  • We had an awesome day out fishing with our good friend Carson Yates from Freedom Flies Co. He took us to a beautiful brook trout stream that was vibrant with bug activity. We saw multiple hatches coming off and it made for some awesome fishing!

This looks *a lot* like the water that my brother and I fish in New Hampshire and northern Massachusetts. Many of our streams are even smaller than this. We discovered this TRICKLE of a stream in the white mountains…I’m talking 2-3’ across in areas…that is packed with brook trout. This little thing looks like it should be road runoff and somehow, every little pool has 2 or 3 little brook trout sitting in it. That’s the thing that makes brook trout fishing so fascinating. It just feels more adventurous and wild than any other type of fishing I’ve ever done.

Great video and loved getting knowledge from Carson on soft hackles. It was a timber rattlesnake BTW (Crotalus horridus), no Eastern diamondbacks left in NC except remote portions of Eastern NC.

Peyton Hale thanks for the correction, rattlesnake nonetheless haha

Good observation. Just like any snake seen in or near the water is presumed to be a water moccasin. Regardless, excellent video and fly casing technique. Keep up the good work, lads!

You boys are awesome! Tree pounder lol we always call them hickory shad! I almost stepped on a rattlesnake in the Smokies 2 years ago, it never did rattle! After that though every limb, vine and root I seen was one lol! Nice fish and thanks for taking us along, I really look forward to your videos.

Love your channel! This is one of my favorite of your videos. I love how you incorporate elements of cinematic styles and vlogs in your videos! It’s what I want to achieve with my channel eventually. Blue lining for native brookies is my favorite type of fishing. Beautiful fish and beautiful scenery. Thanks for the awesome content!

Superb video ....music - photography, freestone Appalachian Mtn Brookies......YET! .....torture fishing......I will stick to my beloved Driftless .....where a ten inch wild brookie is infinitely easier to catch than "minnow" brook trout..and I get the Southern Applalachian Trout......and beautiful elevation above 3000 ft yet ...loved the diamondback rattler!!!! Lol

The Rattlesnake was a Timber Rattlesnake, identifiable by the chevron pattern. Eastern Diamondbacks are a coastal plain species and don’t range up into the mountains. And just an FYI, you ID’d the Watersnake correctly but the “glands” on the back of the head aren’t a good indicator as most nonvenomous species will flatten their heads out in a defensive display making it look “diamond” shaped or giving it the appearance of having venom glands. Best just to do as you did, step clear and give them their rightful space. Awesome video, beautiful Brookies, looked like a great time. Good stuff. Oh, and good show knocking over that rock stack.
