December 7th, 2023 patch 1.2 branch update - This has changed massively in recent patches that I plan to do an update. Excluding companions, I have never had a vassal leave me. When they fixed the clan desertion bug, they went overboard so now virtually no one will leave you.

  • @Flesson19

As of 1.8 the amount a vassals and companion clans that are leaving kingdoms is at an alarming rate. I do have messages into the devs to find out if it's intended or a bug in the code. The video is accurate for earlier branches but don't expect these results in 1.8 I will make a follow up video or changed the pinned comment when i get word from the devs on this.

      Any update to this?
It really explains how I lost a newly gotten vassal (who I gave a town/high relation), I bought him with javelins which are only slowly converted to money.
I had a feeling clans get grumpy when not getting a fief, even when they have loads and the one who did get it has few. So when your kingdom is huge, especially with lots of small clans, you'll not keep everyone.
Big clans are nicer anyway with more armies to protect their assets and more chance to grow with the next generation (s). And fewer people to keep happy, right?

Something was changed after the introduction of comapnions clans and i started to see them leaving at negative relation.
I always go the same strategy of recruiting good and fiefless clans from my enemies then giving them a fief pretty fast, that is the first thing to consider and makes them unlikely to leave you.
Then i do my best to keep relations above -50. as i did noticed only the clans i had -50 or more left me.
The solution was to pillage settlements instead of showing mercy, ruducing executins for who uses them also works. and try to keep the clans in the -50 relations category in my army to relase them on an enemy and gain relations.
After this few adjustments i never witnessed a clan leave my kingdoms.
Keep in mind that MERCIFUL leaders don't like executions but love when you show mercy to settlements and they don't mind pillaging
CRUEL leaders don't care about you destroying towns but get upset if you show mercy
DEVIOUS leaders don't mind if you execute.

That idea can solve the problem of losing vassals that you just recruited and mercs. Just barter them... the mercs is easier to send influence if you have a lot. You'll get relations + they will have money, but they run fast of influence.
Normally vassals / mercs will leave you at sieges cause they stop to make money and run out of it. If they are roaming the map they can always fight bandits and make money.

    • @flaviuspoa

Yep, if you see they are poor. Mercs you can give influence or money and vassals money... if they keep fighting they will make their own money and if other kingdoms are paying you tributes too. If you are paying tributes or they can't fight cause you are farming leadership calling everyone to your army, keep an eye on their wealth stats.

I see what you mean but I only ever had 5 one vassal clans in all my hundreds of hours of play time on multiple campaigns. 4 were because they lost their fiefs and I was in multiple wars. The one that I felt the most betrayed was during my first successful campaign the first clan I recruited was Khergit. I gave them 2 castles and 1 town. Everything was going good and I had 100 relation. As soon as the Kuzhait declared war on me Mesui betrayed me and joined them. I think this is because her fiefs were next to them. I beat the heck out of them and asks her to return to my Kingdom. She agreed then she betrayed me and joined Aseria!

So what options do you have to give a clan leader money directly? Via barter? Or are there other mechanisms you can use that don't involve you tracking them down to have a face-to-face interaction?
In any case, I guess this does put some more pressure on you to make sure that your clans are actually doing well and can prosper - which is good. There should be some downsides to focusing all the wealth and power into yourself as the king.

Hi Flesson that is very interesting. Some time ago I went through all the clans in a game the majority were either poor or very poor. I even had a clan member that I had bought a fief off for something like 1.5 million denars and he had spent most of it. So it would have to be a regular donation to the clan member to keep them.

    • @Flesson19
      @Flesson19  2 года назад +5

From our testing and discussions, clan tier plays a huge role, once they get 5 and have 3 parties, then they can bleed money faster so. At the beginning when they have 1 it is so easy to have them actually make good profit. Watching what policies you take also so they don't lose a lot of tax income matters

I have been playing 1.8 beta and either some things have changed or there is more about vassals leaving than what is including in this video.
I lost several vassals with were rich and which I had a good reputation on my endgame playthrough. It seems there is some mechanic of losings vassals regarding the election process of who get a new fief. From what I could observe, if you don't chose a clan over and over when he is one of the three possible options of fief election, there is a chance he will leave. On four separate ocasions when I when on conquering several castles and towns, suddenly one of my vassals left for a new kingdown (and in the process I lost all the fiefs heowned). It took a while for me to have a idead of why this happen. Of course I can still be wrong.

Seems odd though how u can influence a vassal to join ur kingdom from another kingdom by giving them 500k or way more then they turn around in what seems like less than a month and leave ur kingdom for another... either they have a money spending problem or this money issue only applies to companions turned vassal. Ive just seen it way too many times that u pay sooooo much money to recruit a lord and have a decent relationship with them just for them to up and leave u in the near future 😳.
