I got an airbrush for christmas and after watching loads of tutorials I was very nervous to use it! However, your video was so helpful and once I started I couldn't get enough. Thank you for sharing this incredible video and helping me make my first ever airbrushed galaxy cake. I hope to find many more airbrushing videos on your page :)
Yay +charlotte boyne, congrats on your new airbrush! That is very exciting ;D you will be addicted haha. you are very welcome! I would love o see your galaxy cake if you are keen on sharing ;) xx
Love watching your tutorials going back to the years before I was just subscriber and actually decorating cakes thank you for sharing your teaching me a lot keep on caking
I just made one for my husband's birthday it was great working with the airbrush your is much better than main thank you so much for the tutorial love it .Rosie's Desserts
Hi, Rosie. That cake looks absolutely beautiful and elegant. You really amaze we with your amazing talent and your inspiring narration. You really put a lot of love and care into your gorgeous cakes. Keep those cakes coming, Rosie. You totally rock. I can't wait to see more Christmas themed cakes in the next few days, including the Nutcracker one.Your videos are always a ray of sunshine with your special talent. See ya really soon, Rosie. :-)
Hi +Jennifer Lowe, fondant absorbs the colour much better than buttercream would, although the buttercream recipe I use is a crusting recipe so it should still take the airbrushing. You might find if you apply too heavily too quickly that small micro droplets start to form. I would add the colour on gradually if using a buttercream cake :)
I LOVE this. I'm going to try this technique for my grandson's 4th bday cake for this weekend. I hope it looks as nice as yours does. any tips? Thanks so much for sharing! xx
Hi +Maris Rios, thank you for your comment! I would just recommend adding on the buttercream "stars" as close to the event as possible. After a day or two the white buttercream starts to absorb the colour and becomes kind of purple :)
hello beautiful cake. my question is the fondant wedding cake I am making have fresh fruit in it, and will be in the fridge, will the airbrush weep after is warms up. thank you.
Hi Rosie! I hope you can help me. I need to air brush a fondant covered cake navy blue but she wants me to add gold Sprinkles on top as well. How to I apply the gold Sprinkles without it getting colored in navy blue? Should I air brush first then apply the Sprinkles? If so, what should I use to stick the Sprinkles onto the cake without hurting the navy blue color?
hi I'm planning to do a galaxy cake for my husbands birthday, but I have a couple of question about airbrush . can I do airbrush and put the cake in the fridge? some people say the color will change or fondant will sweat and affect the colors. also do u let the fondant dry a bit before airbrushing or it doesn't matter?. please let me know as soon as possible. Thanks
Madam can you please shed some light on these colors in the airbrush? Is it a mix of some sorts? Like for Lustre colors we mix it with vodka. Or is it just the americolors/oil based colors as you mentioned?
Hello. I was looking into purchasing the Iwata-Medea Studio Series Ninja Jet Single Piston Air Compressor. Is that the one you have? I was also wondering how to do know which air brush is compatible? I was looking at the Iwata-Medea Neo Gravity Feed Dual Action Airbrush N4500.
Hi Jessica, that is so exciting!!! Good luck guys :D Where abouts are you opening the bakery? My advise is make cakes for display in styles that are trending and always change up the designs. People love to see new creations and it's always nice to come back and see something different. right now the drip and loaded cakes are taking the trend by storm. My favorite color is purple ;) And advertise lots! If you need any help I am happy to share your bakery on my facebook page xx
nice job! have you ever thought of using stencils from artool they have a mini set by Gerald mendez it's the texture fx mini set would be great for this galaxy cake. look him up here on RUclips
Hi +Aggie Alex, usually I cover all my cakes with buttercream before I add on the fondant. You can also use Swiss meringue buttercream under fondant, just be sure it's nice and cold so it doesn't mishape when applying the fondant :)
Hi +Ashaa Joyce, I bought mine while I was at a cake decorating expo. It's the Iwata airbrush system. I would definitely recommend it :) It's a good quality machine.
+Nathea Pilongco +I bought mine from a cake expo that was in Melbourne at the time, but like +Terry Fox said, they are available online :) Cake decorating specialty stores will stock them as well.
Hi I tried mixing my gel colour with vodka for air brushing, the problem is it smudging, am I doing some thing wrong?? Sud I use isopropyl alcohol? Is this safe? Thanks!!
You should never mix gel colours with alcohol, that is why you had an issue. You must use colours which are made especially for airbrushing, Americolor sells a large variety of colours
+Fishie Princess like seriously? I'll take the high road and assume you really didn't understand what i meant, so let me explain it one more time. Flicking with a tooth brush would give you less control on the white spots on the cake, and you might end up with a cake of an uneven and not-so-elegant looking finish. I'm not sure if this is English enough for you, but I do know I'm at least not an asshole. Bless you.
This is lovely! Airbrush is my favourite tool to decorate with. Blue is the absolute worst - stains the hands like no other!
I support u
mean 2 way I agree

+Rosie's Dessert Spot is there any other way to create the galaxy effect on a cake without using an airbrush
+iqyxox Put white paint on a toothbrush and flick it with your finger
+Keyser Soze I think +iqyxox meant the the blue, purple and black paints, and not just the stars.

Thanks that's really helpful, wondering if I can do this on a butter cream cake?
Hi +Jennifer Lowe, fondant absorbs the colour much better than buttercream would, although the buttercream recipe I use is a crusting recipe so it should still take the airbrushing. You might find if you apply too heavily too quickly that small micro droplets start to form. I would add the colour on gradually if using a buttercream cake :)

You use iwata airbrush, but what is it you put in it to make the color? Edible paint?
One more question, will luster dust mixed with the coloring clog the airbrush nozzle?? Have you ever tried it?
