Actually the ratings were so bad during this time that "ABC" decided to cancel GH in late 1978, but they had nothing to replace it yet. So they called Gloria Monty (A famous theater director) and asked her if she would come in for just a year. They wanted the ratings to be up at least a lil, so GH would not go out in disgrace. Of course as we all know now, Gloria Monty would completely change the course of history with L&L. I got sucked in by the Laura, Scotty, & Bobbie triangle. Loved seeing this. Thank you for posting. Watched GH On & Off for all these years. Now retired - I watch religiously every day. Glad to hear about the "Laura Vining" Story.
Part of the “Who Killed Phil Brewer?” storyline. He got bumped off in December 1974 (bludgeoned with a rock paperweight). At first Jessie was accused but then Diana confessed and produced the missing paperweight covered with blood. She thought that her estranged husband Dr. Peter Taylor had killed Phil to protect their marriage. Meanwhile Nurse Augusta McLeod was pregnant by Peter and decided to keep the baby. DA Ross Jeanelle (Tony Dow) was determined to find the killer! Meanwhile Lesley was torn between Dr. Joel Stratton and millionaire businessman Cameron Faulkner. But Joel had a secret- he suspected he had the same heart disease that claimed the life of his older brother Owen a few months earlier (and Owen had fallen in love with Diana). And how did things turn out? SPOILER ALERT: the killer was none other than Augusta, who killed Phil in self defense because he was attacking her and she had to defend her unborn baby. She ultimately went to prison for a short time, gave her child up for adoption and left town. Joel Stratton also left town because of his health, leaving the field open for Cam Faulkner to marry Lesley. But shortly afterwards Lesley was called to the bedside of Doris Roach, a former GH nurse who was dying. She confessed that years ago she helped Lesley’s father Dr. Walter Williams switch her newborn daughter with the dead daughter of Jason and Barbara Vining. Dr. Williams didn’t want his daughter’s predicament ruin her chances as a medical student (yet she became pregnant by one of her instructors Gordon Gray!). Nurse Roach informed Lesley that her daughter was still alive, starting Dr. Faulkner to search for a little girl she did find- and her name was LAURA…..
And Leslie went on to marry her colleague, Rick, in the later 70's episodes. Richard Dean Anderson played Rick's brother, Jeff, also a doctor. God! Did the girls have a crush on HIM back then!
Jane brings back memories of her and Howie. Though seeing this now and hearing her voice, I almost thought the actress playing Jane was the same as the actress who played Mary Williams on Y&R.

This was before soaps and other daytime shows were preserved. ABC always had kinescopes of soaps GH, All My Children, One Life to Live, and programs such as American Bandstand until the mid-70s.

@@trewestbrook7404 I really don't understand why it is still in black and white by '75. A mere four or five years from this would be Luke and Laura. I know you can watch scenes and characters from just six months apart and there'll be an entirely different focus and storyline going on. Again, Dark Shadows, which aired right with General Hospital, was in color, and GH was still black and white? I've watched early seventies clips from other soap operas and they'd be in color. Wonder why this one held out for so long? Must have thought the color was going to be a fad.
I forgot in its early days GH had the hip non traditional organ background music . Not the serious solemn church like organ music like the other soaps ,
I'd almost swear that is the Legendary William Daniels in the Scene with Miss Denise Alexander. Which if that is the case that is quite ironic. William Daniels played a Schoolteacher on "Boy Meets World. And Miss Rebecca Herbst Guest Starred on that ABC Sitcom as a coed named "Jill Hollinger."🤔😉🎤👨⚕️👨🎓👩⚕️💃📺B.W.
Every time the camera pans to show someone else enter the scene around that hospital counter or somebody walks off or again, they enter, that blonde nurse crosses in the shot. She's obviously supposed to make it look "bustling" or busy, but she really does stand out doing it a bit too much. I can't believe this is '75. I wondered why Dark Shadows didn't affect other soap operas when DS was getting all the high ratings. DS had gone color about a decade before this. I guess the feeling was this was being more realistic.
Mymother & I used to watch these older episodes - all about the hospital. I disliked it when the writers had to include the political & controversial themes!
But Patricia Berry you DO have a baby on Days! You named her Hope. Interesting how Denise and Patricia left Days to come to GH. At least they were both filmed in LA.

I started watching GH in college in around 1978. The background music in this clip is SO CHEESEY, lol, as is the opening theme. I was quite surprised, however, to discover the conversation about an abortion on daytime TV in 1975. Pretty treacherous, shocking storyline and material back in those days. Very interesting, to say the least.
@@AdaraBalabusta Of course it was, but it wasn't discussed OPENLY on daytime TV. In the 70's, maybe your Parents will remember, interracial marriage and homosexuality weren't even ALLUDED to, not even during nighttime programming. I remember when Alex on "Taxi" was ACTING gay in a gay bar ( 1978 or so ), and before that, Jody ( hilariously played overboard by Billy Crystal ), the first gay character on network TV, on "Soap". But neither of those characters were taken seriously. My, my, how things have changed, y'know?
If you remember, All My Children had an abortion storyline in 1973 when Erica Kane underwent one. She was modeling at the time and just gotten married. Her new husband wanted kids, but she wasn't ready to be a mother because of her career, which at the time, it was still a no-no for a model to be pregnant, let alone be a mother. So by that time, it was legal, and soaps began to follow AMC's lead.
1975 wasn’t the Stone Age, I had a debate that year in 9th grade about abortion. Sex drugs and rock and roll started in the ‘ 70s, those times had a lot of controversial things going on.

@@2up3rm4n1 The show feels completely different to me. Almost unrecognizable.
Not the serious solemn church like organ music like the other soaps ,
Doesn't sound hip to me, sounds like a vampire movie, still it's great
I'd almost swear that is the Legendary William Daniels in the Scene with Miss Denise Alexander.
This seems a lot earlier than 1975.
DS ended in 1971 I believe
@@brookehanley3659 Yes! YES! It did! IT REALLY DID!
This episode was originally in color too but ABC recorded over the old videotapes so only black and white kinescopes survive.
I used to make fun of this show everyday while I watched it😹
Mymother & I used to watch these older episodes - all about the hospital. I disliked it when the writers had to include the political & controversial themes!
That is Wally Cleaver. (Tony Dow).
Pre Quatermaines and luke /laura storylines
Wish I could jump through time and land right there. The world is so sick and perverse now.
I hear you, looking for the rapture to happen:). Even though it may sound crazy to some, but definitely looking 🎉😊
What did every one think of GH moving into color? I was born in 1979 and only watched GH,OLTL in 1990's.
Wow, Wally Cleaver is in this.
But Patricia Berry you DO have a baby on Days! You named her Hope. Interesting how Denise and Patricia left Days to come to GH. At least they were both filmed in LA.
Unfortunately the beginning of the end. It was great up til this point. IMO.
I am surprised it was still black and white in 1975 with the old timey opening. When did it go color?
Nice hairdo, Lesley.
Looks like Marlo Thomas
The look was fashionable at the time. I cut my hair like hers and applied my makeup similarly. ❤
Thank you for sharing this classic GH episode! Just a quick question, Is there a way I can purchase your SOAPERS home video releases…. for my personal collection? If not, I understand. Thank you!
They are currently out of stock, but all of our Soapers releases will eventually be uploaded to the Moviecraft Inc. channel.
@@MoviecraftInc - Oh, ok! Thank you very much for the information.
@@MoviecraftInc That will be great! Can't wait to watch all of the classics from Gh 1970's.
Can you please put up Mark Hamill's episodes from General Hospital. Have been wanting to see his pre-Star Wars days! He played Kent Murray. Early 70s.
Unfortunately I do not have any more films of General Hospital to post. Always looking for more though.
@@MoviecraftInc well if you ever find any missing Doctor Who from the sixtees, let us know as well. I think it's like 97 missing episodes. Keep up the great work!
Omg - is that Leslie?
Denise Alexander can read the phone book and you'd be riveted to your seat.
It feels like they haven't even rehearsed these scenes... like their first take is the final one, haha...
Interesting. Abortion was legal and increasingly common in the US in 1975. ❤
I always thought Morgan Fairchild played Augusta McCloud, who's the lady playing her here?
Judith McConnell, best known as Sophia Capwell on “Santa Barbara”!
It was the great Judith McConnell. My favorite actress ever
No Morgan Fairchild Was Still Playing Jennifer Pace Phillips On SEARCH FOR TOMORROW During That Time.
@@Avatar610 GENERAL HOSPITAL Head Writers During That Time Was Bridget And Jerome Dobson Before Going On To Write For GUIDING LIGHT The Same Year In 1975.
@@christopherslappey1681 it was a family thing since Bridget was the daughter of GH creators Frank and Doris Hursley!
12:07 Bonnie Franklin must be her clone.
❤ omg. Gh. Fifty. Years ago. 4 24
This cannot possibly be a 1975 episode....so sorry but this one is only a 30 minute show and we all know later that GH was an hour or about 45 minutes without commercials....lol!! Plus in 1975 Scotty, Luke and Laura and more that I can't remember were in it.... Scorpio and Anna were all in the spy game....this must have been 1965.....so love it anyways...❤❤❤
From a google search: In the last few weeks of 1974, a press release announced some excellent news for fans of sitcom siblings. Tony Dow, the guy who played Wally on Leave It to Beaver would return to the small screen. This time, though, the drama would be even thicker, as Dow joined the cast of the daytime soap opera General Hospital.
The girl on the front picture is Augusta McCloud. Does anyone else remember her?
Who is Jane's mother?
