    I know this video was 8 years ago, but this video help me a lot, I have been racking my brain and searching for 3 days now for exactly what you did here, a swing away type of security window bars that mount on the inside with not a lot of work, this is very doable compared to the one I was going to use,, which reqiured mounting on the outside and massive drilling through the house for a foot pedal type of release on the inside, with cables and pedals and all kind of nonsense involved, and I did not want to drill through my vinyl siding and make that into a mess, yes these are a little more money not much more, but the install process is way easier . I actually have already a Mr. Goodbar door grill on my back door, and it fit great!!!

    Great Video. My bars should be here today. My window is similar to yours. It is 70 tall x 45 wide. So the bars I ended up getting can fit horizontal or vertical. To find the right fit, I got the one, and the hinge will be at the top and lock at the bottom. My window is about the same height off the floor as yours.I appreciate the instruction - that will help a lot.

    This is a useful instruction video, better than the one the company itself produces. Also, the printed instructions that come with the product are not clear. They make reference to parts like "left guide rail," and "grille," and "lock end bracket" without a diagram that shows what parts these terms refer to. Also, no Robertson drill bit came with the set I bought, so make sure you have one on hand before you start.

    I decided to put in the exterior rolling shutters on my windows, makes the room dark if you need it, protects the glass, makes it near impossible to enter without cutting tools. The shutters can be operated even without power because I chose the manual crank. Even if someone managed to get in the house I can place all the shutter crank handles in the safe making it impossible to open the shutters.

    I would rather install bars between blinds and window. I don't want bars on the inside like this one. My reason is I want crooks to see the bars before they attempt to break window.

    • @GoingGoneGalt
      @GoingGoneGalt  4 года назад +6

      Everything is a matter of personal preference, of course. You could put these outsude of the blinds i think, depending on the configuration of your windows. My logic with keeping them hidden was to not make the house look extra secure, thus not telegraphing that there might be much inside worth burglarizing it for. Glass is cheap, though a hassle to replace. Best of luck in your research & decision!

    • @AndrewLeeW1

      That would also work backwards, itd tell crooks you have valuables and they need something a bit more heavy to get in.

    why u left a big opening at the top? isn't u installed the bar to protect the outside intruders?

    • @GoingGoneGalt
      @GoingGoneGalt  9 лет назад +2

      Xiao Zhang I would have had to install two sets of bars in each window to avoid that gap. I didn't think it was necessary to do. An intruder would have to smash the entire window, and then climb a ladder to get in over those. Then they would set off the alarm, while meeting the dogs, and if they were unlucky enough to have me home at the time, they would also meet Mr. Smith & Mr. Wesson & their six hollow pointed cousins. The bars are only one layer of security... many are needed for a complete defense. I have others that I do not show here.

    • @Valleybeautiful
      @Valleybeautiful 9 лет назад +1

      +GoingGoingGalt: Smart man! LOL.....we've been working on our layering as well!! Here's another layer for you to consider for your windows. It is on the pricey side, but there is the option I believe to save a lot of money with self install. That's the 3M window security film. It's still possible to break your windows but it takes a lot more time and effort & a thief would need to have a decent cutting tool with them. It's all about slowing them down and discouraging them & giving you time to react.

    • @GoingGoneGalt
      @GoingGoneGalt  2 года назад +1

      I have steel security screen doors of expanded metal on both of my entrance doors. That was the first security upgrade that I made to the house. Mine cost me about $200 apiece. The more decorative and appealing, the more they will cost. You can leave your weather tight doors open in beautiful weather, even overnight, and feel secure. You can open the door to strangers (or police) and speak with them and feel secure. I recommend them to everyone.

      MM2 0 "legal" or not, if anything, would be a local or state issue, but I've never heard of them being prohibited anywhere. These indoor systems may be allowable where HOA's prohibit exterior bars. They make a quick release system that should be used in any rooms that could have other exits blocked in case of fire. The best solution are those security windows with a metal mesh inside the window...the ones that are pretty much impervious from breaking in they would need to try and pry the whole window open... expensive but it's a option.

Keeping on the inside is a good option altogether because first, they gotta break the window, then look through the blinds then they have to pretty much somehow get through the security bars which I just don’t think is even possible without power tools and we both know criminals don’t have those hanging around lol. I suggest you use 3 inch 1/2 wood screws it’s overkill but it’s still a very good option.

    • @aa.gg.4609
      @aa.gg.4609 7 лет назад

      Pretty cheaply made? You think a bad guy is going to sit outside your house with a saw making all sorts of nose? Bad guys don't wanna be seen or heard, when he smashes your window hes already going to be in for a shock that there's bars on the other end anyways. (assuming you still conceal with the blinds). You wasted over a grand for a couple metal cylinders in the casings. Waste of money.

    • @GoingGoneGalt
      @GoingGoneGalt  7 лет назад +1

      Well, I'm still waiting for that link to the $100 bars that fit my windows.. I haven't seen it yet. Never underestimate the desperation and perseverance of a tweaker who needs a rock to smoke... they'll do about anything. If these slow him down by a few minutes, it's worth a little more. And I mean a little. You talk about a thousand dollars as if it's a huge amount of money... it isn't. I've got microphones and guns that are each worth more than that in my house, and a lot more.. so a few more bucks to help protect it all, and my family? F'ing pocket change. And when you say "over a grand"... your math sucks. You must be a millennial who was taught common core. And lastly... I really have to know... why in the hell would you care? Are you an heir to the Grisham fortune or something? Good lord, little troll...

    • @aa.gg.4609
      @aa.gg.4609 7 лет назад

      $100 bars? No, not $100 bars, even less. You can get Grisham interior window depending on what size you want/ need for under $40 bucks for the biggest size ! When i said "a thousand dollars" i underestimated, you actually wasted even more. On your video you go on to say i believe you bought seven of those bars and then you go on to say your total was "around $1600 dollars". Gee, golly, let's do some math $40 x 7 = $280 for Grishams tallest and widest interior bars. The materials are exactly the same, except for some flimsy metal rod you claim is between the metal casings. I dunno who you are or why you insist on blowing money but that would have been $1,320 you could have invested and bought a brokered CD at TD Ameritrade or Fidelity and made over 3.5% interest. Instead of getting duped by some Canadian company that just made a killing off of you. Good day.

    • @GoingGoneGalt

      Okay, Mr. Wonka. And to paraphrase another classic film; I will now speak slowly and use small words so you will be sure to understand. Post. Your. Links. Show me these magical security bars that are a mere $40 (and yes, the total included shipping) that will cover a 58"x 45" window opening. And now, since you've made another absurd claim, you can also post the link to where one might get a 3.5% CD these days. Most are under 1%, with a select few nearing 2%, and that's usually only if you are going to plop in over $25K committed to 60 months. I think your financial memories are stuck sometime in the mid 90's. Best of luck.
