Nice! I raised a feral pigeon from a nestling and thought maybe I could let him lose and never see him again, but he ALWAYS came home. Not that I was complaining, I was hoping he'd stick around, he was part of the family. I could always depend on him to come home, rain, sleet, or snow..though I THINK he wanted to be a house bird. xD Racing pigeons seems like something I'd love to be able to do someday, I sure look forward to it.
Nowadays race organizers will put secret numbers or coded band on your bird entry and once it fly back to you ....you will just send the number or code and TIME via cellphone to the race organizer , so capturing the bird as fast as you could is important.
Don't be ridiculous. They're let out for two hours a day to fly and they race very long distances. Opportunities for escape are abundant. If you whistle for your pigeons and some of them haven't come back there's really nothing you can do. As for the way they're taken care of, they live in conditions similar to those of wild pigeons. Wild pigeons huddle together in whatever sheltered space they can find and they stay close for warmth. The difference with a racing pigeon loft are the fact that it's a regulated environment built to benefit the health of the pigeons and the bird shit is regularly cleaned. Also there's the fairly major benefit of having food brought to them regularly, something wild pigeons do not get. An that is what makes them return home at the end of a flight. so racing pigeons are by far the most free of all the racing animals. If you want to whine about cruelty look at horse and greyhound racing.
But its ok in the rodeo to put a rope around a bulls nuts so a bull rider can win money . Fuck off about racing pigeons they are treated better then most children
Great video. Thx for sharing. I just came across an up & coming musician similar to this that's worth checking out... Mikey Wax... RUclips his song "You Lift Me Up". Really good stuff.

I feel sorry for the pigeons. They deserve to be let go instead of remaining in a cramped box and forcing them to race and come home.

some cultures eat pigeons
Pigeon racing is so abusive and cruel
What makes you think that?
