved another comment that explained this further to me. Apparently if the lord is handed over to another faction it will reset the lord. So by finishing off that faction or if he was recruited by someone else. I haven't had time to test this yet to verify it. I did wait in 4x speed for about 20 minutes while I was originally testing. The word "Never" was very preemptive of me and I apologize to anyone this misleads.
Very informative. I liked this non-forced sense of humor like when you were talking about executing lord to have another chance at recruiting his clan. It is worth mentioning that clan's fiefs will be incorporated into your kingdom after recruitment only if you are at war with this clan's faction. I recruited some lords from kingdims with wich I have been at peace with and they left their towns and castles behind.
Yes I absolutely should have included that. I even had a friend message me on steam asking this exact question! Thank you for the compliments Tabdoine.

This has changed a little in the last patch, have read a few tips that may help you but have not had time to test in the last 2 days myself. Try to recruit lords with the Honorable Trait, keep your reputation up with the lord / clan. Try not to add vassals too quick as you will not have fiefs for them to rule, slowly build to a powerful kingdom and they should stop leaving.
DUDE it took me so long to figure this out. you can only recruit clans that dont have a town or fief! because towns or fiefs are worth about 1 million denars in this game!
Copy pasting banners was a vanilla feature before 1.3. An online editor was available at bannerlord.party/banner/ While the editor is still there, it now requires a mod called Bannerpaste.

In the latest beta 1.4.1, I can’t recruit them if they’re in an army. I get why that would happen but it’s annoying because when I’m roaming the lands most people are in armies 😭 (Edit) one thing I do is try to get them when they are in a castle or town. Or just destroy their army and catch them when they are recruiting 10/10
This is a very handy comment. Fortunately Bannerlord is evolving so fast and comments like this help more than just myself stay current. Thank you returnofthe stoic.
Are the vassals here shitty just like in warband? I mean that they will leave me if they're not satisfied with my actions, low morale and all that crap?
when doing speech checks and my companion or wife has a big stat, does that carry over when im doing one? or does it only work when ur character has the stat
The main story line does not need to be complete in 1.4.2. That being said, you will need to own a castle/city and achieve clan level 4 to form your own kingdom.
I don’t know if this has changed in the latest patch, but in previous patches, the minor clans make BAD vassals! It’s better to simply hire them-they are mercenaries, after all!
Very good video. It's hard to start, it's like, come to my kingdom, we are too weak to declare war to anyone and I have no fief for you... ^^ I don't understand, but I don't have this option with 'Raganvad' from Sturgia...

Unfortunately starting your own kingdom is a very hard task in the current build. Try recruiting vassals with the "Honorable" trait, as they seem to stay a little longer. The Vassals seem more likely to stay as you gain strength., but off the start it is always hard to keep them. If you are not opposed to mods the Diplomacy mod makes a few QOL changes that make kingdom management require less personal travel. www.nexusmods.com/mountandblade2bannerlord/mods/832 Keep pushing my friend, even if it seems hopeless. Having a good unit composition and quality will allow you to stand against much larger forces. Get that clan level and stewardship up and no one will stand in your way.
When this guide was made, the main quest was the only way to form your own Kingdom. As you are already King in the current build you can ignore the main quest line. I believe the end goal would be that the Dragon Banner from the main quest would give more right to rule, making declarations of war against your kingdom less likely. Monday my children are back in school full time so I will be finally have time to re-visit and update guides.
Can I recruit vassals if I'm part of someone else's kingdom? Derthert keeps throwing fiefs at me and I don't have the troops or the speed to cover them all. I need to give somebody some of these fiefs like you could in Warband.
It keeps saying "I will not listen to such matters while I'm in an army" Why does it keep saying this? It says it for every person I come across. What am I doing wrong?
The developers have fixed this since I made this video. You are doing nothing wrong but the game mechanics are changing so much every patch its hard to find updated information. As soon as I have the time I intend to go back through these videos and tag changes. Rewindxk - Thank you for the quick reply :) I was playing it last night and fiddled around with a few things and found that once I recruited a few mercenary clans I then spoke with a few people in other kingdoms, it allowed me to then try to convince them to join me and did not show the dialogue “I will not listen to such matters while I’m in an army” Some would still say that while others let me try to convince my legitimacy and try to recruit them. Its sad also that we even have to rely on a mod in order for our perks to work as they are intended to.
