In the mid 1990's I flew a P-3C of the Royal Netherlands Navy to Split. Perhaps the same bird as this German Navy Orion since these are former NL P-3's. It still is a beautiful aircraft.
I sat behind the pilot on a P-3 take off at sunset from Atsugi heading to Hawaii. The lights of Tokyo went on forever until we cleared the ocean then it went dark. It was beautiful.
Beautiful take off. Reminds me of my service in the navy stationed in Brunswick Maine with patrol squadron 10. Sad they closed nas Brunswick down. Where was this filmed at, anyone know.?? Great vid anyhow. 👍
Its being replaced by the P-8 Poseidon. To be honest though, if I was spending hours above an open ocean I'd prefer 4 Turbo-props to 2 Turbo-Fans........
The P-8 will give a MUCH more comfortable and quiet ride compared to the P-3. The P-3 is loud inside, rides roughly, and generally becomes very unpleasant after several hours.
greek gov payed about 500 milion dollars for a 4-5 P3 renewal....4,5 years ago and these days the...first one arrived...does it sounds logical...about time 'n money???
Any airframe than can repeatedly punch through the outer bands and eyewalls of hurricanes is worthy of great respect. Great video.

I started work on the first P-3 and during the Cuban Missel crisis Lockeed wanted me to stay 24hs a day and sleep in the pilots lounge. Great plane.
