Zimbabwean citizens only don't have confidence with the leadership that has introduced the currency not particularly with the currency itself, I think the currency has no problem but the leadership.

The currency IS NOT gold backed. This young man has no idea what he's talking about! This currency is NOT redeemable in gold. If he thinks a puny two tonnes of gold can back the currency of a medium sized country like Zimbabwe he's dreaming.

@@jimmycricket5366 what I understand here is that they introduced this current to be compared with the value of gold yes and other resources available in the country, but my question now is, does the country have enough minerals to compare it with them such as gold especially when most of that little gold is being leaked out of the country by the once reported gold mafias, which makes me believe that individuals in Zimbabwe own that gold not the state remember the central bank was reported to be having only 1 tonne of gold in its reserves local and about 1.5 tonne off shore is that gold enough to support the currency of the country with a population of about 17000000 as an asset

@@zolanizwangendabamkandla9929 Remember the RBZ had five tonnes of gold in reserve from the 1980's but then after responsible people like Leonard Tsumba, Gono just went and sold all of it. This idea of keeping gold reserves at the central bank is not new at all and most countries do it. They are not telling the truth in that the ordinary person will not be able to redeem the zig for gold. A truly gold backed currency is redeemable in gold, even if a minimum level is set. That obviously can't be done with only two tonnes of gold. It's just cheap talk all over again.

Zimbabwean government officials must stop blaming the sanctions, they are not first and the only country to be economically sanctioned. They must try better strategies, hold each other accountable, and give hope to the citizens of Zimbabwe. Zimbabwe stands a chance of being economically and interdepandently powerful country in Africa as whole. That fast growth rate he is talking about without proper governance will benefit more than half of the population in the next 500 years, if lucky.
