How to make an Outline in Inkscape

In just a few simple steps you can make an outline in Inkscape. Once you have your basic outline there are a few different things you can do with it depending on what you're wanting to make or how you're wanting to use the outline. In any case, making an outline in Inkscape is super easy.

I'm just starting to learn Inkscape and your videos have helped me. I'm wondering why on this video when you select the word, the letters are all individual and you must select union to make them one word. On my Windows Inkscape, the word is already a union.

There has been an update to Inkscape since this video was made. There are a few kinks and a few new features. I need to play around with it some and then I'll be making an update video with all the new things. :)

Why can't I get each letter to make a path? I have selected Objets to Path.. but nothing is happening. Can you help?

Hm so in conclusion that is NOT an outline per definition. I need an outline/contur line eg 2mm outside from my object. or 2mm inwards with 2px width. I can´t find a button where I can say: outline/conturline in or out or middle.
