  • 4 Various Levels of Security for Anti-Intrusion
    Many videos out there demonstrate security film with optimum circumstances (Thick commercial glass, blunt instruments for breaking like a baseball bat, etc..) We wanted to make a realistic video with a sharp rock being thrown at 100% and a crow bar which will rip the film faster than a bat, and thin glass on weak frames commonly found inside a home. All films are 7 mil safety film / security film.
    Please note:
    Yes, the tall guy swung the crowbar like he was auditioning for Gilmore Girls. But he actually wasn't holding his punches for a dramatic effect. Glass was flying back at him intensely when he hit the door and he actually got pretty cut up by the end of the day; next time we will wear more protective clothing and give it more.
    Yes, there are thicker films. These can distort or haze the glass which isn't ideal for residential customers.
    Yes, the perpetrator could just bust a hole large enough to unlock the door. But most people have a wooden stick at the bottom of their slider because slider locks are ineffective, so unlocking the door is useless.
    Yes, it would have been faster to just lift the door out of place. Of our dozens of customers who have been broken into, this has not happened, not once. We aren't keeping out secret agents here. We mitigating the random act of petty burglary by deterring the individual.
    Yes, they can still get in. However, we have not had one customer in the last 10 years call to say their house has been broken into AFTER the film has been applied. Quite the contrary, we have had a number of thank you notes from our customers that have stopped attempted break ins after we have applied film for them.
    No, we don't make a dime from posting this video. We aren't trying to sell anything. This is purely educational.
    The security film comes with a lifetime warranty and is invisible on your glass.

    For comparison, laminated glass used in basic hurricane impact windows uses, as a minimum, a 90 mil (.090") layer of a tear resistant vinyl sheet bonded by heat and pressure between two layers of glass. Impact glass is designed to stop a 9# 2x4 hitting the glass at 50 feet per second.

  • @TheWtfnonamez
    @TheWtfnonamez 4 года назад +24

    I found this very useful because it made me appreciate the legitimate protection I am going to get if I am on the other side of the glass. If someone throws something hard at my head ... its probably going to punch through and hit me in the head ... but if someone is trying to physically get in ... a few layers of plastic film can buy you time to get into position ... and fight back.
    and before anyone says it ...... yeah if they are using a gun ... I get it lol

    Looks like the first hole on all these demo's give hand access to the security bar inside the bottom of the door and the inside door handle. The intruder would not need to break all that glass to get in. Still the film causes a delay, which is also a deterrent.

    1. What does "attachement" menas?
    2. Could you get te same protection if the glass is not tempered?

    • @unherdac
      @unherdac 3 года назад +19

      Attachment means that you're using a caulk type silicone sealant to run a bead around the edges of the film to "attach" the film to the frame of the window or door. This will bolster it's strength considerably.
      I like to use the following in my security film installations: www.amazon.com/dp/B000KZYJ8E/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_fabc_J0A32GAD5JABJ5PA3E8P?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1

    • @unherdac
      @unherdac 3 года назад +8

      By the way, there are technically 2 types of glass used in homes: annealed and tempered. Tempered glass breaks in millions of pieces and requires "attachment" in regards to security films. Annealed glass is the glass the breaks into giant, dangerous shards. You can get away with NOT using an "attachment" on annealed glass but I use it anyway - I like over-engineering. Lol.
      Fyi, places that tempered glass is used in a residence is around any doorway and around any tub/shower in the bathroom.

    Excellent video - better than people who just take crowbar/hammer and just halfheartedly hit the glass - at least you guys really put some muscle into the hits. Though realistically all the person needs to do is make hole big enough to reach in and open the door. And that was probably more likely to be around the 15-20 seconds time. I have been considering security film but at the points where they would enter, I doubt anyone would hear that glass breaking. At most this would just slow them down for about 30 seconds. I think I will have to consider an alarmed system.

      He yes this is very thin old tempered glass in this video. The thicker the glass the stronger it will be.
      If the application lends to it, I like to recommend an attachment. However, it is a thick bead of caulk that only comes in black and white. Will it match. Regarding opening problems, the caulking does not go beyond the actual window frame. This is often very thin on residential windows which would therefore make the attachment pointless.

      @Rnv Z
      - No, you don't have to install the film on both sides. However, you'll have about 30 seconds from the first hit of the glass until they're inside your home or business. With both sides covered you might have 60 seconds 'till they're in your home.
      The film needs to cover at least one window fully or whoever is breaking your window will only need to hit the glass two to three times and they'll be inside. The film holds the broken glass together when hit. If one area has no film, that area will fall away and the film and broken glass can be pushed out of the way very quickly.
      If you need 157cm of coverage, buy at least 157cm of coverage.

      We feel a reply to this is necessary due to its inaccuracy. The VAST MAJORITY of sliding glass doors BY FAR, even the expensive ones, are tempered glass and will all fall like a mic drop with one rock. (Very few come with laminated glass unless specifically ordered by your builder or door installer.) Our customers face this unfortunate reality regularly. One recent example is the horrific entrance into the Nashville school. A rock will drop glass the same as a bullet when it's tempered, which sliding glass doors are by code unless they are ordered as laminate, which is much more expensive. ruclips.net/user/shortsdXrnXSaxyqY

      @@enhancedglasswindowfilm7536 I live in a winter state and our French doors and sliders are all laminated and dual pane usually because of cold weather I’m guessing? unless your buying your stuff cheapest possible.. so yeah maybe where you are but not here. Hammers bounce off the glass for the first couple swings then it’s sweatin time to keep hitting.

      It's not designed for stopping someone who'll spend 30 seconds making all that noise before going in. If you have neighbors who hate you, or are deaf, or are miles away, this obviously isn't the solution.

    And if the first whole on my sliding door is from a rock, the second hole will be from the inside out, from a shotgun

      Hi Mark. I'm confident we have never sold film to you because we do not offer DIY products. We only offer our products with professional installation from our company. White dirty water would be an application error.

    Not a good video.
    So the security film, especially on both sides, deadens the noise of the breaking glass.
    Bad demonstration...the weakness of the security film is around the window edges (frame) which you can push in once the window is cracked.
    He is repeatedly striking the center of the window. All you need to do is push in one edge of the film to get inside, you don't need to remove the whole
    window to gain entry.
    The only way to really make security film somewhat effective is to remove the glass from the frame, install the film, and re-install the glass into the frame so that
    the frame sandwiches the film and glass, providing adding strength. If you install the film only on the visible part of the glass (and not the glass inside the frame),
    then all along the edge of the frame is the weak area - crack the glass and push it in around the edge of the frame.
