Just a note to prospective first-time pilgrims -- Listening to this channel was integral to my successful completion of the Camino last year. I was worried and stressed before I found this channel. I listened to the advice on this channel and was able to relax and enjoy my entire time. I would subscribe and go through all the videos. They are very helpful.
Thanks so much for your ongoing support Bill. It was great to journey with you and hear all your encouraging stories from the Way. I hope that you are able to make it again soon!
I walked from Porto Portugal to Santiago at the end of September to the middle of October 2022. I took a small backpack with 2 changes of clothes and something to sleep in. The Alburgues and hotels along the way ranged from $8 to about $20 per night One night I stayed at a monastery for tips. A dinner of soup, salad, and wine was included At dinner we each sang a song from our country.
THIS RIGHT HERE!!! Although I've joined a few facebook groups, I still didn't quite get the information I was looking for until I decided to go to RUclips and stumbled upon this gem. Thank you very much.
Thanks Anna! I’m glad it’s helpful. For your pilgrim passport (not really a passport, but a credencial)…you can join the Canadian Company of Pilgrims and get the official Canadian passport. You can also order the generic passport on Ivar’s forum. Or you can get it in the municipal albergue wherever you plan to start your pilgrimage.
Doing the last 120km of the Camino Portuguese central route in march ( I'm from the Pacific Northwest so the weather will be normal for me) the videos you make have been very helpful both in planning but also in confidence in my ability to do it as i am a large man who does lots of walking
Thank you for your guidance my friend. I am not exactly physically fit for this long journey, but I am determined to take on the challenge in Sept for the first time, starting from Porto as it is the shortest route, plus I only have two weeks for my entire trip. If everything goes as planned, I will be looking to do other routes in the future. I've done quite a bit of research and watch numbers of RUclips videos people shared, but this one seems to suit my plan the most, with all the contents you shared. Again, thank you so much! I will update after my trip.
thanks for the information....Planning our Camino in April 2024 arriving in Porto taking duel coastal and central combined, both of us are in 70's so looking forward to this .
@@CaminoGuide I see that. You, Nadine, Ricky and Rob are 3 of my favorites. I'm what Ricky calls an enthusiast. I've been planning my first Camino for along time now... This year's the year, shooting for October or September. Hoping to firm up plans in the next 2 or 3 weeks.

The shells can be purchased any craft shop, but lots of folks just buy them at any gift store along the Way. The passport comes from a pilgrim association. In America you can go to the American Pilgrims on the Camino website and get it for free. In other countries, search to see if you have a pilgrim association.

When are your next group leaving and from where? I need to find some courage yet, but I have that in the back of my mind. The cost in Reais is kind of heavier than a fourty liters back pack lol.
I have a church only group happening in May. But I am considering leading a group that is open to the people on the channel in mid-July. That will probably be about 9 days and will walk from Samos to Santiago! Comment here with interest. I’ll be putting a registration page together if I decide I can make it.

Definitely will depend on where you are starting and how early you get your tickets. They go up closer to date. And there is no easy way to get to St Jean. So you could get it for 100. But don’t be surprised by 300
Hi can i start from Saint Jean Pied de Port to Santiago . But i plan to take a bus from Roncasvalles to Pamplona and bus again to Burgos and bus again to Leon and bus to Sarria and from there walk 100 kilometers to gain the certificate
Hi Jeff, the albergues have always supplied paper sheets. They did provide blankets that were occasionally washed. During COVID these were eliminated. But in May 2022 I saw a lot but not all return to having blankets. In short, I will take a silk sleeping bag liner in June through August (I hate the paper sheets!) and a light sleeping bag outside of those months.
@@CaminoGuide Jeremiah, thanks so much for your experience and guidance, and the time you spent to share it. It is invaluable info for our mid-April start, and just as valuable for everyone on Camino Guide. // Jeff Gardner
I enjoy your RUclips’s on the Camino. However, as a non-American I find it difficult when you talk distances and weights without having at least a quick conversion to metric on the screen for me to see. If you’re willing to bear in mind that much of the world is metric, you may have even better audience views.
Most of my audience is American, but I have more and more international. So I’ve been trying to include conversion. But I don’t do then well on the fly (I said 32 was in the 90’s in this video…should have been 34-35). I may need to just stick with English in my speaking and do conversions on screen text. Thanks for the feedback!
@@CaminoGuide I guess it is a good thing I walked it last year. Otherwise, they would have to report 437,999! :-) All kidding aside, I can see how this can get into your blood. I just can't wait to get back. I didn't make it to Fistera last year, but will definitely do so this year.
I don’t plan to contact anyone until I have a group established to invite people to. I’m currently considering a group in Sept/Oct of 2024, but I won’t send that out until it’s solidified. I have an earlier group going in 2024 that will not be an open registration, so likely that Sept/Oct group will be the only open group next year.

You should check out the route from Le Puy. You could walk from there then switch over to Camino Norte when you get to Spain. That’s a good long walk.
Where do you start with your students?
$300 for ground transportation? Thanks for pointing that out, I did not expect it to be so much!
