We've found beets tolerate some light freezing while still in the ground, so we'll still be harvesting in Nov / Dec before the ground really starts to freeze up. (carrots, too!)
@@TheRipeTomatoFarms Hi brother , love your vids. I think my problem was I didnt direct sow and the beets stayed two inches tall for five weeks then 27° nights and caterpillars told me the season was over but the greens grew and the beet bulb was non existent. Next time direct sowing . 🙏
Lovely beets this year, didn't get the greens though as the neighbor's rabbit paid an unscheduled visit. It nicked the beet greens, 2 types of lettuces, some pea shoots and a nice bit a spinach. At least I know it got a good rounding of vitamins. rofl
Just a heads up too...if your beets are showing a bit of dryness, just pop them in some cool-ish water for a few minutes before cooking and they will be fabulous again.
@@TheRipeTomatoFarms No. I planted them in a grow bag that had something else in it before, so maybe I didn't amend properly. I'm also not giving up. Will check periodically for bulb formation. I added bone meal to the bag of daikon that were looking rather anemic and I swear they look a little more hefty at today's garden visit.

I'm with you on that Dave...just leaving them in the ground is a great no-nonsense way to store them!
You seem to have forgotten my favorite beet storage method. Pickling.
Thanks bro' i was wonderin bout that. Started the beets too late n didnt get any beets but awesome greens. Theres always next year. ✌️
Here's to better luck next year George! Maybe a spring harvest?

Ha ha that's how I feel too Emy!!
I am the only one that like beets too. BUT, I will change their minds before I leave this good earth. lol
@@sandyhayden-bristow1382 Ha ha...on a mission! My new favorite way to eat them is shredded raw in sandwhiches and wraps!
@@TheRipeTomatoFarms Oh ho...never tried that, will give it a go. Thanks for the tip. =)
@@sandyhayden-bristow1382 definitely!
Good video!
Good day mate I love to pickle my beetroot

@@TheRipeTomatoFarms if you haven't you should try them

That is excellent! Thanks for the beet tips!
What type of crisper? I love your videos. You have taught me so much about gardening. Thank you!
Thanks Randi! I just use my regular fridge crisper...the closed one for high humidity. 🙂
Thank you! I thought about that but wasn't sure you weren't talking something else. Thanks!
Jeff, caught your video 20 hours late. I don’t like beets, don’t grow em, but still watching. Keep em comin’.
Don't forget pickeling!
What is a crisper? And thanks you for helping me with my gardening in SC
High humidity chamber in most modern fridges.

Ha ha very well fed rabbit!
@@sandyhayden-bristow1382Perfect Sandy....wonder if that works with carrots and turnips as well?
If you're a meat eater and that was a meat rabbit, you should ask for a quarter, haha!
@@TheRipeTomatoFarms Never tried it with those, as I blanche and freeze right away. But never could hurt to give it a try!
I have found my beets store better without turning “wimpy” if I place them inside a ziploc bag before putting them into the crisper.
Gotta try that! Must be locking in that moisture....
My beets only grew leaves. Will have to get the soil right next time.%
Dang had that happen before... Did you plant in the spring?

What is a crisper?
Omg. Just watched the whole thing and I still have NO IDEA HOW YOU STORE THEM? One part says dry the other with a moist towel paper?
I AM SO CONFUSED
I canned my beets this year.
Oh that's awesome Charmaine! I haven't taken that deep dive quite yet...was it hard?
Put Beet bulbs in what? A "crisper?"
What's that?
I have a question about my garlic 🧄: my late October garlic is already sprouting! Is it a good thing or a bad thing??
