- The biggest part of the Super Smash Bros. speculation scene is trying to guess which characters will make the cut. Yet, a lot of people don't seem to understand why their favourite fighters actually made it in, or why they didn't. So in this finale, join NantenJex as he explains why characters didn't make the cut for tha ltest iteration of Super Smash Bros.

I believe that Terry probably was not the only SNK option considered for smash. Sakurai could also considered Kyo or Iori at first but realized that Terry was the mascot of the entire company.
I remember people speculating about Athena as well. I parcitulary would love a Metal Slug character.
It'd be interesting to see how Haohmaru would've been implemented into smash
In an interview with Nintendo Dream, Sakurai revealed that he considered adding Decidueye to SSBU. However, he instead chose Incineroar as he felt that Decidueye would offer nothing new to the fighting styles, moreover, Sakurai had a desire of creating a character with a professional wrestling-based moveset in Smash Bros.
Still upset that Incinaroar was chosen instead of Decidueye because we were damn close at getting a fully evolved grass type starter Pokémon in smash.
While not a Mishima by name, Lars is of the Mishima bloodline and was the protag of Tekken 6 so there's been *four* Mishimas who were protags

Only reason Chrom even made it in was as an Echo Fighter. Rex doesn’t have the same luxury

Loved this entire series, great job! Don’t know if it’s in the cards (these things take more work than people realize), but I would love an eventual Supercut of this series will all the parts in one, big, documentary length video.
As a Castlevania fanatic, I honestly think Sakurai chose _very_ wisely with Simon and Richter over Alucard. Yeah, Alucard is the protagonist of the most well-known game in the series (and one of the playable characters in arguably the hardest game in the NES trilogy), but the lore of Castlevania has always been about the generational fight between Dracula and the Belmont clan. Simon was the posterboy for the franchise during Ultimate's development _and_ the Smash Ballot, with Richter being the protagonist of arguably the most popular game in Japan _as well as_ having a huge role in Symphany of the Night. This - combined with a faithful moveset that borrows elements from each other - allowed for two Belmonts to represent two different eras of Castlevania. Frankly, as a fan, I think that was a brilliant move.
I think people also forget that Ultimate's development and the Smash Ballot both occurred about two years before the Netflix series premiered. Trevor wasn't yet pop culture's de facto Belmont, and Alucard didn't yet have that enormous push in the West to dethrone Simon or Richter.
Damn, man, I'm really sad to see this series come to an end. It's been a blast.
I'd still say that, even after the Netflix animation, Simon is yet to be replaced as THE Belmont. Though idk if you could still consider the castlevania games and show communities as one
10:47 As someone who's been sifting around the files and code to Ultimate since it released, this means nothing, it's garbled strings of Maya files for the Shujin uniform model and the physics baking for Ann's hair animation in Mementos.
Most things relating to DLC characters like stages are usually prefixed with their respective codename, it's not crazy to imagine a developer making a minor spelling mistake with Ann's name (Anne in Japanese) in the same way Mementos is usually spelled "Menentoes" internally, and prefixing her related files with "J" to signify "Jack".
Does that also go for the ponytail bit too?
That's a fairly weird typo considering in removing a letter in one place and adding a letter in another. Possible but, the hair physics thing can easily be explained as them testing the ponytail physics with Ann's twintails. I presume Sakurai and co got a look at an early build of Persona 5 Royal and misinterpreted Kasumi's role in the story. He likely presumed that Kasumi would have been girl Joker (a la P3 Portable) and wanted to integrate her into Joker's character. However, in the review process with Atlus, they corrected this mistake and scrapped this concept. This file was then left over in the process.

Crazy that this series has finally come to an end after all this time, for real, amazing job to you guys with all of these videos! I was always very excited when these released, they are all packed with great info and also lots of entertainment.
I feel like Kasumi was going to be an alt for a very short period of time until Sakurai got a better look at her.
He might’ve assumed she was the female Joker at some point when learning her major role in the game. But when he learned about how different she actually was, he felt like not going with her. (Unless the Japanese ratings board really didn’t like her leotard like many people on Twitter did) That last one was a joke, but it’s not too impossible.
Yeah if she had played more like Joker maybe he would've included her as an alt like Alph. While her design made her look like just a girl Joker version, her actual character is more like the other unique party members in p5.
Her attacks would've been too different from Joker's like her neutral b, up b and more importantly all of her normals which would've been completely different which would require more work than Sakurai probably initially thought, even more than a normal echo like Lucina and Dark Pit.
It’s actually pretty likely Spring Man was considered as DLC, despite being an assist. During Min Min’s presentation Sakurai explained why he choose her. He talked about how during one conversation with Yabuki he was reassured that “everyone was the main character”. So my guess is he probably did at least bring up Spring Man and/or Ribbon Girl as possible candidates.

As much as I love Mythra, and like Pyra, I still wish my boy Rex Rex was playable.
Rex was a really annoying in Xenoblade Chronicles 2 and I'm not really a Xenoblade Chronicles fan I'm more into FINAL FANTASY 7
Yeah I really wanted to see XC2 combat being implemented more faithfully because of how interesting it is. With only Pyra/Mythra it feels like we only get a glimpse of it, i still think Rex as a pokemon trainer fighter would've worked better.

Weird theory but maybe they were going to use Joker and Kasumi's showtime as the final smash since Showtimes were such a big part of Royal so maybe they wanted to promote that at first but backed out because that showtime is a massive spoiler.
That and I could easily see them editing the swing around shot to include whichever fighter Joker unleashed it on.
also this is just a theory but I do believe that crono from chrono trigger was considered at least for a mii costume since vergeben's list of 7 square characters everyone but crono either got in (erdrick, luminary, sephiroth, and sora) or had a role and was considered (slime and geno, I say geno was considered because he was in brawl and sm4sh and due to his popularity probably was again), but no official conformation so take it with a grain of salt
As for Hero, I think it is safe to assume that Hero II would be a problem as well since he does not use magic at all. Hero VI seems to be the only missing hero that didn't have a reason not to be in.
Also, despite Hero VI, VII, IX and X not being in, the fact that Hero (Smash) can use spells/abilities from many different classes may be a nod to tha class system in these specific games since the Hero could also have different classes. In fact lots of spells used in Smash can only be learned by the hero character in VI and VII after learning them as different classes.

Only person from DOA I can think of is maybe Ryu Hayabasa as he’s more known, is more visually safe, and also represents his own series, Ninja Gaiden. Though I’m not really sure how popular Ninja Gaiden is.
This series was amazing. I loved all the episodes, and I think this series deserves to be a way to explain why characters got added or got cut. Thanks for this awesome 3-year journey!
Would’ve been nice if they at least let Kazumi appear as a spirit or stage cameo but I can see why they didn’t.
I would love to see Kasumi in smash one day.
I mean look at Sophie and Evil Ryu. Would've loved to see her in Smash.
@@WinspearUltima Here's the issue, I feel the reason Joker was chosen for Smash is because Arsene was wings, making it easier for Joker to platform. Kasumi has Cendrillon, which works for Persona 5, but for Smash I'm not sure if it would work well as Arsene.
I love that we got two Belmonts but seeing stuff like these always makes me wish we have got Alucard as well since he is on my top 3 favorite characters ever! Also, always wondered why we didn't get more Belmonts as skins just like they made with Hero (maybe because they wanted to highligh Simon's cluny animations from NES era that aren't shared by other characters?)
They probably wanted to shine Richter as an echo rather than limit him to a costume. Plus the other Belmonts all had some issues to be considered:
-Trevor's in game design is identical to Simon with a cape, making it hard to differentiate him visually from Simon during a battle.
-Juste and Christofer are often forgotten and unpopular compared to most characters in the series, even non-Belmont ones like Johnathan Morris, Hector, Soma, Maria Renard and Shanoa.
-Leon's fighting style wouldn't fit the way Simon and Richter were portrayed as he comes from a 3D title where the whip covers a lot of the screen.
-Julius is too thin and old to fit the moveset they went with, and it would be weird to have him when he still hasn't got his main role in the series.
I'm very much looking forwards for the future of the smash series.
I'm personally interested in a reboot.
A lot of people thought that Jane would be a female version of Joker, as there was precedent of adding a female version with Persona 3 Portable. It would be interesting if a female Joker was ever considered for P5 Royal and the code was a reference to a design Sakurai may have seen.

Another thing to mention about Ninjara is that he was the runner-up for the ARMS Party Crash Bash event that ran from November 2018 to June 2019, which Min Min ended up winning.

Sad that the Rhythm Tengoku/Heaven/Paradise representative that was cut from the previous Smash wasnt even considered for Ultimate. If the character WAS Chorus Kids and the issue was multiple characters back then, it would have been solved by this point due to Ice Climbers returning with no 3DS restrictions. Rhythm Tengoku/Heaven/Paradise is one of my absolute favorite Nintendo IPs.
I do hope in a future game Pyra and Mythra get updated or changed to involve Rex more and make him the fighter or do what they initially wanted to do as either way would be more representative of the combat gameplay of the original game.
Or just Giving Pyra Anchor Shot and Gave Her Double Spinning Edge.
Mythra could use some of Noah Arts in Her Normal Moveset.

@DerBear Rex in Xenoblade 3 is a combination of His Entire Party from Blade 2, He is Older and Dual Sword Play like Morag, Has an Eyepatch like Zeke, He is a Mentor Like Vandham and Also his appearance is a call back to Addam.
@DerBear Pyra and Mythra actually would be more or less inspired by those Xenoblade 3 elements.
@Anthony Gerardo Torres Gonzalez but again that wouldn't really represent xenoblade 2s combat gameplay nor would it really represent xenoblade 2 as much as it could. It'd represent xenoblade 3 more than 2. Which I'd say let someone like Noah represent xenoblade 3. Let Rex and Pyra and Mythra represent xenoblade 2.

So you bother to mention Twilight Princess Link but not how Palutena lost nearly 2/3 of her Special options? Unlike the other Custom Specials in Smash 4 (save for the Mii Fighters who had almost all their options return for Ultimate, anyway), all 12 of Palutena's options were pretty much unique. They did combine the functionality of a couple of them for one of her Specials in her Ultimate moveset, but she still lost a lot of rather unique options.

It would have been awesome to have the DQ5 protagonist as a fighter one day. And Kazumi from persona 5 hopefully if there’s a smash bros ultimate deluxe I really want her in the game.
I think Hero V could have worked if he used his dad sword (like he does in the NETFLIX animation) and only used the staff for the smash attacks (using the same animation since he uses both hands to strike). It would be cool tho if each spell made him bring out a specific monster to launch said spell, tho, but then it wouldnt work only as a skin (at least not in a 3D game, I think)

My head canon is that Skull Kid was worked upon for a bit then abandoned with his assets repurposed into the Mii costume, Moon assist trophy and new Termina Field remix.

3. Yu Narukami (P4 protagonist)
4. Someone from P3
5. Labrys or Sho Minazuki

@@erickmaverick3128 If it'd be a Persona 5 character I think Akechi would be best honestly. Or if we're talking a past Persona game I feel Maya would be great since Persona 2 has no mention. As for SMT they'd go with Demi-fiend because they can never stop shilling him.

Link can fire two arrows, just pick up the first arrow you shot from the ground, the press B to fire two at once.

I'm still a bit bitter that Decidueye got cut, I'm personally indifferent towards Incineroar. We would've finally got a Dark Grass type. Hell, they could've saved him as DLC, too.
I'm also disappointed about it. Incineroar is fine and all, but I think having a dedicated archer would have been even more unique and interesting than a wrestler. Yes, there are technically a few archers in the game already, but each of them uses a bow and arrow for exactly ONE attack (two if you count Link's FS). With Decidueye though, they could have built its entire moveset around archery and long range combat, which could have been really cool.
Also, just a tiny nitpick, Decidueye is grass/ghost, not grass/dark.

Like, I love Halo (Halo 3 IS one of my favorite games ever), but it won't happen until the series properly comes to Nintendo. Until proven otherwise, a franchise needs to have games on Nintendo to be represented even at slightest

The best scenarios for Castlevania would have been Simon but with different Belmonts as alternate costumes. These are:
Simon, Simon Kojima, Richter, Richter Symphony, Trevor Kojima, Trevor Anime, Leon and Julius (the first 3 have different costumes because they are the most famous)
Or
Simon, Richter, Trevor Kojima, Leon, Julius, Gabriel, Sonia and Reinhardt Schneider

Super Smash Bros roster gets finalized just before development. The Smash Ultimate base roster was finalized before the launch the Nintendo Switch. The next Smash Bros. game’s roster is not yet finalized.

3:51 still upset that Sakurai pick Incinaroar instead of Decidueye because we were so close at getting a fully evolved grass type starter Pokémon as a playable. I was Really hoping that Rillaboom from Sword and Shield could join for smash bros ultimate dlc so that we can fully evolved grass type starter missing resolved but unfortunately He didn't make it as part of fighter pass vol 2 and also no fighter pass vol 3. Now I really hoping that Meowscarada the new fully evolved grass type starter Pokémon from gen 9 Scarlet and Violet or Possibly Fully evolved Grass type Starter Pokemon from gen 10 will join the next smash bros game and also just in time for the 30th anniversary of the Pokémon Franchise.
For a character to "get cut" they would've needed to be in the roster. (Not just considered)
But those in the thumbnail never made it in, so they can't get cut because there's nothing to cut!

I seriously hate that there's a slot left open for a new Pokémon every game even when the new Pokémon games are still very early in development. It's just a wasted slot for a series that already has the most fighters and doesn't need the marketing rather than adding literally anyone else.

Very few cut characters we got for Ultimate in comparison. Perhaps Decidueye will gets its chance if they ever include the Hisuian Trainer in the next game have its Hisuian form as part of their moveset.

I don’t buy Sakurai statement on Incineroar. It was obviously the Pokemon pushed by TCPIamd Gamefreak. Plus its wrestling moves are hardly unique as several characters use wrestling moves already.
Sakurai wanted a dedicated wrestler, Incineroar was a wrestler, what's so hard to believe about that

Hell, you could attempt to claim TPC wanted to promote Incineroar....but that still would be off since it would have come down to Mimikyu, Lycanroc, or even goddamn BEWEAR, since those three got waaaaay more things than Incineroar did as far as being "pushed". Fuck, ROWLET got more push than its own final evolution and even Incineroar.
Sometimes you just have to take what is being said at face value and not come up with some conspiracy just because you don't like the result.

What makes Incineroar standout from the others is that it's a dark type. Both neutral B and Side B are Dark type moves, something that the other Pokemon Reps don't have.
We already have Ivysaur to represent Grass type.

I think saying The girl is equivalent to pra mai is blatantly bsd journalism uncharacteristic of this series. Ae the time it was found we had all of the context we needed to decide that it potentially representative of the girl from p5r because she had no name at the time that was inserted to the code. And it literally fits the description

Pra and Mai didn't come with sny kind of additional context at the time that added to their legitimacy inn any direction. And saying that RSE's release adds to he idea is blatantly stupid and foolish aswell because if that's you're argument then it's because it is literally their name in Japanese which is way fucking more concrete than that their game came out
Tldr pretending that a situation that we have info about is even vaguely similar to one which we have 0 info about does not fucking make any sense
