    What would get me really excited is if Muzata released a "corner" channel/diffuser that gave the same effect as this channel you used for the neon effect. I have not found ANY corner (V shaped) channels that have enough distance between the channel and diffuser to give a spotless neon look.

      I wish I could like this comment 100 times! I wish they would come out with something like this as well! They easily could! They might need to increase the distance a little from the led strip to the diffuser to create a spotless look but It cant be that hard to make one! They would sell a ton of those!!

      I made a couple of corner lights running pairs of strips with LEDs offset by.one. Zoom meeting.lights behind computer desk as well as nigjtlighting duties. They give me a near spotless.look on all settings. But beware - once.you have the distance it comes with a larger cross section and with the edges at 90deg they get very rigid. If your corners aren't perfect they won't bend to fit. Mine constantly come off the tape and screws would be needed to pull them flat. I will swap them out for a flat channel soon.

However, I would love to see the capability to assign a different color to EVERY LED especially in DIY mode, rather than the current grouping of three LED's (or six in some cases) So far, only the Hex panels offer this but I won't quibble. @@ChrisMaherDIY Hi Chris, thanks for the reply.
      I believe the output of the Govee powersupply is 4 wires but can't quite tell from the unboxing.
      So my question is "to do a permanent install and hide the controller in an accessible location (say in a cabinet where there is access for future replacement) , I would need to cut the Govee output wire, then run my own 4 wires to the strip start point, then resolder the govvee conector to the strip)? Does that soudns like a reasonable thing to do? I mean these power supply / controllers will fail at some point but 4 speaker wires will not. (I am assuming the wires are not twisted internally for shielding purposes)
      I saw the soldering video, it has restored my faith in the possibility of soldering the 4 connectors - in the past I tried many, many times to do that with the 3 - wire RGB and always failed.
      Now I know it's possible so thats excellent ! thank you for that as well !

But these diffuser channels although not waterproof would look perfect for diffusing the light and getting that nice glow but would probably have to mount them underneath an overhang or on the underside of the gutter to help protect from rain! At some point I'm going to start putting these on my house but that's a new level of commitment that I'm not quite ready for lol.

    Great Video. Curious how these would perform outdoors under an eaves or overhang on the house. Thinking this would solve my Christmas lights forever then allow me to use year round! May be an idea for a future video with a 3 month check in to see how they are holding up in the elements if possible.

    • @Zinic_

      Another RUclipsr covers this. It's what I am working on now, but I use the 45 degree channels instead of the deep ones he shows in this video.

    • @ChrisMaherDIY
      @ChrisMaherDIY  2 года назад +1

      Thanks so much and That's a good question! They have the clear coating over them which I think means they can withstand a little splash here and there but they are not ip67. I'm sure some type of channel would provide enough protection to keep them up year round but being that you cant at this time combine for example 3 of these to work as one, it might look a little choppy if they are not all working in unison if that makes sense.

    • @ChrisMaherDIY
      @ChrisMaherDIY  2 года назад +1

      45 degree channel is a good idea! Have you been able to find one of those that perfectly diffuses a strip that has 60 leds per meter?!

    • @Zinic_
      @Zinic_ 2 года назад +2

      @@ChrisMaherDIY No, and I guess I should mention I am using WS2812B LED strips instead, with the IP65 option for added protection with the weather. And I picked the 30LED/M for lower power consumption. It's very noticeable to see each individual LED, but as a year-round Christmas light setup, I am not bothered at all by it. You gave me inspiration for an indoor project I want to do, and I believe the deep channels you show in this video are the best diffusers at 60+/M. However, have you looked into the silicone gel LED "neon" diffusers? There are many different types and I wonder if one of them diffusers well. I actually bought one of them to test out, but haven't yet

    • @ChrisMaherDIY
      @ChrisMaherDIY  2 года назад +2

      @@Zinic_ Ahh gotcha! Much better option for permanent displays! I've seen those silicone diffusers and I've used a couple different ones and I think they are great for certain use cases! Some of them require you to thread your own leds through the diffuser and that's not an easy process. Also if you want to make straight lines, i think its easier to use the aluminum profiles then the flexible gel diffusers. But if you need to make any type of smooth curves/turns, the gels work great for that!

  • @Brainiac5
    @Brainiac5 2 года назад +5

    Hey Chris! This looks great! Do these strips necessarily need the diffuser now that it has that layer on top of the LEDs already? Also, how do they perform as the primary light in the bedroom? Are they able to stay bright as a semi warm color? Or a color thats conducive for working?

    • @ChrisMaherDIY
      @ChrisMaherDIY  2 года назад +1

      Thanks so much for watching! If you don't care about seeing the individial led lights then you certainly don't need a diffuser. But if you want them to have that even glow, then this diffuser that I'm using in the video one is the only one I have seen that will accomplish this. As far as your primary light in a room, I'm sure it would work for some but I personally don't think I would use it as a primary light source. The whites are decent but not great. Its hard to explain but after working with the COB led strips in my undercabinet lighting video, these just don't quite compare to those as far as white level performance.

    These diffuser channels with the govee M1 vs the govee light with corners complete kit?
    I like the fact the muzata comes in 1 meter and 2 meter lengths so less joints and a seemless look but the convenience of just ordering the govee seems hard to pass.
    Which one looks better is the question?

    Awesome video thank you so much. I get a quick question I just did a LED set up and it’s over 900 LEDs. I have to inject power into certain locations. Does the system have the ability to do that many LEDs without having to inject power or can it even do that many LEDs on it?

      Thanks so much for watching! I initially thought you couldn't extend these but I just plugged in a second strip to the end of the first one and hit refresh segments and the second strip lit up and seems to be working great. Everything is being run off only the 1 power supply. I'm not sure if the app adjusts the brightness a little so that there is no noticeable drop in color reproduction but to me it still looks very bright and things seem to be working perfect. I have not tested a 3rd strip but at least for the moment, 600 leds is working great!

    Wondering if you can recommend a V-Shape diffuser for this type of strip? Thanks for the awesome video - just getting started in the LED strip world. Trying to add LED's to 2 sets of 2 stairs on opposite sides of a home theater riser that I'm building for my basement. Thanks for any help!

      Thanks so much for watching! I still have yet to find a v shape diffuser that will perfectly diffuse a strip that has 60 leds per meter like these in this video. But I would try these and see how they look: amzn.to/3MGxUGX

    I wanna put these around my room and I need at least 45 feet of LEDs, would these lights be able to connect up to that length or would it start dimming as the strip goes along? If it does dim because of the length, do you know any alternatives that would suffice? Thank you and great video 🤝

      Thanks so much for watching! Great question. So the most you can connect is 2 strips for a total of 10meters. Those would all work off one controller. But if you need something a little longer, I would recommend probably just looking into the more diy led strip options out there. Here is the short video I made on connecting two of the govee strips together if your interested. ruclips.net/video/iAa0y0-H_-g/видео.html

      @@ChrisMaherDIY thanks so much for responding! I'll definitely need to start my own project so I watched some of your tutorial videos and it all seems pretty easy (I hope). One thing tho, I still don't know about power injection and was wondering if u can explain that in a video😅 or possibly direct me to a place where I can learn more for my 15 meter project 👍

    Hey Chris, so when I cut the connection, one side is way smaller. I continued to make it worse touching two of the connections together. After a long time, I managed to fix it by stripping some white cover back. But I melted some of the sticky side to the table n broke the connection taking the tape off. I have maybe 1-2mm of space for the connection. And now have to strip a second connector to expose more copper.
    Would you just cut your loses and go to the next cutable area? My main issue is getting the solder to stick to the copper and not stick to the iron.

    • @ChrisMaherDIY
      @ChrisMaherDIY  Год назад

      Thanks so much for watching and taking the time to comment! It is for sure a small area to work with. I'm curious, what solder are you using? In my experience, the solder makes all the difference in the world and the stuff I use in this video is the best I have ever used and in my experience sticks very easily to the pads: ruclips.net/video/apSz3NXYlx8/видео.html
      I would try salvaging things or if your still in the return/exchange window, try to return it and start over fresh!

      @@ChrisMaherDIY What a nightmare. After using a new strip, everything working, it short circuited and fried the controller and the last IC chip. I was furious.
      I cut off the bad section, and spliced in a factory joint with no wire, just soldier. Was pretty simple actually. Then wrapped it in electrical tape. Then everything worked.
      This is not for the faint of heart if you have shakey hands.

    nice video
    what im curious about is what do i have to get if i want the Govee M1 to go all round the ceiling of my room which is roughly 6x4m, can i connect 5m strips on each other or is there a maximum lenght where i need new power suply and new controler even?
    i mainly want it to be static in light blue turning on with all the other stuff when i switch on the electric socket for my pc, what u guys think?

    • @ChrisMaherDIY
      @ChrisMaherDIY  2 года назад +1

      Thanks so much for watching and great question! So from playing around, you can connect 2 of these strips together in a row and have it run off one power supply. But I did try a third and it didn't work. If the math doesn't line up you will either have to get a third set or go the more diy led strip option to customize things to your space.

    Are the diffuser strips needed to get the nice glow? Could you get the same effect behind or in trim at the ceiling?

    • @ChrisMaherDIY
      @ChrisMaherDIY  2 года назад +1

      Thanks so much for watching! You certainly don't need the diffuser channel to get the nice glow and you can achieve a similar look by having the light bounce off the ceiling and hiding the led strips themselves behind something. However, the glow will be a little less concentrated if that makes sense and more spread out on the wall depending on the distance you have the light from the ceiling. Its always fun to just experiment with things until you get a look you like and then run with it!

    Does the govee strip flicker? In the comparison shot with the 30/m it looks like there's some banding/flicker in the top strip

      Thanks so much for watching! In person I have never noticed any flickering or banding. However its for sure possible that it comes across on camera differently.
