You have walked it so you are in a position to comment on what you believe is the right kit, whether you carry or get your rucksack moved on is a total irrelevance, I always carry my rucksack, but that does not detract from my total respect for you walking The Camino.
Dear Crystal, I find that I resonate a lot with what you did on the Camino. Snoring and farting is not for me and neither are restrictive beds in rooms shared with others. I am rewatching all your Camino videos in preparation for mine. Thank you for sharing!
thanks! i really didnt know where to start my list. im watching tons of videos and your video sums up pretty much the must have to pack. Hopefully i will do the Camino del Norte on the end of april, so i kinda feel i am running out of time haha. thanks again
Thanks for the great tips, i'm going for my first camino next spring (march 2024). Starting from home (Ostend Belgium, so i will be walking 3/4 months Absolutely love your hat btw 🙂
Have walked 4 Camino’s, and your list seemed very complete, thank you. I would never walk without my hiking sandals for blister rescue and foot recovery.👣👟🤙🏼 I am also wondering what your backpack weighed on average? What are your plans for your next travel adventure? Am enjoying your videos, you share the highs and lows, not sugar coated. Cheers from Australia 🇦🇺
Incredibly helpful as I’m also planning El Camino in May. It’s also encouraging that you mentioned finishing in July, which is what I’m planning to do. Thank you for your thorough & thoughtful 0:16 list of essentials for solo women pilgrimage. ❤❤
We've probably met, I was on the Camino with my Mountainbike at the same time as you 😊. Let me give a little tipp: instead of shampoo buy these hard shampoo soaps, they have much less weight (65g instead of the 250ml bottle) and cannot spill out into your bagpack. And you can use them for hair, body and to wadh your clothes.
Thank you! I tried those but wasn't a fan as I have curly hair and it needs different treatment that straight hair BUT I think next time I will definitely cut down on some other items.
Crystal you are SO generous sharing your long trek packing list! I am sure others will appreciate it! So what will you & Brian be doing together in future! 💜🤗🇦🇺
Hey thanks for watching! The hat brand is Scala. Purchased at a hat store in Jackson Hole, WY. I cannot find it online anywhere…. I hired private rooms on this trek and did not wear shoes in the shower. Hope this helps 😊
Absolutely loved travelling with you. I’m curious though what was in the extra luggage? I would like to travel very light and still bring some camera gear.
Hi! How much did you pack ended up weighing? and did you ever send it ahead with one of those services? Did you bring a towel? I might have missed it in the video but I don't think I did? Thank you so much!
So helpful! Thanks! You helped me make my decision about flip flops vs hiking sandals. Through your entire trip your hat was so cute and a perfect look for the Camino.

I walked from Bilbao to Santiago de compostela and was grateful that I just once had to use a green bathroom for number 1😢.... I barried the little paper towel, but I will take a "dog poo" bag this time. It's a good idea!!! If you take your walking poles with you, take 2 extra tips with you. I could not find the once I needed on the way... the ticking sound was not nice... but it is what it is... buen camino to all!!!!❤❤❤ Ps I am bringing a sleeping bag this time, I was cold a few times (in August 😮) and didn't like the smell of some blankets... but that's personal 😅
Hi, thank you so much for sharing! I followed your journey and loved your genuine spirit the whole time! I wonder if you could share a little about the wool shirts that you brought? I guess I was always under the impression that wool was for warmth; if you could share a little how this worked for you in the warm weather, please. Thank you so much!
great question! While the long sleeve wool shirt was great for warmth and was more of a thermal layer but I have several shirts from Icebreaker that are for various types of weather. They have ones that are more for Summer and ones more for winter weather. I think this was the one I wore though It may be the cool lite - either one would work well. A bit pricey but they last A LONG time. amzn.to/3DIAqJC & amzn.to/3x3FBjn If you are in he USA you can purchase icebreaker from REI and try the item and if you do not like I you can take it back for a full refund. Not sure if we met! I was there the same time! You save a lot of weight if you use solid Bronners soap for laundry and shower gel. And solid shampoo. And also tooth paste tabs. No need to carry all the water.
Great tips, I did want to ask about your hat. I looked below, but you posted the same Tilly hat twice. If you have where you got that yours from please let me know. Thanks
SO I have had the HARDEST time finding a link for this hat because so many people want to know where to get it BUT I got it in Jackson Wyoming and I tried looking up the hat retailer but I can not find them anywhere. Hi, I did my Camino September 22 and weather was very summery. First half of September was really hot with temperature getting up to 40 Celsius. Last week only was a bit cooler. Be prepared for that. Regards
I LOVE THAT JACKET! I am so happy with it and found it to be perfect for chilly mornings. I will def bring it with me on all my hikes from now on. It has some stretch to it which I liked (very comfortable!) and I could layer easily if need be. I was a bit pricey but SO worth it.

I just saw no one ever commented back to you and not sure if you've gone on your camino or not already, but all you need is a sleep sack which is like a sleeping bag but made of sheet fabric. Sometimes its just called a sleeping bag liner. Many aubergues supply sheets but don't count on it always.
Hi. I haven't done the camino, but for my local hikes I bring a lightweight, quick dry microfiber towel. The size is smaller than the regular bath towels. If you have a Decathlon nearby, they sell it.
Hello Crystal, I have loved following your journey. I leave mid August to mid October to do a solo walk as well. You were a huge inspiration for me. Thank you for sharing. I was wondering if you can give me an estimate of the size of the passport. I am trying o buy a fanny pack that will fit my passport. Thank you for your feed back. Also, hope you are feeling better.
Hi Gorgeous Girl. So thorough and informative again. Omg...Love it! Could you answer a question that I have about the Albergues? I plan to do what you did as a sole female pilgrim and stay in a private room if possible. However I've heard that most Albergues dont accept bookings in advance. Is this true?
so happy to hear this was helpful! I used booking.com and found that I could book everything bu Orisson in advance. Next saturday I will be putting out my accommodation list and you should be able to find all of them in advance :)
The private albergues do, but the council-owned ones don't. Last summer, I booked into an albergue in Castrojeriz, but stumbled on a 'donativo' 5 kms short of my destination. I was greeted by the albergues 20th anniversary party. Free wine, free paella, free cake. Bowled over by this limitless generosity I decided to forfeit my money (15 euros) in the Castrojeriz albergue. Having already put 3 euros in the tin, and thinking of moving on, I was so amazed by generosity, I put another 5 euros in the tin and opted to stay, the albergue being a 12th Century Templar monastery in San Antón. My best Camino experience this far!
B will be back in this week’s video (Scotland!!!) And then we will be sharing more on what’s new in our lives in new adventures in a couple weeks. We are still traveling just not in the van (currently) 🙂
She didn't have an umbrella. She had a rain cover for the backpack & rain jacket for herself. You could bring a small folding umbrella, but it adds to the weight.
Yes! amzn.to/3jBiKsz I found his one to work well though I wish I could fit into Icebreakers bras because I love them but sadly my boobs are too big. Knix has some great ones too and I am going to try their's out next time.
I will offer you this…the Camino isn’t a backpacking trek. It’s a pilgrimage and about half the people send their bags ahead. There is no right way to do the camino. If I hadn’t sent my bag ahead, you wouldn’t be watching these videos. Blessed be and buen Camino!
🤷🏻♀️ the camino isnt really a “backpacking” experience as when one does the appalachian or the pacific crest trail.. the camino as in what the name implies in spanish is simply that. A walk. A pilgrimage and its about the journey getting there.. granted when i did it i only took a small 10lb backpack and shipped my other bag to santiago because i was going to egypt afterwards. Also i ended up bussing to some towns.
If I had to pack and literally carry all of on my back, I would not be able to do the Camino with my physical limitations. I believe early pilgrims used mules to pack things if they had them. Thank you for your packing tips and items you found useful.
For those who want to be allegedly “authentic” then one would need to get rid of their backpack and other high tech items and walk like the poorer pilgrims with not much at all. Ignore the negative people. Thank you, Crystal, for this wonderful series and sharing your growth with all of us. I can’t wait for mine in May! Buen Camino!
Everyone who walks the Camino seems to complete with the conviction that nobody else will ever be able to do it without their advice....Trial and error is part of the experience and 99% of it is common sense. A comfortable backpack? A water container? Give us a break. Every auberge in the early stages has a swap table in it and walking poles are the most abandoned item ....and so on. Ignore this crap and work it out for yourself. Most of us would ensure the shoes are comfortable....OK, you walked it, so did I, now please give us a break......
If the list isn’t for you, then it’s not for you. It could be helpful for someone else who’s planning the trip and comparing different advice lists to see what’s suitable for them.
You have walked it so you are in a position to comment on what you believe is the right kit, whether you carry or get your rucksack moved on is a total irrelevance, I always carry my rucksack, but that does not detract from my total respect for you walking The Camino.

So what about the van and B? It’s not vanhalla adventures without them.
B will be back in this week’s video (Scotland!!!) And then we will be sharing more on what’s new in our lives in new adventures in a couple weeks. We are still traveling just not in the van (currently) 🙂
What about a ambrella?
She didn't have an umbrella. She had a rain cover for the backpack & rain jacket for herself. You could bring a small folding umbrella, but it adds to the weight.
Just cut out 10 seconds and you can post it again called Camino packing list for males. :)
In the video you showed a sports bra that I believe was Under Armour. Do you have a link for that? Thank you.
Yes! amzn.to/3jBiKsz I found his one to work well though I wish I could fit into Icebreakers bras because I love them but sadly my boobs are too big. Knix has some great ones too and I am going to try their's out next time.
@@vanhallaadventures Thank you! I have yet to find a sports bra that doesn’t make me feel like I’m being choked. Thanks for the info!
Just curious..are we going o see you and B together soon?
Yes! In 2 weeks we will be releasing our Scotland vlog 🏴
@@vanhallaadventures awwww did you both go?? I knew that you wanted to go will be so nice if you both went!
Portable bidet! Good for cleaning your bum and when Flo comes to visit. Also, reusable menstrual pads are good to have, for at least a day or two.
I'm a retired RN....Please be aware.....pain is a WARNING.
All this heroic "pushing through"....is far from "heroic🤨
🤣 you lot from the other side of the pond...fanny bag 🤣...it has a complete different meaning here in the UK 🇬🇧
a 'shirt 'is a garment with buttons up... business men typically wear these
Pedantic
I can’t take this list seriously knowing that you had bags sent ahead to each hotel. To me that isn’t really backpacking.
True😂…i can see your point
He hecho el camino 6 veces y la mitad de las cosas sobran
podrías compartir por favor, qué cosas sobran?
Thanks!
