      Same here! I've tried different varieties, different timing, different soils. Nothing works 🤨 They germinate fine, grow 2 or 3 inches, most of the leaves turn red and that's it. No more growth, no tap root, nothing. Last year I left them in all winter. The leaves grew a bit more, but that's all.

    • @patriciatinkey2677
      @patriciatinkey2677 Год назад +1

      Lots of commercially grown Beets are put through an automated wash process that makes them
      Look more tasty in the store, but actually shortens their shelf life. Remember that Jeff said not to wash them!

    • @TheRipeTomatoFarms
      @TheRipeTomatoFarms  Год назад +1

      Its exactly as patricia said....washing them just ruins the storage process. Keep them dry, remove the greens, and just brush off excess dirt. They store for a LONG time.

      Hey, thanks for watching! For beets, I'd go containers... You can grow unlimited amounts in large containers. Then, find a crop the maggots don't like and cycle them through for a couple of seasons. Once clear, move back to beets. Also grow cover crops over winter to prevent egg laying
