  • Happy 4th of July Cubs fans! The Cubs dropped another painful game to the Phillies yesterday, 5-3 in front of a packed house at Wrigley Field. It was Shota Imanaga against Zack Wheeler and it did not disappoint. The pair combined for 15 strikeouts as their stuff was on full display.
    Offensively for the Cubs, Pete Crow-Armstrong delivered two RBI doubles and tallied his 16th steal of the season (without being caught). Cody Bellinger and Michael Busch both also poured in multi-hit games, but is Bellinger's bat heating up too late to matter?
    At this point, any hot streak from any player is just boosting their trade value as the Cubs look toward selling at the July 30th trade deadline.

    Jameson Taillon (4-4, 3.03 ERA) vs Christopher Sanchez (6-3, 2.41 ERA)

    PCA was caught stealing twice last season, so no record forthcoming for him😢. Loving what I'm seeing from him this last month. He's hitting his groove.

    PCA had a strong game, that was good to see. I don’t like the approach of a lot of hitters in this lineup. Morel seems to be more like Happ and Suzuki this season. It’s not working for him. Different personalities need different approaches. Not every player will be a high OBP type player and not every pitcher needs a sweeper pitch. If the Cubs want those type of players, then only draft those type of players they need to stop trying to turn players in what they’re not, that’s just my opinion.

    Professional job by you, Ant. PCA had a solid game, but he needs to make that play in the eighth if he’s an elite defender. This team has no margin for error. Amaya is abysmal.

    Thanks Ant for another great video! However, I will not waste my time watching the Cubs anymore. This has been beyond a disappointment for us fans. I am always excited when spring training begins despite no big moves last offseason. This wasn’t what I thought they would be and they are worst than I could’ve ever imagined. There is a huge disconnect with this team, and it can’t be fixed at this point. Jed and Carter are to blame and they both need to go. Ricketts should convince Kim Ng to come to Chicago.

    There's nothing wrong with the manager, we forgot to bring the team with him. If we would have brought the team with him we'd be in first place right now. Keep Crow Armstrong and Bush the rest of the guys can go.

  • @robertfox798
    @robertfox798 23 дня назад

    I disagree - you will have an additional year of development to Busch, PCA and Morel. That can only be a positive. although I would prefer to have someone else to play the hot corner. I also don't like to clog up the DH with one player, so I am not really sure what to do with him. Love him has a person, just not sure where he fits.

    I’m convinced that Suzuki is still being hampered by his oblique injury. They need to shut him down until after the All Star break, unless he’s on the trading block. But, what’s the point of showcasing a player when he’s working through an injury.
    How often has a team fired a President and General Manager during a season? Jed Hoyer has one full season left on his contract (2025), if the organization knows they have no plans to extend him, then it’s time to cut the cord and have a front office rebuild now!
    My concern is that if Jed Hoyer sees the writing on the wall, he may trade guys away just out of spite. I hope that’s not the case, but, letting him go now, avoids any chance of that happening.
    I gave Jed Hoyer the same patience that I gave Theo. I’ve been impressed at what Jed and Carter have done with the farm system, but, I can’t say the same for the major league team. And, if they subject the fans to another rebuild, they have a lot of explaining to do. They need to be held accountable for the holes that still exist on this team.
    Tom Ricketts has never balked on spending. He allowed Theo/Jed to spend over the tax threshold in 2017, 2018 and 2019 with nothing to show for it. So, I don’t blame him for wanting Jed to prove that he can build a winner under the tax threshold. If Tampa can build consistent winners on their limited budget, the Cubs should be able to do the same with the bigger budget they get to work with every year. And, he’s also gone on record saying that if the team has a legitimate chance to win, he’d be willing to go over the tax threshold.
    The Cubs knew, at the end of last year, that Yan Gomes was at a point in his career where he wouldn’t be able be the every day catcher. Jed and Carter had ample time to find a full time catcher during the offseason and just didn’t. If the idea was to win this year, it’s best to have an established catcher to work with a pitching staff. This glaring mistake is coming back to bite them hard. And now, every team in baseball knows that the Cubs need a full-time catcher and will be asking for a ton of talent in return.
    I still like Craig Counsell. I just hope that they can build a team around him that has the ability to manufacture runs, like he had in Milwaukee. There are, at least, two hitters currently on the Cubs roster who don’t seem to “get it” and they need to get moved and be replaced with guys who are able to have professional at bats.

  • @user-wm5wi8fg9s

    Trading Bellinger makes sense. Get something back for him before he leaves and you get nothing back.
    If Happ or Suzuki are willing to waive there no trade clause and you can find someone make a deal there also.
    Hendricks and Smyly will save you almost $30 million off the books next season.

    Before considering trading Nico, I would try to get rid of Swanson, no matter what, trading him and eating some of his salary however necessary, and play Nico at SS. Nico runs well, steals bases and still has a little bit of fire. His hitting is ok, and I think any trade for him will haunt us in the future. I don’t think as the same with Swanson. Dansby is hurting the team in lots of ways, he doesn’t run as Nico, is not showing any power, his defense isn’t extraordinaire; Nico can do whatever he does at SS. If PCA is the best of what we have at the minors then, what can we expect from the rest? Let them play and see if they are as good as advertised. And finally, any rebuilt will have to be done without Hoyer and Hawkins. If Ricketts keeps them there, then he is not serious about winning.

    • @knleonhart
      @knleonhart Месяц назад

      Not saying they can.. but if they can get rid of Dansby, might as well sign Tim Anderson for nothing and see if the change of scenery does something.

    • @jarrodwilson3864
      @jarrodwilson3864 Месяц назад +1

      I agree with trading Swanson, he hasn't lived up to his contract. I disagree with signing anderson. Bring up a minor leaguer to fill the spot at 2nd. Triantos or shaw. Can trade happ and bring up Cassie.

    • @knleonhart
      @knleonhart Месяц назад

      @@jarrodwilson3864 I would rather have Shaw and Triantos up too. But for the league minimum, might as well try him at AAA to see how it goes. The AAA team doesn’t exactly have a lot of infield depth, and moving infielders straight from AA to the majors doesn’t help with that issue

    • @Mayznor86
      @Mayznor86 Месяц назад

      Nico has played far below his ability this year just like Swanson. But if comparing value, Swanson was miles ahead of EVERYONE defensively. More power. We knew he'd hit slumps but power and average would balance them out. There's no way Hoyer made wrong decision vs Bogoarts or Correa.
      To the Hoyer haters, would you rather have a 10yr contract on Correa/Bog rn?

    • @jarrodwilson3864
      @jarrodwilson3864 Месяц назад

      @@Mayznor86 would rather not have that swanson contract. Swanson is not playing like a gold glove player that he was when he came to Chicago. So his contract for 7 years is too long and not worth the cost of his contract.

  • @hayfielddraw4364
    @hayfielddraw4364 Месяц назад

    I just don't get on board with the baseball logic of trade away Bellinger. You're going to get rid of your best player, to clear salary, and then hope you can replace him with someone better and cheaper who will also be capable of elevating all of the bad players you kept? Makes no sense. Trade away Happ, and put Tauchman in his place. Give away any reliever that anyone would be willing to take. Demote Morel and PCA and put Bote and Wisdom in their place or call up some prospects. In the fall, fire off all of the player development staff that keeps these guys stagnant, and all of the trainers who need to answer for all of the injuries.
