+Jinxtah Oh I'm sure I will. Thrift finds are often less during the fall and winter, which is why I took a break during this time last season. Springtime is when it picks back up :)
+Lazy Game Reviews I'll just have to steel myself with some patience! Ugh. I wish we had these stores in my country. "LGR Rules!" That was freaking cool; maybe an employee knows that you shop there? Just goes to show that you never know what you'll find when on a thrifting adventure! Happy holidays to you and your loved ones, and sincere thanks for all of the content you've put together this year.
When I first clicked on this video I had no idea why anyone would want to watch someone go shopping in a thrift store. Soon as I saw Myst 3: Exile, I realized why someone would want to watch someone go shopping in a thrift store.
Pluto28 I'm watching more right now. It's strangely addictive. It's just a good coincidence because I'm a nerd so I'm a big Myst fan. I'm kind of new to this channel, it showed up in my RUclips suggestions.
When I was a teen, Goodwill was the place to get old game systems like Ataris, Commodores, Intellivisions, etc. From what I hear, they only auction them now though. Back then, you could the system for like 10 bucks and games for .50 cents or so. I really miss pawn shops and thrift stores, now that I'm living in Germany.
bean420man I used to volunteer at a thrift shop, so I know about them. I just didn't get the appeal of watching a video of someone going thrift shopping, until I saw this series.
+TOMYSSHADOW Plays Games Understandable for the initial impressions, though remember that this is LGR we are talking, he can talk about anything and it will be amusing. :P
Clint, being somewhat older than you I can tell you that the projector you found is a slide roll projector, most likely from the 80's. They used them, as far as I know, mainly in schools to show educational presentations. I have fond memories of my teachers clicking through tons of slide rolls back in the 80's using ones that looked just like that.
7:51 "Where every great aunt's of Christmas crap came to die." After all these years of loving LGR I'm convinced that this subtle dark humor has to be intentional.
So, I am new to your channel and I just binged watched all 22 of the Thrift series. I really enjoyed this. I love going thrifting. Looking forward to watching more of your stuff.
+Scrustle Look on the bright side. There is always, ALWAYS a bucket full of golf balls in them! And strangely enough a copy of 'The Moon's a Balloon', by David Niven. Why is that!!
That projector at the start was for showing "film strips." I remember them back in my earliest days of schooling in the 70s. When the accompanying audio cassette beeped, you advanced to the next frame. Yes, they were built like tanks to stand-up to school use.
I now work in a Goodwill, so I'm always cruising for thrift opportunities myself, especially of the PC variety to send you. (I plan to do that in January when I get a bit of time and recover from Christmas spending.)
It's legal on the grounds that all donated item becomes goodwill property. I think its pretty awful that you cant really find video games anymore in store. Yet you have to remember that Retro Gaming is on the rise. So when any media and books comes into the store. Its gets take to the Media Producer to scan the item into the computer that get cross referenced to look up its Amazon price. If the item comes up purple its goes into the store. If its comes up green it goes online. Where people will then bid on the item. So good things can get passed the scanner though mostly big box pc games and other computer software.
Super late to these episodes, but I just wanted to add something: that Bosch radio is actually a construction site radio (Baustellenradio in German). They can be powered by the 10.8V to 18V power tool batteries and thus be easily portable and rugged enough to survive in that environment. They are available by other manufacturers as well (Makita, DeWalt...) and come in different sizes and require different sized batteries. The one you have there is the high end model (not sure which year though) and probably requires the 18V battery pack. It costs about 150 to 200€ new. Neat things these.
Hoyle Card Games is a great game. If you ever find it, the version from 2005 in the blue box is the best version with incredibly underrated music. Apparently the guy who composed the music to Halo 4 made the music for the Hoyle Games in 2005. Puzzle & Board Games is also a great game. Just letting you know.
Holy shit, that Bosch radio brings back memories. One of my best friends had one, which we used when we were building/destroying random stuff outside. That battery lasted forever!
So weird to see charity shops open this late. America has so many volunteers on night shifts it seems. Also, the 2nd-hand gods look down on you continually coincidentally Clint; it's so crazy cool!
We used that same kind of projector at 0:51 when I was in elementary school. I think it only played still images and you had to use a tape recorder with it for the audio and the teacher would have to hit a button on the remote attached to the projector with a long cord to advance to the next image when there was a beep on the tape recording. Sometimes she would choose a student to be the "projectionist" and they got to hold the remote. Oh I feel old as dirt. (born in 1982). We also had the privilege of watching reel to reel video once in a while. It was mostly episodes of the show "Reading Rainbow" I loved those days when you came to class and the projector cart was in the classroom!
This sounds like an expansion pack. LGR, are you taking a page from the Sims and introducing expansion packs to your content? Because I'd throw hella money at that.
This is the video where he talks about Japanese style big buttons! I remembered that information and years later bought that exact Sony cassette deck specifically for the buttons, and now I know where I first heard about it, thanks LGR!
That projector at the beginning, we used those all the time in elementary school. It was just a simple picture projector and my teachers would just use it to show pictures while they talked. The film came in rolls just like 35mm did, the little plastic piece at the bottom allowed it to curl back up when it was done. So many memories.
Holy crap, you really did hit jackpot with old radios this time! Lately I've become rather vulnerable to Sudden Radio Acquisition Syndrome, and I definitely would have fallen for that solid state GE radio.
Man LGR I had the worst day. I spent 500 getting an emergency repair on my car and had to take a loan. This made me feel so much better. Thanks so much.
DUDE @Lazy Game Reviews THAT LP AT AROUND THE 4'10'' MARK!!! That's "Ciao mare" by the Casadei Orchestra, folk music old people dance to over here, in northern Italy. Why in the world is there a copy of it in the US? Pretty weird!
I worked at construction, masonery, bricklayer, etc. We used to go trough a lot of cheap boomboxes, like maybe one each 2 weeks. Those Bosh boomboxes can and will survive the Apocalypse and beyond
dude man, the pine cones totally worked for me... love this channel!! btw- you totally got me stopping at the sal army and thrifty shopper to browse their old electronics, lol
+Mephikal If you don't already have a decent record player, just know that those portable units are, by and large, crappy sounding. That being said, they are incredibly weird/cool, in my opinion, sooo...
Seeing that Mavica brings back so many memories. The FD-73 was my very first digital camera. Then I got the FD-92. I still have the disks of pictures I took with them (backed up/archived to my PC, of course!)
Glad to see you found a complete Sony Mavica. My schools had a bunch of those in the late 90's to mid 2000's. I remember using them for AV club in middle school. Also cool to see a box of Combat Flight Simulator WWII, that was one of the first games we got after getting a Windows 98 PC in 99. Had so much fun playing that game with a MS Sidewinder joystick.
I have that BOSCH stereo thing. It's actually a kind of generator, too; you can charge it up, carry it around at a construction site, and you'll be able to have power for your coffee machine and other things.
Under the Roland CS-10 was one of those Durabrand DVD players that are known to catch on fire, so Wal-Mart has a lifetime safety recall on them... if you ever see one for cheap or free, grab it, because you can return it to any Wal-Mart store and they'll give you $29 for it -- no questions asked, no receipt required, no expiration date! (And so much for those signs at Goodwill saying "We take recalled items seriously and don't offer them for sale"...)
0:50 Holy shit, they used these projectors when I was in grade school! They had these weird slideshow/audio book things, usually old ass nature documentaries or 60's live action Disney films. 3:00 I also had this board game as a kid, it had these different puzzles printed on cards you would slide into the board and these plasticized cardboard things you wrote your answer on in crayon.
So was my sis. Seems the ladies at the yard sale didn't know what they were pricing. Either didn't know it was in the bag or assumed that it didn't work. Best score ever for me.
I'm jealous of your thrift stores. All of the media sections are lined up with the spines facing out. My thrift stores and pawn shops line everything deep, like the cover is facing out and things are stacked behind it.
I've just been binging this series during our second Covid-19 lockdown here in New Zealand. I literally was on Episode 1 like two days ago and now I'm on this episode lmao
I KNEW IT!!! Someone has been seeding your Goodwills! Thought it was strange how much awesome stuff you find when ever Goodwill I go to just has clothes and broken junk.
Re: Wheel Of Fortune board game. I remember playing this one with my mother. It really doesn't play much different from any home computer or gaming console version. But it really kills it for me when you open up the box and the solutions of every puzzle are in full view before you even start playing. Re: Band Aid. This was "Live Aid", a multi-artist fund-raising campaign in the 1980s. The group's name was changed after they were sued by "Ouch! Bandaids" corporation. I'm not kidding. :-)
+Lazy Game Reviews interesting. never knew there was a diskette variant. I had one of the successors. it used mini cdrws instead; it had the tendency to muck up the data if you move around too much while its writing data. it took ages to write it too.
Wow, I had one of those cameras in my possession until just a few months ago, but ended up bringing it to Salvation Army when I moved. I looked back in the rear-view mirror as I drove away, the employee sorting through the boxes took it out, looked at it, then shrugged and threw it in a dumpster.
I think that projector at the beginning is a film strip projector. I remember my teacher using those in elementary school to teach lessons. There would usually be an audio cassette that accompany that, and you actually have to manually advance each frame when the cassette beeped.
A few years ago, my friend bought an ink cartridge from OfficeMax. She asked me how to open it... the cashier didn't remove it from the protective case! So it makes sense that a plastic case could leave a store and end up at Goodwill.
Your thrifting videos always make me jealous because you have so many you can go to, here in my little town I've only got two, and they're way way smaller.
Oh man. Seeing that ps1 in that container takes me back CDs used to put in those in stores like Kmart and zellers (two chains that no longer exist in Canada)
Coincidentally I bought one of those Wheel of Fortune board games in a thrift store about 20 years ago. My brother and I played with it a lot at the time, so I can't complain.
Heh, AV equipment. A local thrift/junk store recently opened a new location (well, more an extension of an existing location), and they had a whole bunch of oldschool analogue AV production equipment, including a mixing board (no cables) the size and weight of a coffee table.
That Goodwill had The Beast by R.L. Stine?! That's a book I've been trying to track down for ages! It was inspired by The Beast roller coaster at Kings Island (my local amusement park here in Cincinnati). Hopefully I can find a copy one day at my local Goodwill, though naturally, with that ride being somewhat of a local icon, that book is treated as something of a collectible in this region, and copies disappear quickly.
Oh man, a slide film strip projector. We used to use those when I was in grade school, when VCR+TV carts weren't cost effective yet. Some poor schmo had to sit there and turn the frame manually when the paired audio cassette made a 'boop'. Some of us liked doing that for some reason. Also good passing on that oscilloscope--it doesn't look like the probes are there with it, so it's kinda worthless. Definitely not worth $50. Funny thing--"Do They Know It's Christmas?" turned 31 about a week ago. You almost got the timing perfect!
Bic Venturi speakers are often regarded as old-school hi-fi products. I would buy those if I were you. A friend of mine had a pair that had their own individual equalizer controls. That brand is rare, in 70's forms.
The last time I hit up Goodwill there was a guy urinating in the entryway and this was in a pretty upscale part of town. Needless to say I haven't been to the thrift store since. That and it only ever seems to have common 2600 games, but mostly because of the former.
Damn. New to the channel; heard about you off Jive Turkey's channel. It looks like someone walked into my man-cave and walked off with half of my games. My daughter just shakes her head at me when i reminisce about this stuff. It is a past-era.
This series is one of the most comfy series ever.

Fucking hell the goodwill and thrift stores where I live sucks. Like not even for finding decent clothes too.
As a former Goodwill employee. All the games worth any value gets sold online. It was quite sad having to do it do xc.
LegendsP
Is that even legal? I mean that defeats the purpose of Goodwill.
@@agentapathy had the same minidisc one, still have it and the box manuals and everything, shot with it from like 04 to 09
The elevated threat of getting jumped atnight whilst bringing one´s haul to the car makes this interesting. Do more.
Good find with that old Sony camera. We had to use those for a particular module on an IT course that I took. Years ago.
The office and LGR two things I can't live without
Wow, I had one of those cameras in my possession until just a few months ago, but ended up bringing it to Salvation Army when I moved.
LGR Rules! :)
The Bosch is a job site radio. It can charge Bosch tool battery's. Thanks for your time and effort. Enjoyed as always!
this is one of the best series and the funnest too!
enjoy your thrift vids, typically quite informative and fun to watch!
Oh man. Seeing that ps1 in that container takes me back CDs used to put in those in stores like Kmart and zellers (two chains that no longer exist in Canada)
Man we are REALLY enjoying these vids!
I had that wooden disk case in the 80's. It was awesome. Still will be if I can find it in the garage archive.
ERMAGERD GERSBERMPS!!1
LGR this is my favorite series! please keep doing them!!!
Ya know your pretty fortunate to find the stuff ya find, the goodwills I'm around usually never have stuff like what you find. Good thrifting man!
That Silent Service II box! The feels. It was one of the first PC games I ever played on my 386. Phew.
Haha, that Roland speaker thingie. You bought one there, that's why they brought back the speaker thingie to that Goodwill again.
Love how we got the after dark day night cycle for LGR- Thrifts without paying RUclips. Love getting them good deals!
I prefer making LGR DLC free! :P
That's a good thing! Although.... Premium LGR... hmm thrift packs
I have that exact GE Alarm clock with the moving dials on my night table! I still use it to this day.
I fucking love your Thrifiting videos.
You should seriously do mor eof these!
I have that exact Mavica camera, so weird, so fun to use. Those ultra low resolution pictures unintentionally create some great images.
That Bosch radio, you get one thats half the size too, 4 or 5 inches in size. Saw it a while ago at some hardware store.
i love this i just watched all 22 ep back to back to back its now 7:18am dam i have to be at work for 9 :P
LGR Rules, that made my day. Awesome episode for sure!
Nothing better than eating lunch while watching a new episode of LGR thrift!
good god! that LGR rules price tag thing is crazy! LGR does of course rule though!
