    Yes,because when your water cooling explodes and leaks all over,you are worried about the LED strips not being damaged.

      ImTotallyTechy Yes but regular LED's would work just fine because the point of oil is that it doesn't conduct electricity.

      Yeah. Uhm the UV light is not rubbish. It makes uv reactive material glow. Any UV light on the market will make your white sploges show up on your keyboard and walls. I am thinking UV lighting is not for you. Stick with RGB.

    Hey Linus I saw this video about a week ago looking for a UV solution for my new case. Like you said, the traditional cathodes just die out or fade out. (mine died after only 3 months!) I bought the 60CM UV strip, Phobya of course, and I am more than pleased. It makes everything in my case look really awesome, and I have some UV reactive SATA cables that work very well too. I stuck it to the top of my case and since it is flexible, was able to run it down the front side of the case as well. Absolutely amazing, definitely recommend and I will definitely buy this brand again again.

    if you check ebay a lot of light strips come waterproof, you can always ghetto mod them and twist the cables onto a spare molex adapter unless you buy ones like these. For pc's if you have a liquid cooling loop you could throw it in the reservoir?

    Had a DFI Lanparty UT board and a couple of UV cold cathodes. In my opinion you can't even notice the board and cables reflecting the light in real life, only when you take a picture or capture it on video it becomes visible. Exactly like IR.

    Would you recommend Cold Cathode tubing? I currently have LED's in my rig, but am looking for something that would give it a better kick. I have a string of LED's that goes around the entire inside of the windowed panel of my case. But they don't seem to do well. Thoughts?

    • @TheFacelessRage
      @TheFacelessRage 10 лет назад

      Linus made a video about this very thing, he recommends LED's over cathodes because they use less power, they don't fail anywhere near as often, they have a uniform brightness whereas cathodes tubes don't usually match, you don't have to hide an ugly transformer block and they're easier to hide. So... LED's all the way!

    • @TheFacelessRage

    LEDs produce a few different frequencies of light, most of which will be in the ultra violet light spectrum. They appear violet because of the lower frequencies on the top end of the visable light spectrum.

    You are correct, but lots of stuff takes the UV and fluoresce it as another color that you can see. Even the LEDs fluoresce it as violet. Most of the Energy comes out an pure UV that you can't see.

    If this does in fact have the abilities of a blacklight (which does emit wavelengths that we can see), then you could coat your cables. However, I can't think of anthing for you to coat them in that isn't liquid. Perhaps you could find some sort of paint.

  • @DjRavix
    @DjRavix 11 лет назад

    I think these are the best LED strips you can currently get for A PC
    And I think that the use of the FAN connectors Is one of the most smartest things about them since with CCFL you usually run into the problem of having to short cables to run to the unit where you can connect those
    With LED you don't need a unit to power them however You need a Molex connector nearby witch in some cases can be a problem if you want your system to look good
    not to forget that the 3pin connector is a lot smaller

    Violet emissions and ultraviolet emissions aren't mutually exclusive. Traditional blacklights also emit plenty of visible light. They typically have filters, but even then, you can clearly see them glowing purple. This LED strip has no filter, so it's much brighter in the visible spectrum.

  • @Falcrist
    @Falcrist 11 лет назад

    These are probably "near UV" (near as in “close to the visible spectrum”) LEDs which peak at 395nm. The visible spectrum starts at 400nm.
    I say peak, because UV lights - like other lights - don't emit one wavelength, but rather a distribution of wavelengths above and below their target wavelength. Traditional UV lamps typically have to be filtered to remove visible light emissions (all the way into orange), though the filters aren't 100%.
    The LEDs aren't filtered, hence you see plenty of purple.

    CCFL UV is more narrow: 365 to 368 nm - LED UV: 385 to 400 nm
    UV: 10 - 400 nm - Purple: 380 - 450 nm
    CFL stays under the Purple range. - LED is within both UV & Purple so you end up with purple glow & less UV reaction.
    LED is also too high in the UV range that it doesn't react well with all UV reactive things.
