I was an engine tech in the 70's and 80's on CL-44's. Four RR Tyne 515 engines, driving 16 foot diameter props. Awesome!

This is my opinion The Transall C-160 and the C-27 Spartan is nothing but a twin prop C-130 knock off.

I really keep thinking the Germans dialogue on obtaining something like this went about so:
“ we need military equipment to have a first world military capable of projecting itself”
“We aren’t willing to spend top dollar on new military equipment from Airbus”
US: “ I got you, we’ll give you Boeings and Lockheeds from our surplus reserves, they are modern enough, besides they’re just sitting like that surplus dump of tanks we have in Sierra Army Depot”
Airbus: “we could be big too if Europeans weren’t such cheapskates...”
