    Thanks for the video! I’m 17 and just bought my second OBS, an 88 5 speed 4x4. The odometer is broken so I’m going to give this a try. I should probably get an old cluster from the junkyard and familiarise myself with it before I tear into mine lol.

    I got the same year as you, rear differential is clicking, starts good runs good, but recently started turning off in reverse more often, now turns off either in reverse, drive while idle, or in park. Battery recharged, mechanic said everything else was fine, alternator, starter, but the negative terminal had burnt corrosion, driving it back it turned off at the stop light after a minute and a half.

      Is the steering column loose?

    • @chrismorales9440
      @chrismorales9440  Год назад

      I’ve seen the movement of the steering column move the ignition switch enough to turn it off. Tilt only

      Other intermittent engine killers:
      Ignition module
      Ignition timing pickup coil
      Fuel pump
      And last and probably less likely ecm and or PROM

    Disconnect the negative terminal when disconnecting a battery.

    Great video, i have a 1990 Chevy 2500 and the speedometer does not work, ive replaced the speed sensor and the gauge cluster, still no speedo, any ideas what the problem may be ? Thanks in advance

    • @chrismorales9440
      @chrismorales9440  Год назад

      I would use a scanner to monitor the speed input. If the computer sees the speed then the problem is in the cluster. I think the wires for the speed sensor are bare and touching. I have cut the wires back several feet and spliced new wire. Make sure to twist them up like factory. I fixed these trucks at the dealer for many years. That is the most common problem.

    if the MPH doesnt move is that the odometer gear? and is the gear supposed to move freely or is it supposed to be stiff
    took mine apart and its still.

    • @chrismorales9440
      @chrismorales9440  Год назад

      The speedometer is a different operation. You will have to find a repair facility for that, as far as I am knowing. We used to use Jimmy’s Radio back in the day. Who knows now if anybody repairs those. If I do i will do a video

    Is this the fix to the loud gear my cluster has on my 93? The gear sound changes with the rpms, its loud behind the cluster

    • @chrismorales9440
      @chrismorales9440  2 года назад

      Not sure about that. This gear fixes an odometer that doesn’t change when you drive it.

    • @chrismorales9440
      @chrismorales9440  2 года назад +1

      Not sure. You would need a scanner to monitor the vehicle speed input. Then you can determine if it is the sensor or the cluster

    • @chrismorales9440
      @chrismorales9440  Год назад +1

      The tape was to hold the tumblers in the correct position. The plastic lock that held them in place broke into pieces because it was old and brittle.
