My first trip to Nha Trang was in 1990. Took all day to get up there from Saigon. It was getting dark as we approached the city and the driver started speeding up. I asked him why. He said because his headlights were not working! Now the trip takes about 6 hours on mostly modern highways. Nha Trang is a wonderful place with great people and for someone looking to get to the most interesting places then working with someone local like this man is the way to go. I have been very lucky. I met a Vietnamese girl in New York in 1976 and married in 1977. We moved to Saigon full time in 1995. I am now 70 years old and retired and still married having just celebrated our 47th anniversary. Obviously… Vietnam and even Nha Trang despite its beautiful mountains and beaches is not for everyone. Test the waters before selling your house but if anything like me you will love it here. I only made my first trip out of Vietnam in the last five years recently but not to NYC but rather to India for a tour of Rajasthan. It’s not that I have any particular problem with America. Hi Dan, Charlie from Boston USA here. 61 year old biker from the northeast. Retired at 55. I was down in Mexico the last couple of years. But Asia was calling me and I was in Hanoi November and December. I am coming back next month. I will drive from Hanoi with a friend of mine down to Danang. She knows her way around very well. I would love to meet that guy. I have to come back to Boston for the summer, but if I love Danang I will return and get a place near the Beach. I would absolutely like that guy to show me around Vietnam. I will look him up next month. He shouldn’t be hard to find he had a good energy I had a bike in Mexico. driving was not a problem. I got my groceries my laundry, and made my way to the gym and the beach. I even had some nice rides in the mountains and along the coast .Driving looked crazy in Hanoi. But I would give it a whirl in Danang. That guy seems to know his way around Thanks for everything you do brother. Peace.

The food, although it is good is cooked in a lot of oil and salt. I put on 6 pounds and I go to the gym five days a week. There is a very big language barrier. And I spent 4000 American dollars flying here twice in the last six months. I can rent a house in Mexico for one year for 4000. . I will only be in America for one week and I found a flight down to Mexico from Boston for 170 American. I can fly to see my children in New York in California from Mexico for that same price. Mexico ticks alotta boxes for me to settle. I will get another bike down there and I have friends down there. They are currently looking for a small house near the beach for me to rent. I would love to come back to Vietnam one day such a beautiful country and beautiful people. Peace🙏
Yep, Vietnamese people have their special quirks, but imo after travelling and living in so many places, Vietnamese culture and mentality is one of the best, if not the best in the world.
I was stationed in Nha Trang in 1969. It was beautiful then, beaches, fishing, the offshore islands, good weather. After a couple of months I was transferred to Danang. He's right about the weather there. As I recall, the monsoon season starts in Sept-Oct and last for several months. High humidity, daily rains, muddy (back then), but Danang had a beautiful beach (China Beach) that was nice later in the year. I am very glad that relations between Americans and Vietnamese are good. The Vietnamese are a fine people, hard working and family oriented.

@@Byron4RollTide ….I am Vietnamese living in Houston, Texas since 1975. I have returned to VN since 2010….I stayed in Ho Chi Minh City from 2015 - 2018….and came back. That was my longest. Let me summarize: Ho Chi Minh City is very crowded and polluted, but you can find EVERYTHING there. Too HOT! Small cities like Vỉnh Long are CUTE and sparse, it’s QUIET living there! Da Lat is like San Francisco weather!! Perfect year round (because it is up in the mountains), but things are more expensive. Phu Quoc island is huge and seafood abundance but super super expensive. Stay away from Ha Noi. I have NOT been to Da Nang! However I plan to go there this year for two months. I know it’s VERY HOT from May - August. High = 104F….Low = 75F…So I try to go in September (start of rainy season). The best time is December- March (weather is gorgeous; High = 75F…Low = 65F). I am scoping out a place to retire. Food is cheaper than HCMC. However, because it is a smaller city…most will get bored fast…especially when the weather gets HOT in the Summer. Nha Trang is similar to Da Nang but the beach waters there are not as pretty. I just got my VN passport (after 15 years of travel). I don’t have to do a VISA run anymore. I can now buy property there. The U.S. is getting violence with illegals coming into Texas!

I think it is so cheap if you are woman. BUT try to travel Da nang or Nha Trang 1 month. Try to get food from local market, live in homestay not hotel. You also become a english teacher here. Vietnam needs more teachers
The "cuckoo test" with circles, apples and oranges (even with lemons) is EASY. It gets more difficult when they ask for the number of bananas or pineapples because their shapes are irregular and the pictures are overlapping on top of each other in black lines, sometimes like 12 of them !!

I'm surprised I don't know your guest. I got here in "89"Been here 35 years. Back then American's weren't allowed to travel to Vietnam. Trade embargo. It was like going to Cuba 10 years back. Secret police dressed up like cyclo drivers followed us everywhere. All the expats at that time would meet at the Apocalypses now bar on Dong Du street at 8pm. My friend and I were the only American's there. Then it moved to Mac Thi Buoi st, Now it's a big place on Thi Sac st. Back then Saigon was a paradise. Few cars, few bikes, many Ox carts and cyclos, still had the old blue and yellow Renault taxis we rode in during the war, none of the old hotels had changed since "75" Clean air, clean streets and the Vietnamese loved us as soon as they figured out we weren't Russians but were American. I run Big Daddy's axe throwing club in Saigon, have photos from back in the day, customers love looking at them and trying to figure out where they were taken. Most expat customers are teachers, don't get may tourists, being in D-2 we aren't on the tourists routes. Nha Trang used to be my favorite city too until the Russians and then Chinese rolled in. Vietnam is a great place to retire.

There is still lot of animosities for me in Vietnam. There is no freedom at all. You talk trash or even crack a joke about Ho Chi Minh you will end up in jail. unlike US .!!!!! When people bring US dollars to one of the poorest country like Vietnam to live or vacations yes that is pretty nice and beautiful at the same time too many hungers and poverty people surrounding you. Facts.

I am a Vietnamese, living in America most of my adult life and haven't got a chance to go back for more than 3 decades. VN is always in my mind and in my heart. It's so lovely to hear Dan, see what he is doing, and read all the positve comments from others about VN and Vietnamese people. Thank you for sharing those loving thoughts and lovely experiences with a kind heart.
Peace.
Just go to his Facebook page. First link in the notes below the video.
Go to Ha Giang in spring. Your heart and your mind will get somethings.
@@nang8683 I am flying out in the morning, brother. I may have checked it out there if I had the time I appreciate you looking out for me. I loved Vietnam. I did fly down to Danang and I rode in the mountains & along the coast, I loved it . I went too many beautiful destinations too many to mention I have Vietnamese friends here, I will tell you there were many pros during my nine weeks here. cost-of-living number one. Medical and dentists were great here. No crime nobody shooting dope on the corner no homelessness. I am from Boston. I have to step over that stuff to get into my doctor The people were curious, here very inquisitive, gracious, and kind. I have never felt so welcomed. Peace🙏
His tours must be great!
Yep, Vietnamese people have their special quirks, but imo after travelling and living in so many places, Vietnamese culture and mentality is one of the best, if not the best in the world.
Great Energy through this interview! KTM’S TOO 👍
I get a good vibe from this interview. Both inspiring and informative. Thank you for sharing.
Vietnam amaze me every time. It’s great to see you find your happiness in a country to like sir.
I lived in Nha Trang for 5 years and met my wife there. We now have 2 children and go back to Vietnam every year. We will retire there eventually.
Great interview. Denny really enjoys life in Nha Trang - a nice city.
I’ll be in that area in June and would absolutely love doing a motorcycle tour.Does he rent bikes or do I need to rent one on my own? I do not facebook so how can I contact Denny?
Email a freind that does Facebook with his link above. Tell them to message him and ask for his Nha Trang phone number. All I have his Faceebook link. Sorry.
I went to Nha Trang from Cam Ranh Bay once on a bus in 1971. Holiday I think.

God bless you. I love the way you express your openness to exchange cultural outlooks. You are wise, and I need to learn from this gentleman.
I was born in Nha Trang, which is my favorite place in Vietnam.
I was stationed near quy nhon during Vietnam war in a area called phu Tia west of quy nhon near the intersection we called it where highway 19 and highway 1 were this was in April 1969 to august 1969 I was in a small infantry unit..delta company 58th infantry we were protecting a ammunition base depot up highway 19 a little way up from the intersection also we helped protect a fuel tank farm near quy nhon..I was at that same beach as in his video a few times we called it red beach..quy nhon really changed unbelievable would like to visit some day..
You will be surprised now. Have fun!

Denny's life experiences is so rich and his outlook and respect for the country he's in now is so commendable..plus he puts it in such real funny ways 😅😊
Yes, he is a rare breed. Not everyone sees the locals so clearly.
FYI: Nha Trang's other unique distinction other than having the best climate is that is offers the only official full service yacht marina in Vietnam. So if a boater/sailor retiree wants to settle in VN and sail up and down VN. Nha Trang is the place to make your homebase.
Im from Iowa. I may be coming to DN in Feb. love to meet up with you! I’ve been to VN 3 times. Stayed in little Da Bac the first time in the village with no running water or air conditioning. Now I want to find a very quiet and comfortable place. No more roughing it with barking dogs, roosters and people yelling at each other.
Do you have a suggestion for a good place to rent that fits this bill in DN?

Nha Trang has mild winters. Does it get cold in Da Nang.✌️
No….winter is perfect
@@CanTho2022 What’s your favorite. Nha Trang or Da Nang.
@@CanTho2022 Thank you very much for your detailed information! I like what I hear about VN, too, but are you not concerned about it being a communist country? Thanks.
@@lastdance2006 …..don’t know why my comment got deleted! It is a Communist country….you need to be cautious. Try NOT to buy any apartment! Just rent. If something bad happened, then you can leave without losing the property. Meanwhile, enjoy how cheap everything is….and how much money save by living there….

Wow, Nha Trang has changed a lot since i was there last in 2001! Is the Rainbow bar (i believe that was the name) and their dive shop and boat tour still around? I'm hoping to be back in Southeast Asia in a couple of years, and that bike tour sounds like a lot of fun. Doesn't Vietnam now have a 1 year visa for American citizens?
They are talking about it. Not sure if it is live yet.
Rainbow bar and some shop there is close .. nothing there now bro , now is emty place

Dan, can you make a video of the apartments maybe the layout and average cost just to get an idea. I know it will vary by price but I'd like to get a picture. Thanks,
