Wish the 55 eyepeice wasn't integrated so I could just buy the body. Performance is all that matters to me, it's why I have a Kowa 66A in my pack. Could have gone with Swaro but the glass quality and dual focus knob makes Kowa a clear winner.
He is honest, and I like that. When reviewing products you have to consider who may be paying him. I really think he will call it as he sees it without any encouragement to favor a certain manufacturer. I would purchase on his observations. Please tell me who makes the best non-compact at the mid range price level.
I think your should also include the kowa 553 in your comparison to the razor/swaro/55a, to see if the 553 is still relevant when compared to the razor and how much of an upgrade the 55a is.
I went thru this last year and even found the 553 on dvor for $1200, but ended up going with a 1st gen baby razor. I goes to the range more than my 85mm because it fits in my range bag.

I have the 553 and love it, except for the eye relief. I think Kowa REALLY missed an opportunity with this new model when they didn't make this eyepiece detachable and compliant with their other prominar series scopes. I'm sure it's a technical issue of some kind, but a lost opportunity in my opinion
I’ve had the privilege of looking thru the Kowa TSN 88a. It is simply a brilliant optic. However I cannot get over the aesthetic of the new 55…….it shouldn’t matter but that is one of uglier spotting scope I have ever seen.

Mid range I would look at Maven or Tract.
