You and Josh approach everything with such a sense of joy and gratitude. You are understandably overwhelmed by all you have to catch up on in your garden, but still in wonder over what it provides. And hearing Josh whistle as he works to turn your new house into the home of your dreams.

Like I dunno, as someone with severe depression for years- Just watching a channel like this that's typically peaceful, but also down to earth real sometimes is just nice ♡

This can HELP with Garden Overwhelm (which I think we all can feel!) Laura from Garden Answer divides her garden into sections and then focuses on just one section at a time (weeding, pruning, fertilizing, inspecting for insects). She does one section each weekday, but you can make your own schedule. It definitely helps so that when you have 15 minutes, you know where to focus your attention, you make progress in that one area and don’t stress about all the other things that need work because you know they’ll get attention soon when it’s their zone.

    • @AB-ol5uz
      @AB-ol5uz 2 года назад +10

yes - she's broken her property down into 5 zones, each weekday is assigned a zone - maintenance in the morning and special projects (if needed) in the afternoon - so that way the weeds, overgrowth of bushes/trees, etc. don't get out of control.

    • @CatherineShoresHMN

My mom suggested this to me when I was overwhelmed about my yard. We bought our house in Aug 2020 & there was an established vegetable garden and SEVERAL flower gardens. It got away from me last year. We were discussing it last winter & she suggested the zone defense. Brilliant!

You are def blessed. We can all only do what we can in life. If your unable to spend more time in the garden it’s OK. You are blessed! I have a Weber grill as well. LOVE IT! You may want to invest in spare ‘flavor bars’ to keep on hand if/when the ones start to deteriorate. We had to replace ours at some point and it took some time before we got it. So I bought a backup just in case. Also with your cardboard, you could use it to start prepping the land for you garden. It works fabulous to set up a grassy or weedy area to prep for a garden. Looks like you had a lovely get together. Good luck with the house projects. Can’t wait to see more. 😁

Love your new home! You probably already know this but the "weeds" you pulled are Dandelions you can eat them.
    Dandelion Greens with Double Garlic
    Save
    Print
    Ingredients
¼ cup extra virgin olive oil
    6 cloves of garlic, sliced
    ¼ teaspoon red pepper flakes
Salt and freshly ground black pepper, to taste
1 pound dandelion greens with stems, washed and roughly chopped
    ½ cup vegetable stock
    1 clove of garlic minced
    Instructions
Heat the olive oil in a large saucepan over medium-high heat. Add the sliced garlic, pepper flakes, and some salt and black pepper and cook for about 1 minute. The garlic should soften and become fragrant.
Add the greens and stock. Cover and cook until the greens have wilted slightly, about 5 minutes.
Remove the lid, but continue to cook and stir until the liquid has all but evaporated, about 5 more minutes. Add the minced garlic and cook for 1 more minute. Adjust seasonings and serve.
Nutrients and Health Benefits of Dandelion Recipes
So, since changing my mindset a bit, I now get giddy when I see the little yellow blossoms pop up all over my yard. Not only are dandelions very edible, but they are also incredibly nutritious.
The nutrients found in dandelions rival any leafy greens, they are full of vitamins and minerals. Dandelions contain vitamins A, C, K, Folate, calcium, and potassium. These vitamins and minerals provide those that use dandelion recipes with many different health benefits.
Dandelions Recipes may be able to help:
    Provide Antioxidants
    Reduce Inflammation
    Managing Blood Pressure
    Controlling Blood Sugar
    Lowering Cholesterol

I think you will grow to love everything about your new grill. The side burner on the grill is nice for frying. Frying in the house just seems to hang in the air, so doing it outside is nice. I love frying up corn tortillas into homemade chips for guacamole 🥑 & salsa, or frying chicken. I like to have a full spare tank, because it never seems to fail, that it runs out in the middle of a big cook for coming lol. Enjoy!

Your new grill is a perfect way for you to practice cooking with propane! I left you some hints and tips on that on the relevant film yesterday. It might be worth saving your cardboard. You can use it to line the bases of your new raised beds when you get them, it stops any weeds growing up into the bed and gradually breaks down just like the woodchips. Please hug those beautiful dogs for me. They were so good not walking through your dirt pike when you were sweeping. Mine would have regarded that as a challenge clearly put there just for them. 🐶

I do my water bath on the side burner as well for the same reason, I don't want to heat up the house.

I caught Charles Dowding and he uses plain cardboard in the garden, tops it with compost and plants. The cardboard keeps out weeds and even helps him establish née planting beds in grassy areas. Just FYI as you work to create your new garden space. Love your new home! Congratulations!

I have never seen anyone else besides my husband sweep in a circle! 😄
    I’m so happy for y’all.
And I laughed when you said you were getting cold. It’s been 100+ since May here in the south. We’re expecting chances of rain every day for the next week and lord we need it! The garden needs it for sure.
I’m the grilled in the family. I use charcoal and wood. Sometimes I wish we had a gas grill when I’m feeling lazy but you can’t beat a good wood/ smoke taste on da meats! I want a half & half one one day! 😁

How exciting this is for you!
I had no idea you had to assemble the grill to that extent?!?👏 I thought it just came assembled 🙄
I guess there's an option to have lowes assemble it for you, at a cost...
Thank you for sharing your feelings about the garden. It will provide for you however much attention or neglect it gets. You are prioritizing your life, and letting go of things you can't control. I say the house is top priority rn. Great job team!

ICYMI: My kitchen aide mixer is just like yours & is 35 years old. I repack gears annually with $8 Kitchen aide grease & youtube video. Works like NEW. I DO use my clear plastic dry ingredient “collar” so I can add without getting clouds of flour & sugar. Don’t get rid of it until you try it.
    Have a BLESSED week!

FYI This is something I share at Farm Share, a CSA program I work with. If you find yourself without a colander and you need to "dry" your greens you can use a pillowcase. I know that this wouldn't have helped Becky in this case but for others. Put your greens in a clean pillowcase and go outside and "spin" your salad. Kids love to do this and it helps to get them to eat greens. PS can be fun for adults, too! I make sure I wash the pillowcase with non fragranced soap and no softner. I simply put it in the dish pan or plugged sink and wash it.and drip dry.

Sweetpea this old lady has had tears in her eyes watching your parents reactions to the work y'all have done. The look on ur precious face when talking about ur garden and the need to do but the pure Blessings from what you are receiving from it. And then ur talking about hosting gatherings, made the tears flow. I am the youngest and only girl of 7. And only 4 of us are still living. We let life come in and build silly walls between us and now we are strangers and it had alot to do with the 3 youngest boys passing. Oh well my mama retired from hosting when I was 12 and she 52 then I took over. Sadly but I only cook homemade for myself these days. But am blessed with a teenager that let's me cook for her on occasion. Thanks for stirring some awesome memories ❤!

Always a way to get it done. Awesome grill. You will have many many hours of making awesome food. The side burner is for putting a pan on it for like liquid stuff.

You ARE Blessed! All I see is bounty and beauty, the garden is bountiful with growth and beautiful to behold and you my dear are absolutely beautiful!!!... Did you remember the Mayo?? Tee Hee🤭🤗
I have a silly question..do you find when you sweep up that you hold your breath or not? I always did and it used to kill my back. Being disabled now is just ridiculous to me as I was an active child/teen. I swam competitively for 15yrs (dad threw us in the pool and said sink or swim...we swam), ran track, threw shot putt & discus, played basketball and softball....WHAT HAPPENED??? I have so many auto-immune diseases, illnesses from both sides of the famil y and 3 that no one ever had...why why why? Thank you for letting me live vicariously through
you guys!!!! You have no idea what it means to watch you both and find myself smiling!
ooh ooh ooh...where did your mom get those black/red large bowls..want them so bad!!
