Many people just assume An Trương came back to Vietnam because he couldn’t land a job in the U.S. Sure, he didn’t graduate from a STEM school, but he still went to an Ivy university. The comment section is flooded with judgements on why he is back to Vietnam, which are mainly the concern of young people. 10 years later, all you do is to live a good life wherever you are on this planet. When there is the separation between which place is a better place to live only enriches human’s hate and greed over others. Be in the “good” place until you are the only ones left.
There is so much jealousy and judgment in this comment section of people speculating he “had to” go back or was only able to go back because of his rich family. What’s wrong with having family support or the reason of his departure was due to visa issues? Does hating on him improve your own lives?
Cool talk. I understand many would look at Truong with certain prejudice as he is obviously possibly more privileged than many. But that does not exclude the day to day struggles and the reality in wanting to work in something creative. I think it becomes more and more a trend to navigate towards more and more creative jobs. Not everyone gets to stay, nor wants to stay in the US. My experience with my Chinese and Indian students: 1- The very rich few who can stay via their family wealth (many legal channels with money) 2- The very bright and ambitious who aspire to be like Jensen Huang, Sundar Pichai, or Satya Nadella, etc. to make it big in America. If they don't have money, they can get a company to sponsor them for H-1B visa (National Interest Waiver), and I have written quite a few letters for those. Usually only for MS or PhD 3- The resourceful ones who want a life in America for whatever reasons: they will get married to a citizen or PR. 4- Those of category 3 above but are not successful, and have to return to their own country 5- Those return to their country voluntarily because of personal reasons, e. g. many are from wealthy families who must go back to handle the family business, or children of CCP officials went back to have high positions in the gov for example.
I don’t know man, I returned to Vietnam not because of any of the reasons you stated. I just enjoy life in Vietnam more than abroad, being closer to my family and friends. There were a total of 122,101 international students participating in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) OPT in 2023.
