The Brighter Day was like The Guiding Light in being a radio soap opera that ran on both radio and TV for a few years--so you get the announcer here not just announcing the show, but explaining what is happening as the scene opens. (They didn't broadcast on radio and TV simultaneously; they did the radio show from a radio studio in the morning, then went across town to their TV studio to perform the same script, both performances live. Then they would rehearse the script for the next day's program.)
@@junejones9819 I love the soap opera genre I have a soap encyclopedia and it's interesting how many shows there were and how cheaply they were produced but people watched because they were about the characters. I watch them now and I am so bored tho, the dialogue is stilted and woke and they lack romance.
Watched Lois Nettleton a few nights ago in a Dr. Kildare episode titled, My name is Lisa, and I am Lost, ....what an incredible performance. The ending was pure gold.
Wow, I love Lois Nettleton and had no idea that she had appeared on a daytime soap opera! One of my very favorite "Twilight Zone" episodes is called "Midnight Sun" starring our Lois. She had a very successful acting career which lasted for many decades, starting in the 1950's. Bless her heart and memory!
@Draper Scott i am struggling to see her due to the darkness of the old and aged black and white film, i think? Thats why i knew who it was. Blame it on a tiny screen and a 70 year old kinescope and my weary eyes lol!
Thank you. Nice to see Lois Nettleton and Hal Holbrook. And that scene with Grayling (Hal) and his minister father is fun as you could tell there were some screwups they were trying to get through - the entertainment of live (or live on tape).
Cheer is still being made, but it no longer contains the "Blue Magic Whitener." (Ironically, they took the bluing out after people complained about stains on wet laundry)
I've heard of Shasta, I never knew it was a hot cream shampoo hair treatment, but I knew of Shasta as a soda pop drink. Can you imagine what Shasta hot cream shampoo hair treatment & soda pop drink have in common? It would sound like a hat could take a shower & cola would splash all over on you. I'll settle for a root beer float & drink all of it for a clean body.
Thank you for sharing this episode from "Brighter Day". But I’m curious. Was the footage cropped in that format when it was originally on the Home video releases?

I would love to see an episode featuring Patty Duke. She played on this soap right before she starred in THE MIRACLE WORKER on Broadway.
I wonder if they let her histrionics fly? She did some truly crazy work as a child actress. K
Wow!! Didn't know that!! Thank U!!
I have the book 'The Encyclopedia of Daytime Television' and it's great actually viewing these rare shows.

It doesnt look like her at all, but her voice was unmistakeable for me. How cool!!

Back when motherhood was considered an honorable career.
I never heard of this soap before
My mom watched this everyday after school
Ty for sharing this. Wish I had seen the show originally. Hal Holbrook and Lois Nettleton. What could be better?

Lois Nettleton (playing Patty--or is it Patsy?)! I always loved Lois Nettleton.
I think a soap like this could be popular now people are searching for a brighter day
Yes, I totally agree! To everyone, please remember to put God first and He'll take care of everything else in our lives!
@travis082185 Amen!

It also took your hair out after a while too lol
How do I know if the copyright of this soap is for sale?
Mrs. Hamilton doesn't look that far along...
Lucille Ball said not only does TV now show expectant mothers, but how they got that way!
Love the Bible read from King James Version .
My mom was in the sodality, in the 60s
Some churches still use KJB
it wasnt until after 1970, that others were used
I collected dimes for Easter Seals.
That was back then, and this is now. Today Easter seals is now online.
Did they do another show for the west coast or was a kinescope shown?
A kinescope was shown 👍👍
They had to start rehearsals for the next day's episode. No time for two performances.
