First time viewer and subscriber... good information and appreciate the camera work (I don't know how y'all do it lol). Just a suggestion... maybe look at doing a muffler mod to see if it will open her up. Cut open the area where the second louver is and hammer the outlet area with the end of a round drift. This area is maybe 70% - 75% of the exhaust port. You will need to cut the gasket so it doesn't intrude into the opening. You want to get the gases to flow through the bottom of the can. On the baffle cut the center out of the solid side leaving just the bend on both sides. Make sure you use a spark arrestor. Then gently open the aluminum air deflector just a little. Should still be tolerable without ear protection but you want to wear those anyway. The fast way would be just leave the original opening and cut a circle out of the front of the muffler and take the baffle out... its loud though. But if you don't have neighbors 😎
Thanks and you are right. That was a weak mod. I don’t have that saw anymore but I did have one that needs a new crank seal but I think doing this to the muffler would be really interesting. Thanks for the comment!
Wonderful question! Not much online regarding this. I may take a deep look at the carb and get a really good idea how it works and try to come up with some reasons why they do it that way. I am thinking it has to do with emissions and limiting the amount of fuel at open high rpm’s but I’m not entirely sure.
yes sir nice one looks like it. i got one from a guy i know he used it a little i believe not sure . but it was stored for years in s shed and it was dirty dusty mostly just lot of it. fuel lines was cracked and primer to . replaced them it started run ok has a vibration when holding it not bad but worse any saw ive ran. i got still m260 proffesional but im no pro got good deal om it dads friend gave it too me . but was wondering how that one felt when running. also he put 20" craftman bar on itez one to. no chain on it. took a 20" chain off oregn bar and tried it spin it idk seems not right to me but i havent done lot saw work. always had decent one when needed to use one. dad always kept them in good shape we burnt wood back when i was growing up. havent cut firewood over 30 years now. pops is up there in age but he broke still out last week cut up on tree blew over n yard took there power out. silver maple. time i got the craftman moving a chain around he was done. lol. mine boggs little to idk ill ceck it out again leared little on carb tune watching this video thanks great video
i got old mccollec power head, shindia too their both got compression and look ok mc is big and has push button oiler im keep one and possibly send tyou other check with my cousin he needed a saw see if he got one or even want it shindia smaller and i got 2 shin weed eaters 230,231 belive friend gave me didnt run cleanded carbs running great for over year now use one for weedeater other has pole saw att on it was one piece straight shaft had rig it diffrent but works great
First time viewer and subscriber.Good reminder. Just a few minutes of running your gas out can save you lots of headaches on your next start-up. Look forward to seeing more of your show. I myself enjoy working on small engine's. Enjoyed your show.
i running stil premix got with saw over few yours old but started right up. oiler good on it to no leaks on bar oil thats first for me still leaks bar oil my pole saw att runs a tank on bar it leaks lol all ones ive own always leaked had new dewalt 60v but never run it so idk if it leaked sold it to my buddy he needed one
Thank you very much for putting this together. I have Craftsman 358.360360 model that will not stay running. Your video was really helpful. With your Idle adjustment screw all the way turned in, how much should you back it out to get the saw to run? Should the Low and High adjustment be turned out 1 1/2 turns?
Thanks for the comment and glad it helped! Those adjustment questions are a little tough to answer in a comment but I can try. A trick I use for idle speed is I back the idle screw out so it won’t idle. Then I start the saw and try to hold the rpm’s around where I believe idle would be with the throttle trigger and then start to screw in the idle screw until the rpm’s hold themselves. I will make a video doing this soon. For the low and high jet, 1.5 turns out is usually a good place to start but expect to have to make adjustments as soon and it starts and after a good warm up period. The first couple tunings on a carb may change until the piston has broken in well with the cylinder. Again, wonderful questions and I will make a video on an old saw soon doing these exact steps.
For sure. I do have a video about how the jets work but I will fix up this old craftsman soon. I will show me adjusting it for the first time and how to get it in the right direction. Thanks for the comment!

Great information! Liked and here’s a comment 👍
Thanks for watching!
love the channel
What is the purpose of that top tube and butterfly valve above the carb? Some saws have it, but many 2-cycle carbs don't.

Will it still start if it has no chain+oil in it
yes sir i hate click bait and love learning stuff i do and know about or not knowing at 50 still learning everyday

Same exact thoughts myself, I was expecting to see the chainsaw fly across the sky after being thrown and into the ground.
might be some mispelled words lol
i do my part as im ole poor hillbilly not to computer savvy but can get ya few comment, likes on the videos
Nice look at a saw. Lots of good tips. Can you show a carb adjustment on one where everything is out of place?

Take all of that crap out of the muffler and just maybe it will run like it should
Nice!
Thanks for the comment!
