P-3 A, B, C FE. VP-19, VP-47, VP-30. That old girl took me all around the planet. Great reliable airplane! Many adventures! I was outside working on my truck last week and I heard those engines. Then I saw it on approach to NAS JAX. Nice to see her still working!
Flew P-3 A,B,C,&D'Souza from 1968 thur 1988. Have a lot of great memories and stories. I did tours VP 22, 31, 17, 44, also did a tour in P5M2 (seaplanes) with VP48. Hi to all I served with, that are still with us. GO NAVY!!!!

I was stationed on Misawa Air Base, Japan '84-'87, and the sound of the P-3s was background noise I heard so often. I was part of the Naval Security Group, and between the Naval Air folks and us, we kept close watch on the Soviet Navy. I miss those times, such a great experience. The Japanese were wonderful to know.

You ever time the mighty Orion took to the air, a Soviet submarine commander crapped his shorts!!!! Absolutely beautiful sound! Four mighty Allison T56-A-14 and Hamilton Standard propellers!!! Great memories!!!!!
……are its’ props’ same type as powered Lockheed Electra L188 commercial airliner? I loved flying on it. Here it had same flight duration as Boeing 727 inter-capital cities’. Wonderful aircraft!
P3's were equipped with Hamilton Standard propellers. Electra II's were equipped with Airmotive Products propellers which are the square tipped versions.

Flew P-3's for several years with VP-16 and then VP-62 out of NAS Jax. Both terrible squadrons but that was the 90's. Nice to see the venerable "War Pig" has finally been replaced with the P-8, could have used that 25 years ago...
Used to see the flying on patrols with 3 engines. Sea of Japan, phillipine sea and western Pacific. 76 we lost a man overboard during a Typhoon. P3s showed up during rescue ops. Never found him..

It’s called the MAD boom it’s an acronym for Magnetic Anomaly Detector, it detects anomaly in the surface of the water for anything metallic like a hull of underwater subs. The P3 also releases a dozen of sonobuoys, a device that floats on water with a underwater microphone, which the operator on board the Orion listen’s for the tell tale noise of any subs it’s tracking.

Its too bad that almost none of these great old birds are not in service anymore due to the P-8 Poseidon and I don't like that jet at all because its a copy of our most widely used 737 airliners all over the entire world today and we are lucky to have only a few flying around on airshows yearly.

Having grown up near NAS Moffett Field that engine howl is a very comforting sound.
What a beauty!! Nothing beats those prop birds when it comes to looks, not to mention the sound of those engines!!

I miss hearing those fly over all day. My dad still flies them!

My absolutt favorit plane wow i like the P3 Orion. when it first came too Norway i 1969 , iwatch and loved :)
No tail number! Must be an East coast thing...On the West coast we had the Bureau numbers on the tail...159329 was my favorite Bomber! Laging Honda!

The start of this video could have been right out of the 1960's or 70's with that F-4 Phantom in the background.

Only the original YP-3 prototype. All production P-3s were new build air frames that were modified from the Electra design.
Trained in VP-30 in 1882 before reporting to VP-8 in Bermuda...
